Do you sell all your equipment in the old ship and discharge it?

no...but throughout OB I have to admit that I couldn't see a point to not doing so...it's not as though your lower tier ship is in any way suitable for coping with the hazards of the tier 2+ galaxy?

From other threads I've read I've gotten the impression that you can buy more than one ship at each tier. The first one you get is free but the second+ costs big money (10's of thousands)...

I guess if you gut the lower tier ship you can recoup quite a few thousand from decent Mk 2 gear.

Word. Gut and trash (unless some of the equipment is better than your new ship's gear). Your new ship doesn't come with consoles or devices, so transfer those.

Sell? No. The gear I have in my ship is usually better than the TRIBBLE the new ship was fitted with. I do gut the old ship though. I haven't discharged my starter ship yet though.

I just keep all my ships so if I ever feel like flying a certain class, i can do so. Think of them as sentimental if you will, always fun to go back and play old stuff.

What I did when I got my next ship was....

I upgraded the T2 ship with items from my T1 ship that were better than what comes on the the T2. Then through missions, if I replaced anything on the T2 with something better, I held onto it to see if it could be used on my T1. If not, I would sell it. I'd probably never use the T1 again, but I just couldn't get rid of it. I like to keep everything I can.

When I upgraded from T2 to T3 I gutted the T3 ship and sold the stuff, flew to the Starbase supplying the T5+ stuff, and bought upgraded equipment for my T2.

Hi, I can't discharge any ships. I type the name and the okay box stays greyed. Anyone know why?

If the ship is set as your primary ship that might be the problem. If it is your only ship that is also the problem.

A Reverse Load Out, Hmm, Does that make the T2 stronger and more maneuverable than the T3 would be??

I've held on to all my ships at RA5, though my character is strictly an escort captain (specced that way).

But because the ship cap is so low (is it really 8?), I might discharge my T2 & T3 ships. T1 is currently unobtainable any other way and T4 is actually still combat viable. I have both T5 escort variants, but only specced for one, so the other is more or less just "for fun."

When I was leveling up, I usually gutted the old ship since my current equipment was better than the default equipment on the new ship (you can get a lot of use from those "rare" mission rewards).

8 is low? How many ships do you need? :p

I have one ship for each of the first 4 tiers, two escort ships for tier 5, and the runabout for a total of 7. Unless they start coming out with new ships I think eight is a big enough number for now.

Well, there's the rumors (or the hope) of T5.5 ships in Season 2, e.g. refitted Galaxy, Defiant, Intrepid classes. And then purchasable ships like the TOS Enterprise and now Galaxy-X. I guess I'm just too sentimental, I wanna hold on to all my ships. :o

And I too have a Runabout taking up a precious ship slot... :D

    I dump them.

I have only kept my Intrepid (I can't bring myself to part with it).

You can own a good number of ships, as it stands now i have four.

They may cost, but new and different ships can be fun, and when you hit RA 5 money comes rather quickly.

As for gear, i would strip it out and sell what you no longer need.

Each level brings new and better gear. A few cred in the bankk will go a long way to that new phaser you want.

In the end it is up to you. If you loved your old ship you`ll keep it around.

Me.. I`m just waiting to upgrade my Interpid and it will be my daily flyer again.

:)I always gut my lower-level ships, because I always find that what they put into each new ship that you get for free, or buy, is just plain crud, compared to what my last ship had! I only have three Federation Lt.Cmndr.1's at the moment, but, I am keeping, not only the free TOS Enterprise I got, because I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition, but all of the free ships I will get from each Ship Tier!

If you ever want to play at a lower level with a friend it's best to keep your old ship and leave it equipped with appropriate level gear. I tried playing with a friend using the squad system and it did not adequately decrease the damage of my Fleet Escort with MK X gear. On Elite mode I was still blowing through enemies in about 2 seconds, even though I was "fighting at Lieutenant 7".

It seems like the squad system only downgrades your skills and does nothing for your gear (or inadequately). If I squaded down with correct level equipment it seemed to be closer to correct (DPS showing on my weapons was about right).

"Ok so i got my T2 ship but but i forgot to check the variants. Is it possible to discharge and be able to get a varriant for free since i discharged the first/only ship of the rank i owned or is the 'free ship' exclusive to a one time one coupon for rank achievements-reward?"

Out of respect for your skills as a necromancer I will answer your question.

You are only ever granted one free ship at each tier. Once you select your free ship at level 10, 20, 30, and 40 that is the only free ship of that tier that you will receive. If you discharge your Tier 2 ship you will not be able to select a different Tier 2 ship for free, you just won't have a Tier 2 ship. Additional tier 2 ships will cost you 15k dilithium to obtain.

So unfortunately, if you chose a cruiser at level 10 and you meant to select an escort, you are SOL. However, just deal with it. All of the tier 2 ships are at least useable, and the time it takes to get from level 10 to 20 is fairly minimal. Particularly if you start aggressively doing Doff assignments at level 11.

In endgame you reach a point where you have:
Ships that never get used that have too few weapon, boff, console slots
Lots of fancy consoles and weapons that you will want to use
Can easily make EC and dil to buy fleet modules to get the fleet versions of lower tier ships.

In under a year cryptic have given away a carrier, cruiser, breen thing and science destroyer, quite a lot of free lobi, cstore and zen discounts, plus mirror ships that are fairly cheap on the exchange. And if you buy cstore ships they become available to your other eligible characters. Too few low end ships is not a complaint players have about their lvl 50 characters.
