subsystem targetting, a possible fix to make it attractive?

skollulfrskollulfr Member Posts: 5,407 Arc User
what if the chance to disable a subsystem increased 3.5% for every point above 100 in the target players selected sub system?
with any overflow resulting in the disable duration being extended by 1 second per % chance.

maybe a lower rate of increase starting at a lower power level?

this could be communicated in game as it being easier to overload/disable a system already being pushed beyond its limit.

just thinking of ways to make non dps'y contributions to powers intended to damage
startrek online - to seek out new life, and seduce or kill it.
heh heh

I think that something akin to the Jem'Hadar's ability to disable subsystems should be included. Adding an additional effect with something along the lines of: "Disable duration extended if _ amount of damage is sustained during disable.)

This would allow for ships with SubDis to be able to play a much more control and support role both solo and team-wise. E.G., "Fire at [ENEMY], I just hit his shields", etc etc.

More team stuff, yay. Of course, the effect should probably be able to be cleared, or else everyone would be melting in the face of a Sci/Escort combo.

I use it constantly and it works fine as-is. Not sure why you're all complaining. It disables and drains power level, pretty nice combination.

Keep in mind that Subsystem Targeting is a drain first, and subsystem offline second, and still quite proficient in the latter (with the Voth Armory Officer, Energy Weapons Officers, and LTC - level T:SS's being very adept at taking multiple subsystems offline at once).
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

I use it all the time too and its pretty reliable if you stack it with other drains at the same time. I can see why he would want to buff it though, its not really spectacular.

I think they should lower the cooldowns and upgrade it to target subsystems 2. Its like having 4 untrained ensign boff skills as it is now.

Unless you're a science officer and/or skilled in flow caps, I wouldn't complain about subsystem targeting being a weak ability.

If you just use it unskilled, then yes, you'll be disappointed.

That'd be because all Sci Ships get 4 extra Ens Tac stations for free c/o those powers. Believe me, they're not weak, they're just not going make a huge impact... look, if you flew an escort or warbird with your tactical console slots filled with ntohing but passive uni consoles, then complained about how little damage your CRF(or BO or THY) did, would that be the fault of the powers?

I second the previous poster's sentiment. You get 4 free ensign level boff abilities that actually function better for sci captains skilled in flow caps. Furthermore, the abilities are enhanced by sensor analysis (the new version in Tribble is awesome). You get 4 to 5 science console slots in sci ships which you could use to enhance said free drain, and you still complain about it?

    1) Use your science console slots for science in case you waste those on universals.

    2) Learn how something works before complaining its junk.

Subsystem targeting disable chance should be tied to sensors skill.

After all, if you cant detect their subsystems how can you hit them?

I can see a niche for it. But with escorts running EPtE and EPtS all it does is maybe prolongs battles. It is not what it was in season 2. We will use my escort as an example, I run the RMC/Aux-Weap Bat or an Aux-Eng Bat, I have the SCap on the WC, EPtS and EPtE. If I get hit with Shields or Engines I am cool if I get hit with Aux I am still fine I may fly out if my RMC is on CD. Lets not forget that with the triple team ET would take off the disable.
Hey I Used to be Captain Data, well I guess I still am in game but the account link really screwed everything up
