Just Hit Level 50. What Fleet Ship Should I Invest In?

As the topic said, I hit level 50 last night. I was bit surprised to realize I didn't get another free ship, and then I realized I'd either have to buy one with Zen or Dil, or earn one through my Fleet.

I don't want to spend real money on a ship right now, and I'm trying to save the Dil for buying any top-tier consoles and such I might need, so I think I want to invest in a Fleet ship.

I'm a Tactical captain playing in Escorts, so that's what I want to get. Right now I'm running the Prometheus variant with the two SCI Bridge Officers. I prefer SCI officers over Engineering.

I'd also love to get 5 tactical slots if possible.

What fleet ships should I be looking at?

Thanks. :)

You could get the Fleet version (fleet advanced escort) of what you're using now. The other escort with 5 tac consoles is the Defiant (fleet tactical escort retrofit).

Other than that, you're looking at 4 console escorts.

Which, depends on which you prefer. Defiant is more maneuverable, but also more fragile. The Prometheus you get access to higher science abilities, and can take more of a beating.

If you're going with pure damage, use the Fleet Defiant.

Thanks. Would both of these give me access to quad cannons? And if it's only the Defiant, are those weapons fused to the ship?

ONLY the c-store Defiant (the level 30 one) has the quad cannons. no they are not fused to the ship, but they are useless anyway

None. You should get a JHAS.

I'm guessing he doesn't have an ungodly f***load of cash so... nope.

We are talking 800 mil EC IF you can even find one.

They're easy to find. And a lot cheaper than getting a starbase to T5.

Not for long... they are insanely expensive and downright over-rated. The steam-runner has nearly identical stats for a mere fraction of the cost.

They're really cheap, and only require EC grinding, the easiest grind in the entire game.

And it's the most powerful escort type ship in the game. The OP seems to want to fly an escort type ship. So the OP should skip all the disappointing nonsense that fleet ships will be and just get the best lockbox ship available in the style of ship they want. That's the JHAS.

How "easy" is it to get the amounts needed? you are acting like it is easy, you're crazy if you think it is easy to get your hands on one of them.

    Farming ECs is really easy.
you're crazy if you think it is easy to get your hands on one of them.

There's a marketplace and a channel for it. Just do the farming. And make the contact. It requires so much less work than the starbase system.

In case you aren't trolling: he's talking about getting FLEET MODULES, not grinding a whole starbase.

In case you are trolling: You're a complete moron. 400 mil EC isn't that easy to come by... I frigging own a JHAS, and it wasn't "simple" to acquire. Please don't fill newbies heads with your TRIBBLE.

    /sigh

So then how's he get the fleet ship? Or is he already in a T5 Fleet?

If not, he's going to have to grind something after he gets the modules. Because even if a T5 Fleet just lets him into their base, he needs the fleet credits. Though don't most Fleets "Sell" access? Which again means he needs to grind a resource for THAT transaction.

His post says he JUST hit level 50. So I'm just guessing but it didn't seem like he has a ready made free access to any fleet ship out there. So if he's just going to pick up some modules, he's still got a grind ahead of him.

Since he has to pick a grind, I offer the grind that has the least amount of time gates. And the best ship in the class he's after.
400 mil EC isn't that easy to come by...

It's the easiest resource in the game to acquire. It takes some time and dedication, but so does everything else. And it's really just one simple and straight grind. It involves zero dilithium. Zero common engineering DOFFs. Zero Industrial Replicators. Zero Lobi. Zero Marks. Zero Cybernetic Implants.

    Just easy peasy ECs.

The way I see it, go with what most closely matches the ship you're most comfortable in. That doesn't necessarily mean grab up the fleet version of your current ship. Over time, players get used to a certain setup. Their hands begin to automatically go to certain keys for certain abilities. Take a moment and run a mission in your current ship, and pay attention to how your hands move. Do the go right to a certain sequmce of keys when you start a battle? Do they seem to know exactly where all of your abilities are and when to hit them? If so, you're already used to a certain layout, and should stick to that as closely as possible. If there is no fleet version or vice admiral version of your ship, get the next closest thing if you really need to upgrade. Or stick with what you have and try and make it work.

Easy enough to join a fleet temporarily to get access to a fleet ship, jump on NoP Public Service channel someone is usually willing to help, BYOFM of course.
If it were me I'd go with Fleet Avenger, you really can't go wrong with it.

    Hello, everyone.

Thanks for all the replies. Lots to think about. I wanted to clear up a few things that may/may not limit the choices of ship I have available.

    1) Even if it's technically the most powerful/best stat'd escort-type, I'm not interested in a Jem'Hadar vessel at this time. I've yet to start heavily roleplaying, and not sure I will in this game, but flying a JH vessel as a Starfleet Captain just feels ... wrong. There's already plenty I do in this game that doesn't feel like Starfleet ("Here's something new...let's blow it up!" :P ), and that just personally feels a bit too far.

Or maybe I'm still emotional about the Dominion War. :P

    2) I've got a free account, with the 10 million EC limit. Unless I pay for subscriber access long enough to gather up 400 million EC, the JH vessel mentioned is out of my range, anyway. I don't have the money to afford a paid account right now, so that's not really doable unless there's a way to gather up that much money with a free account.

    3) I'm a member of the Paragon Expeditionary Fleet. I just checked and we're at Tier 4 on the Starbase and everything in it. I would consider at least temporarily joining a Tier 5 Fleet if I had to, but we might hit Tier 5 on PEF soon...

    4) I'm used to playing with cannons, and I've finally gotten good at it. (Really, the only thing that can insta-kill me is Borg if I'm careless, and Mogai Heavy Warbirds, because they exist to suck the fun out of life.) I'd prefer to keep using cannons but it's not a deal breaker if I can't. I've got enough points to retrain my TAC minions.

So I'm thinking my choices are between a Fleet Prometheus (I have the non-fleet one now) or a Fleet Avenger. The Avenger, I think, would be a bit different style of play, which might be interesting. I've already had the Fl. Avenger rec'd to me before. It seems to be a pretty cool ship.

Thoughts? Thanks again for the help.

I sort of skimmed the trolling section of the thread, so I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but... can I direct y'alls attention to the Fleet Patrol Escort?

Requires Tier 0 shipyard, only 4 FSM, looks kickass and it has an Ensign uni.

There's also the Fleet Escort Retrofit (T2 escort + Fleet T5), which is delicious fun to zip around in as a fawboat.

There's also the FAE if you're attached to the Prometheus and its LtC science station.

As for the 10m EC limit, grind D, convert it to Z and buy the EC limit unlock and the account bank. You will not regret it.

If you plan to get a fleet ship you will need fleet ship modules. Since you are free to play, have you already converted dilithium to zen so you can use 500 to buy the higher EC cap? If not, you should do that first.

Also, the mirror ships can be bought under REWARD PACKS on exchange for around 100,000 credits...they are good enough for now. Try a mirror patrol escort.

You could always get Andorian escort buy the tac variant and get 5 Tac slots, 10 console slots, and 5 forward weapons.. But as others have said Fleet defiant and Adv escort are both great fed fleet escorts. either way unless you own the c-store varient already you are looking a around 2500 zen

the prommie eh, make sure to get the z-store version and a fleet module then ask around for i think its a t4 shipyard access to get the t4 (you may need to build up fleet credits if your not in a fleet, thats why i have a dummy fleet to dump all that stuff into for fc), you are more then likely to need 20k in order to pay into a fleets project to pay off the fleet provision you need to get such a ship, if your already in a fleet and have the provision but not high enough level stuff in fleet then one of your fleets provision will be used up to get your ship.

if you dont pay money you can either build up dil on a gate for weeks to get the 4 or 5 fleet modules there or wait for the prommie get it account unlocked and another 500 on top of this for the fleet module in zen conversion for the z store stuff, plus any additional you may need. i think for more value you should go for the latter then the former.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

I'm tac captain, own the Galaxy-X, Defiant, Prometheus, Atrox, C-store Avenger, now the Fleet Avenger, and it's by far my favourite ship so far - prior to that would have been the Defiant. I may or may not spring for the Fleet Defiant and/or the Fleet Dreadnought, but the Avenger seems to be so multipurpose and bad-TRIBBLE throughout I'll probably stick with it for quite a while.
