This is all the Excelsior Class's Fault. Or whoever made that horrible decision to release the imbalanced Excelsior Refits.

The mere existence of the superior Excelsior Refit invalidates every argument that the Galaxy-R & to a lesser extent Ambassador Class"SHOULD" suck simply because they're older.

If it were not for the Excelsior flying around dusting us, many of us would have bought that excuse.

Right now the Excelsior's are superior to not only the ship that replaced them. "Ambassador Class"... they're also superior to the ship that replaced their replacement "Galaxy Class".

That one bad move is really the root of all this crying over how bad the galaxy is. We could have accepted the logic that the Sovereign and later ships are better than the Galaxy, that makes sense, is within cannon and .. well makes freaking sense.

Like minimum wage arguments, bumping up the Excelsior to be as good as it is means that every ship above it in the pecking order should have been improved by the same amount to keep the canon in tact.

1 sentence lowdown? Can do it in 1 word, "iconic"...If youre not the type of person who cares about that its probably not the ship for you. Is it a bad ship? not in the slightest.

4 Tact console slots + a hanger+stealth+ saucer sep (Which gives around a base 16 turn rate when seperated) + Lance makes it a pretty good A2B Faw beam boat. If you're looking for a cruiser you can fly like a escort the avenger is still a better bet, and if youre looking for a more tanky cruiser the Oddy is still a better bet...but this is a good inbetween options.

Also 32 bucks+ 1 module is a pretty good deal for 4 ships (1 repeated in fleet version) and a console set

What Id like to know is why is it 5 modules if you dont purchase the ship? (As well as the atrox) *Because its a Zstore ship?...Nope so is the Ark kif/Avenger and many other Fleet ship variants

Only thing I can think of is cryptic is making more popular ships cost more because? well because they can lol...idk find it amusing and sad at the same time.

Your use of the word lumbering seems strange when talking about this ship that can "separate" and turn like a Defiant.

That's is only true If you have the saucer separation module, a lot of people don't.

I do, as I bought all the ships ages ago when new ships were few. But still the main problem is the Boff layout, ineffective for a supposed Dreadnought. I personally command a Dominion Dreadnought and that has a Commander Tac slot, that's what a Dreadnought should be packing or at least a Lt Cdr tac..

No, the Odyssey you can buy with fleet credits. The Odyssey Star Cruiser.

Ok, I did not know you could buy the 9 console version for fleet credits - though having the C-Store pack the day it came out, I've never really paid any attention.

Not really a "Fleet Ship" though is it, it may be bought with fleet credits, but "Fleet ships" have 10 consoles and the fleet material - that has neither. Still nice to know it is there, so thank you for pointing that out.
Always happy to help out with a word's true meaning.;)

I wasn't insulting anyone. You were using the N-word with the the double zeros. And I have no idea why you assume that I'm not helping others.

That's why I prefer to teach people in private PvP-matches, where they can target me, and I can explain things to them without worrying about invisible Borg torpedoes, optionals etc. I don't even need an epic tank built for that. As long they can't cycle their skills I have nothing to fear. When they start putting holes in my hull I have succeeded.

An online comic, while amusing (actually, I did find it really funny to read the last part, reminds me someone I know), is not really the best source for official word definitions. However, at least it is not Wikipedia and a step in the right direction ;)

The way you phrased one of your comments it did look like an insult to some peoples learning ability - but I suppose that is he problem with the written word, no sense feeling, so it becomes open to interpretation. Either way, no probs, sorry for the misunderstanding :) (and btw "N-word" does mean something else, not related to computers)

Help-sizing, LOL; what strange new ways ppl find to epeen. :)

Truly helpful folks usually don't go bragging about it, though. Let not your left hand know what you're right hand is doing, as the man said.

    Sometimes, helpful folks, have to shame others into helping out;

There was a cracking documentary on british Sky TV a couple of years ago, where it followed the rich and famous in Texas USA. Had me in fits of laughter at one point, the presenter asked a few of them, "What happens if a newly rich person moves to Texas and does not want to do charity work?" and the answer from them was awesome - "They'd might as well leave Texas, as we don't want them here and won't have anything to do with them".

So, sometimes, you just have to grab the bull by the horns and make people be nice :p

Ok, here's my 3rd Grade Explaination:

    I thought it looks cool.
    I thought it looks fun.

    I bought it.

    My Adult Rationalization:

Since the Avenger came out, I have thought about buying it. My adult rationlization for this: "You are an Eng flying Escorts; maybe it is time you try your hand at a ship designed for your profession." My 3rd grade rationalization is: It looks cool, and you can put a CLOAK on it!!!!! I really like the idea of putting a cloak on it. I know some say it is a gimick, but I still like it. So, the only way to do that is buy the Defiant or the Gal-X. With the new Ship Pack on sale, I could go one of three ways, as I see it:
    1. Buy the Defiant. Have cloak and another escort. 2000 zen.
    2. Buy the Gal-X. Have cloak, and a cruiser (expanding my horizons, remember!) with a hangar and (perhaps gimicky) phaser lance. 2500 zen.
    3. Buy the Gal-Pack. Have everything in #2, an extra ship skin, saucer sep, antiproton spread, and a bridge pack. On sale for 700 more zen than I'd have paid for the Gal-X alone.

So, I bought the 3 pack.

So far, I'm still learning the in-and-outs of cruiser flying, but the cloak is fun, watching the saucer dock & undock is cool, and the "shotgun" lance when undocked is very satisfying to watch shields and hulls drop more quickly when I get to fire it.

I can't say I'm disappointed. I can't say I'm ready to PvP in it yet, and know I may never be, but it's been a fun ride so far.

They didn't do the 1 thing i wanted. Make the LT cmdr a tac instead of engineering. That would of made a way better balanced ship.

But instead still stuck with basically the same boff layout even though the ensign is now universal, you still end up using a tac officer.

The hanger is nice, but still, didn't quite nail it. Also the phase lance when not in saucer sep, is still hosed.

Oh wait, the galaxy X can use a CLOAK??? what the hell is this.. ?.

Nice, the next step will be to provide all the federation escorts with a cloak. No more enemies for the federation lol.

Seriously cryptic, where did you get the idea to provide the galaxy x a cloak??

Not new, the Gal-X has ALWAYS had a cloak. Even pre-STO.

Best argument for buying it that I've seen so far. When you put it that way, it's not such a bad deal.

Me, I've been wanting the Defiant for a long time so I'd probably go that way instead if I were planning to buy the Avenger. Heck, you might have just talked me into buying an Avenger someday! :D

Yes, put your tinfoil hats away. I'm kidding.

Gal-X always had a cloak, like others are telling you. Way to be slow to the party.

No, it's not a "fleet" ship at all. And I wasn't trying to suggest it was. I believe I got the name wrong (calling a science Odyssey instead of the Star Cruiser Odyssey), but I was just saying it's the one you can buy for fleet credits. Because it's basically the free one, but no longer free.

Sorry for any confusion from my post. I was not suggesting it's a fleet Odyssey with the standard fleet bump in stats and consoles.

Please explain "third grader" - I'm english, we do not have that system :P

Please explain "english". The rest of us have been wondering for ages... :P

(j/k...I love you crazy, wonderful Brits)

A Third Grader is someone in 3rd year primary school. From there an American kid goes on to Middle school which would be the first 3 years of UK secondary school. Then High school which is the remain years of secondary schooling. Then off to college presumably or university as you would say.

Not bad. Or you could simply say "an 8 to 9 year-old child".

Oh that's easy. Look at a map, pick a country you have a 1 in 3 chance of picking a place we were overlords of :P.
That's English, someone who is Canadian, Australian, Indian, basically not a Russian or American :D.

    Third Grade LOL...

Oh this threads about the Galaxy, okay we don't have enough of them...

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.
