Rep sets, should I wait for Mk XII?

I finally hit Tier 3 on my OMEGA rep on my main and have opened up the option for the Mk XI space items. With completing these projects being a rather large time and resource investment, I'm curious if I should wait until I can run the Mk XII projects instead? I'm currently flying a Mirror Heavy Cruiser Retrofit and every so often bringing out my Dreadnought Cruiser (may switch to the fleet version when it arrives). I haven't put a lot into gearing as of yet, mostly just the free items I got from Replay, and some consoles I picked up on the Exchange. I feel I can hold my own in the content I'm currently running which I'm sure is the most important thing, but I'm mostly curious on how big a difference having the Mk XI will be over the Mk XII.

I'd wait till T5 if I was you, you get more choice as well as not wasting the resources you spend now.

Not much... but I'd say wait for MK XII so that your ship performs at maximum.
I would love to visit this star in-game...or maybe this one!
Won't SOMEONE please think of the CHILDREN?!

Yes, wait. Unless you like blowing dilithium on items you'll want to replace within a month.

I had this same question when I started the rep system. Definitely wait until you can get Mark XII equipment. Use the time you have to build up dilithium and marks.

The mk XII doesn't have a HUGE difference from the mk XI but there's really no point on wasting resources on the mk XI considering it's a small waiting period and there's also no point in getting the XI if you can get the XII.

Deflectors provide a bonus of up to +1.8 to skills. Engines have the same turn and speed rates and a slight full-impulse increase. Shields get a ~3% improvement. Prices just about double. Depends how much 'The Best' matters to you.

    A distantly related question:

Wich one is the "best" Omega set for what ship?

I mean, until now I only used the KHG set and didn't even bother with the rest. But I'm closing in on completing the rep with 3 additional characters and 2 of them already have enough marks for the one 12 set each, so I'm wondering which one would be the best for the ships.
One would be a Scimitar, one a Kumari and the third one a Zen-Sovereign (may be soon GX if the upgrade is fun).

PPl seem to love the resilient shields nowerdays... which I don't really understand, I can't remember to have ever died through bleedthrough... But well I've been away some time may be some things changed...

People like the resilient shields for the extra power it offers when hit but if you're already using something say, plasmonic leech, or you have siphon it doesn't really matter (its not compatible anyway). There are only best sets that fit your playstyle. Advanced 2 piece gives a nice boost to Torpedoes if you are running a real Torp-boat. I prefer the 2 piece Assimilated from the Omega rep plus a fleet shield (or the Advanced Covariant) to live a little longer.

I hear that a lot... but since every one seems to use the assimilated... what about the rest? Forget about it? Do they all suck?
What is the right ship or style for the Omgea set, the MACO set or the Honor Guard set?

As to the OP's original question, my fleetmates when I first joined the fleet told me to wait and save my effort until I hit Tier 5 in Rep and then start getting parts at Mk XII so that way I'd have the best of the best instead of putting in extra effort to get various levels of parts.

So far, it's been a hard road, but I've gotten some good set peices, and I have the full Adapted Maco set right now. I have most of the Borg parts, and one of the regular Maco peices right now. I'm aiming for a full set of everything.

With some earlier toons I've had, I had elected for Mk XI Rep gear. Mk XI is actually quite capable and will do the job well. It's also far cheaper than Mk XII.

However, over time, I desired to have better gear and wanted Mk XII. Sooner or later, you may have that same desire to get better versions of what you have.

Think about how much a set of Mk XI gear costs. Then add onto that the cost of full Mk XII of the same gear. That is alot of resources, alot of dil.

I say wait for Mk XII. You can get by freebie sets from the game or from the exchange (normal, non-set/rep equipment). Some free sets that are quite doable as Mk XI's until you get better stuff.

Jem'Hadar Set (can be upgraded to Mk XII from the lobi store)
    Breen / Absolute Zero Set
    Solanae Set

For newly established players with new 50's, space equipment from the exchange are more than enough. The game doesn't demand you have Rep gear. Hell, people play ESTFs in shuttles sometimes, and get the optionals. That should tell you how difficult this game is. Regular gear will hold it down for you until you hit T5 and start acquiring Rep stuff.

There is also the option of Fleet Equipment, but it can be very pricey, though immediately accessible. Until you really do your homework, I'd stay away from the Fleet Engines & Deflectors. If you get shields, let it be Elite Fleet Shields. [ResB] will cover most of high end PVE.

Side suggestion: Hold off on those expensive Fleet Equipment purchases (except Elite Fleet Shields, they're that good) until you have a better understanding of the game, when you start having a clearer picture of how to play, how to be more effective, and what you need to make your ship more effective.

Nothing is as wasteful and annoying as acquiring expensive gear, whether it be Fleet or Rep gear, and later realizing it's not what you really needed all along.

Truthfully, the difference between the two tiers is pretty small, and weighing that against the amount of extra marks you have to grind, I'm not convinced it's worth it.

    For space sets anyways.

For the ground sets, the extra grinding opens up uniform customization, IIRC. And that's worth it to me.
