Ok .... We are being teased that a Federation Fleet Dreadnought may actually be about to be announced and released.
When someone asked about it in a thread on Facebook .... the STO response was as follows ...
... Star Trek Online --- Hmmmm I think you will want to check back here on FB later today.
That said, what do you think a fleet dreadnought will look like? ... What do you think it SHOULD look like with regards to stats?
I'm thinking it needs a better tac boff layout different from the current one ... thoughts?

So yeah, not exited about a fleet version of this.
A c store version, brought up the recent power creep standards, yep i can get behind that. A lame fleet upgrade? nope....
Its already in the c-store... That would be really bad business move. Also its not too UN-plausible that they will add a hanger to both, and give the fleet version a different boff and console layout.
Unlikely but possible.
3-PACK SHIP really unlikely unless its a 3-pack of venture and galaxy retrofit and dread...
They have updated the romulan tactical escort with a hanger bay so updating a c-store ship with something similar not too out of question, though they would never give the c-store version 5 for weapons and 3 aft, becuase adding a slot is easy removing then adding another could destroy peoples items...
@reyan01 Not really likely to happen as it was already released in the c-store.. In fact i would be bold enough to say there won't be a 10 console dread gal-x in the c-store. For a great number of reasons. One people who own the current c-store ship will feel ripped off, it doesn't follow any of their previous patterns as far as c-store/fleet ships.
Yes. well, sorry to break this to you but...
The Excelsior and Nebula and Ambassador have 2 C store variants. One a t3 ship no-one sane buys, and one at Admiral levels.
There are the 2 version for t2 and t3 escorts.
The Akira alone has 2 upgrades (thats where the point defense phaser and torpedo consoles come from)
All Romulan ships have 2 versions.
Then there is the general 3 pack thing, where they sell the same 3 (9) ships with a minor stat variation.
So its nothing new for cryptic to be selling variants of the same thing. heck, they do that with fleet ships too. They do sell those. And they are almost exact copys of ships already there. So i fail to see where selling yet another Galaxy X is a bad business move. On the contrary:
Making it an entirely new ship will give them the ability to do the following:
- Add a fleet version of the existing G with minor changes. So all players who preach how incredibly happy they are top have the GX sitting in their shipyard can be happy with that.
- Create a new Galaxy variant, with yet another awesome skin and a up to date specs. Heck, they can go an extra mile and add several additional monetizing opportunities by also making the lance weapon exchangeable with other energy type lances. You get the Phaser lance for free, but could buy an AP one too if you prefer that...
- Opens the road for bringing all other ships left behind also up to spec. I know people would love to whip out their D'kyr again... but don't because it simply offers less than other ships.
There is a whole range of ships they can just upgrade and resell again.
- no one is being ripped off if they add a better GX to the c-store. Ripping you off would mean they do something to the GX that already exists and make it worse or something. The only thing they will do with her is perhaps enhance her a bit.
If you argue that the GX becomes obsolete by adding a Better one i have to say this: It already became obsolete when the excelsior turned out to be monster. The Regent, Avenger and odyssey certainly did nothing to make the GX less obsolete.... not to mention that a standard assault cruiser already was better.
The Gx's supposed gimmick was its lance, well the lance is ****. It was **** back then, it is even more now and there is no reason NOT to sell a souped up to power creep specs GX now.
For everyone saying NAY here, there are 50 wallets waiting to slap your opinion in the face.
+ we have the bug ships, the scimi and romulans in general: Whatever delusions about balance and business practices you ever had should have gotten shattered a long while ago.
Btw:
Mirror universe emperors klingon super neghvar must be next. Because THATS what being a pompous emperor is all about.
Ok you do realize, there is huge difference between a T3 ship and a T5 ship having another variant within the store at the same time...
Fleet dread yes , another c-store ship no at least not end game one. If they made a captain level variant I wouldn't give a cow about that.
So yes there is a clear difference with what y'all are suggesting.
They are selling 3 packs. Of the same ship. That is exactly the same ship but with different stats. Just in a different wrapping.
I seriously do not know why you try to make that sort of argument. Multiples of ships are already here. Have been for a long time.
And again, you have failed to explain why it is a bad business move.
(feel free to prove me wrong Cryptic. I'd be delighted to be wrong.)
A 3-pack is a pack of similar ships yes but different console layouts, and all released at the same time.
A person buys the old c-store ship, weeks before they release the new one. Then a new ship comes out with a console and boff setup you like better. Already having spent what you had available you would lose confidence in making any future purchases in sto. Due to the lack of consistency, at least with a fleet ship you would get a discount, after buying said c-store ship.
But why are people making the argument that cryptic can't change the boff layout more when it becomes a fleet ship ? But yet yes to a 3-pack of a already, end game c-store ship which they have never done before.
I also hope they never do such a move becuase that just shows me how they know engineering abilities for the most part need changing + adding but that they refuse to invest development time to fixing these issues with in the game..
