On an escort such as the fleet defiant, when running 3 DHC's and 1 DBB up front...
Do people keep the DBB on autofire? or do you keep it completely out of your normal autoattack cycle so you KNOW it will be ready for use the second you hit Beam Overload?
I had been flying with all weapons bound to fire when I hit spacebar. But was noticing alot of times my DBB would be on delay or firing when I hit Beam Overload, so the BO wouldnt be ready to go off till I passed the target.
I have a spacebar bind to fire all energy weapons + have everything except the DBB on autofire, and the DBB itself is manual activation right after BO3. Then you can for example pop a weps battery and slam your head on spacebar to make everything pew...

you can have it on auto fire. just when ready to fire that bo, stop shooting all weps. load up the bo, que buffs, then hit your intended target. that way all the first shots fired at 125 wep power.
in 1v1 tho, some people dont let the dbb fire at all till they charged up bo and let it hit. if people buff watch they try to stay out of the bo arc.
If you're running all energy there's really no reason to have autofire except to kill someone in kerrat while resetting. Otherwise it lags out skills while trying to use them. STO only lets 1 skill be used at a time and weapons count as skills. It can also get you in trouble with things like AA and the voth shield thing.
EDIT: Another thing. I don't think one can separate firing energy weapons so the DBB will fire when you fire your cannons.

I look at it the opposite way.
Outside of maybe decloak alpha strikers who can choose when to strike and have cloak advantage - can you really guarantee or even feel confident that you will be able to activate your weapons tray on perfect firing sequence every single time?
This goes beyond just smashing spacebar when it's time to fire.
Becaue smashing spacebar when it's time to fire is just a bad version of auto-fire (and you could end up interrupting your own firing sequence).
For myself, there is little to no downside keeping auto-fire on during Arena matches.
There are way too many things going on, and other timings to worry about than manually trying to start your firing sequence every X amount of seconds.
For 3x DHC + 1 DBB, I usually keep the DBB on autofire, with the DBB in the leftmost fore slot.
> Activate BO in a very tight window before you want to fire.
> Restart your firing sequence so it starts with the DBB (firing sequences start at leftmost fore slot).
I keep it on autofire. I rather have it do damage the 95% of time I'm not using BO. I also run it in the left-most slot, and try to buff weapon power before using the BO.

I guess it's just personal preference and setup then. I tend to only bind EPtX and the rest I use manually. For me, at least, when I have my weapons on auto fire, it can become almost impossible to manually fire my DBB/torpedo, or even get a TT off when I need it.

There's certainly a lot of issue with inputting commands and input lag, the only thing that I find tends to interfere with my inputs is distribute shields being on a repeatedly used bind.
I used to bind this to WASD for example, but I've removed it from there due to the issues it caused (which has seemingly gotten worse over time, but that could just be perception).

The overall confidence in manual activations of pretty much anything has diminished so far this year for me...meh. Torps pretty much went on autofire, oddly enough I'm better off with just the potential random HY/TS grabbing the wrong thing than I am having the whole thing thrown off because because of multiple manual activations not going off...don't want to find myself caught in the distraction of trying to figure out why something didn't happen or get caught up trying to make something happen in the midst of combat when that time has come and gone with my attention being required elsewhere...
I've stopped using beam overload on my escorts: extreme power drain makes you inert for several seconds and when it fails... rage on how ship's targeting systems are so crappy
Opted for TS/HY. Much better with them, a torp at the good moment can be deadly without breaking weapon power
Is there really any benefit from using autofire, is is it because just tapping the spacebar is too tedious? I never have used autofire, nor do I plan to unless there a VERY GOOD reason to use it.
