The only real problem I find myself having with it going to the lobi store is simply the cost (yes I know read a bit further and I will explain)

Ok so here's pretty much my situation I did the grind and got the ship on my 9+ characters now I really want to have all the goodies for these ships so lets break down the cost a bit.

not 100% on the numbers but

    1 ship : 2500 zen / around $25 I believe
    3 ship pack : 5000 zen around $50
    9 ship pack : 10,000 zen around $100

ok now lets say I have the ships I already have the reward one so I have the deflector and such for the full set on those 9+ toon's now lets say it has been awhile and I want to make a new character for whatever reason, ok so I'm outta character slots.

    4 character slots : 1065 zen - around $10.65
    2 character slots : 625 zen - around $6.25

now lets say I want to get the full ship on one of these new characters, nice I already bought the package for the ships however in order for one of these characters to get the full set items I need that base event rep reward ship, now unless I am mistaken that means that other than waiting until the next anniversary event and re-grinding the qmendations I will need to purchase the ship with lobi.

600 lobi - (worst case scenario 4 lobi per box 150 boxs, 125 zen per key = 18,750 zen or around $187.50 which is interestingly almost double the 9 ship pack cost.

So unless I am mistaken which is entirely possible for a new character if you were to purchase slots, lets say the 4 slot version since its the better deal you would be looking at.

1065 zen + worse case scenario 18,750 zen = 19,815 zen / $198.15 (2,575,950 dilithium at 130 per zen 322 ish days at 8000 refining on one character.)

so you could easily break the $200 mark if you decided to unlock a special race for 500 zen / $5.

Now granted that would be absolutely horrendous luck on the box's and ignoring any sales and other events and such but it seems a bit excessive in any case. At least unlock it account wide for people who did the grind.

I think what they are doing is right.

They got players to play daily for the Free ship and some money from the players wishing to expand it's capabilities.

Without having to have access to a T5 Fleet!!!!

Putting the ship in the Lobi Store is them just being nice as they could have made all those not wishing to grind wait until next year like they did with the Chel Gret.

Repectfully, I think the above entirely missing the point.

When you bought the Scimitar 3 pack, you got all the special consoles that came with the ship.
Same with every other 3 pack, Oddy, Vesta, Kumari, Bortasqu.

Same with any other C-store ship, you got the whole ship.

Not in this case...and yes, they got people to grind for the "free" ship, then pay but hopefully not as many as they wanted.

Aside from the point of the 3 ships being so similar in appearance its hard to justify it even being a 3 pack...let alone, lets make 3 3 packs....its a change up from what has gone on before.

I have a perfect example. I had a membership to 24 hour fitness that allowed me access to all their gyms but the "Super Sport"...basically the most upgraded ones. That arrangement gave me 2 gyms in my city and one very close to my house. Then one day, they closed the nearby gym and "upgraded" (although it looks pretty much the same to me) the other gym to a "Super Sport". They offered to upgrade my membership for double what I was paying currently so I could go to the one further away.

I cancelled the membership for getting less service, with greater consumption of my time and money.

    Sound familiar?

And that we were explicitally told that the grindaversary would be the only way to obtain the fourth part of the sets. And now once people have been conned into the 15 day grind for a 9 console ship, Cryptic change their mind and try to pretend it was the plan all along.

Cryptic were warned about this sort of problem weeks ago, in the 1000+ post thread on the subject.

The thread that was utterly ignored by Cryptic.

If Cryptic were to start paying heed to the warning voices on the fora, then this sort of thing wouldn't keep happening.

So would you really rather have paid 600 lobi/character for the ship now instead of the couple of minutes a day per character you spent doing the mission for 15 out of 27 days its available? I really doubt it but hey if you have $150 to blow or $300 million EC on keys it might be a bargain to you instead of about 60 minutes of cumulative anniversary play time.

You make valid points about the anniversary events previously being a once and done deal but that ship sailed along time ago. The value they provided for the time required to get this ship is clearly worth it in terms of the games overall economy. The personal value you place on it may differ but when compared to other things in game it's priced right.

Clearly it was better to do the anniversary event to get these ships but I don't feel bad for those who chose to ignore the event only to complain now. Many are the same people who complained in that 1000 post thread and swore not to do the event but now want the ship for nothing while others did the grind to get it.

I'm seeing a lot of 'coulda, shoulda, woulda' posts.

No-one's forcing you to play. No-one says you have to have them. Don't like it, walk away.

Even better idea, since you (and the other whiners) are CLEARLY so much better at running a games company and especially an MMO, then why aren't you?

Any mewling toddler can whine about how they want things their way, but the nearest they ever seem to get is working at BK.

There's complaints, and then there's just being a whiny baby. You don't like their business decisions (and that's what it is) then fine, DON'T PATRONISE THE COMPANY. But I for one am getting a bit tired of you constantly complaining that they're not running their business in the way you want it run.

Agreed, the best answer a customer can give is to walk with their feet. When I get bad service at a restaurant, I just don't go back. However, I love star trek and like this game but the current avenue of expense and useless effort takes the fun out of it.

Bottom line is, I don't want to walk, but will under the current trend. Any customer has a right to voice such an opinion and any company has the right to run their business as they see fit.

If people didnt care about the game so much, they would not be as loud. Its when the the talking stops that the problem for the company truly begins.

It's not really whether or not one part of this is a good deal, its about players getting to make informed choices.

Those choices are predicated on what Cryptic say.

And what Cryptic say has, on this issue, changed.

The thing is, the reason for the change is pretty obvious.

Other thing is, it was pretty obvious weeks ago and people tried to tell cryptic.

The whole conception of the anniversary this year was deeply flawed.

And when Borticus comes onto this thread and insults everyones intelligence by suggesting that there has been no change at all, when we can merely follow a link on these fora and see the orginal dev blog for ourselves, it doesn't make me sanguine about the chances of anyone at Cryptic figuring out what went wrong.

I just had a thought. Adding the anniversary dyson ship to the lobi store is REALLY going to TRIBBLE players over in regards to the secondary deflector and warp core.

How so? Because of THIS (February 13 patch notes) http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1019981
    General: Reclaim Tab:

.......captains can now reclaim: All unique weapons, items, and consoles on lockbox/lobi/special event ships from the dilithium store........

These are not new items and cannot be obtained without owning the associated ship.

The items will not be visible in the store unless the captain owns the associated ship and the item is not in your personal inventory.

Know what this means? This means that if you purchase the dyson ship from the lobi store just to get the secondary deflector and warp core for your c-store dyson ship(s), you can NOT discharge the lobi ship EVER without running the risk that if for any reason you no longer have 1 or both of these items, you will have to purchase another dyson ship from the lobi store to replace them. It also means that you are stuck with a ship you don't want/need taking up a ship slot.

Unless Cryptic makes it so the secondary deflector and warp core are permanently unlocked in the reclaim tab of the dilithium store to be reclaimed if you no longer have 1 or both, players will be royally screwed over if they ever discarded 1 by mistake or the game bugged out and deleted it. (Permanently unlocked after purchasing the ship from the lobi store that is.)

My problem is that the way they've handled the entire event smacks of "how much can we bleed the players?"

If they had handled it the way the 3rd Anniversary and the Obelisk were handled, I wouldn't be annoyed. They could have even changed it up a bit, maybe.

    Two options:

Complete the mission the first time, and you get the ship. The Warp Core / Secondary deflector are choosable rewards for re-running Step Between Stars, along with the Deflector, Impulse Engine and Shield. This is how the 3rd Anniversary and the Obelisk Featured Episode worked.

Or alternatively, you run the featured episode three times, and along with the three suits (and ship parts you can choose), you get "item", and for 3 "items" turned into Starfleet / KDF / Republic, you get access to a prototype ship (which would make the most sense from a storytelling perspective).

From a storytelling point of view, this event is completely wacked-- I mean, seriously... Q is handing out Federation starships? That's just bonkers. That's enough to make Sisko punch someone.

And THEN make the Advanced versions either "Fleet" or C-store. But the anniversary should be about rewarding the players who've been with the game for years, not about seeing how much cash you can TRIBBLE out of them.

A cogent and well written response to the grindaversary that will be instantly ignored by Cryptic.

I would have had no problem is this whole grindaversary system had been plomked onto a new slot, the putative spring or autumn events.

Indeed, I may even have welcomed it. Although the miniQ game was just lazy.

However, putting this type of event on the anniversary slot was a huge error in my view.

I looked forward to the anniversary event, coming as it did after the winter grind.

It was a refreshing change of pace and, dare I say it, a time to take stock of the game and feel good.

What was done to the anniversary this year was just a slap in the face to those of us who looked at the event that way.

Player appreciation seems to have been discarded in favour of a total reliance of metrics.

It seems now, from hints and suggestions, that the metrics are starting to come in and they're just as the nay-sayers predicted.

Far from attracting people to sit at the game and spend money, this model has the opposite effect on a number of people.

I know that, for me, until Cryptic signal clearly that they have recopgnised the issue I'll not be spending a dime on the game.

Doubt I'm a majority, but there'll be others.

Cryptic need to take a good, long, hard look at the grindaversary.

Obviously the metrics must be looked at, but they need to find a way to fold in written opinion to the mix. And not just the stuff from people who like things, but the critical stuff as well.

Because the problems with the grindaversary were posted on these fora, in many cases, before the event went live.

    The nay-sayers predicted the metrics.

This happens a lot more often than Cryptic appear willing to admit. Time for someone there to stop ignoring the nay-sayers and see them for what they really are......canaries in the mine.

I'd like to make a suggestion that I think could improve the game. CaptainSmirk could you pass along to the new Ep (I think his name is Stephen :o I forgot though) if theres any possibility of making the next Anniversary missions more like the 2nd year one for the Odyssey/Bortasqu' mission, or even like the one for the Ambassador/Kamerag where you got the ships after playing their respective missions the 1st time. Those missions didn't wear me out as much on multiple toons and they didn't feel like a grind. And if you want to keep the Qmendation hunt make it for the Consoles of a ship but not for the ship itself

With the recent anniversary mission I had to give up on a few of my toons, getting the ship because it just got a bit too boring after a while.

Anyway that's my 2 cents. Just trying to offer some constructive opinions. Wish you the best with your new position.

We all feel like this. Unfortunately, the can't monetise it using that method, so that's why they suggested we hang on to any additional Qmendations - because they'll probably be used next year (if there is a 5th Anniversary).

So, I've been following the thread here and I have a question. I've been doing the daily events for my two characters and have the Dyson ship for two factions. I realized too late that I had another character slot. Made a Rommy char and ground him up high enough to do the anniversary dailies. Unfortunately, it happened too late to have enough qmendations for the Romulan ship. I do have that mission slotted on the character and have applied a small number of qmendations to the total. Does anyone know for sure if that mission will stay slotted indefinitely? Like if say next year they use qmendations, I can still get the Dyson Romulan ship from this year?

    Thanks.

Can't answer for certain, but i wouldn't bet against it.

This winter event allowed people to get the ship from the year before.

It was a fairly popular option as well.

As Cryptic have already said they'll be usng qmmendations again, it would seem possible, if not likely, you'll be able to finish off your project.

Also, iirc, you have a window in which to buy lobi boxes to make up the difference.

If you have the lobi to spare, you might want to consider that.

That's the problem. I have no Lobi, and if I understand correctly, the keys will cost me like $100 to get it. That's not going to happen. Not for a third tier character. LOL Wish I could use the extra qmendations I have on my other characters, but it shows character bound. Oh well. I guess I just have to hope I'll be able to get it later.

    Thanks.

The keys for lock boxes only cost you a couple million EC. Don't spend money, and if you're high enough to do it, do the Event mission. It gets you much more Qmendations to use/spend, and if you don't already have ARC, get it just to get the free 20 lobi.

    Hey Something

Yes the project will stay slotted and next year you'll be able to claim it with additional Qmendations.

For example I still have that last Crystalline Event project on (from last fall?) and it is still available. I'm not cancelling it just in case the event comes back and I can add the few shards I need to get the DOff reward.

    Cheers

I did the event mission, and the Q dailies since I leveled the character enough to get them. IIRC I have 520 qmendations now. I did sign up for ARC, but I just got was the Khan uniform. Guess there is something else I need to do to get the Lobi. Master Keys on the exchange are like 2mil EC each. I don't have nearly enough for even one at this point.

Oh well. I might not be able to get the third ship. At least I got the other two.

Sure we can. Cryptic could make every item in the game free and someone would complain about that too. You greatly underestimate the ability of people to complain!

Are you meaning Qmmendations from Party Patrol or Glossy Pics from Winter Event. Either way hold on to them for next time.
