Scimitar Help

redz4twredz4tw Member Posts: 3
So I'm mainly a Fed or KDF player, and when I play rommie i use my fleet mogai. I decided to dust off my scimmy as a beam boat, and It seems, decent....until it starts taking damage from a cube. Not even a tac cube. A cube.
Here's my build. http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=falchionfailv1_5512

Btw, should I use a 2nd engi boff? And aux2batt?

My Romulan is a tactical officer. My Scimitar uses the three pack bonus from the consoles. I don't use beams, though. I make use a mix of Single Cannons / DHCs, and turrets. I also use the Omega Torpedo, and Assimilated console, for the damage increase. For my core, I'm running the MK12 Navigational Deflector and Engine off of the Romulan set, with a Covariant shield until I earn the Romulan MK12.

I haven't really been able to fly the Scimitar like a normal ship. For me, the ship seems comfortable sitting off stationary and firing into the targets, while my drone ships get into point blank range to engage my targets. That's just me, though.

I would run something closer like this. By all means I am only starting to work on my build and don't have all the answers, this is a aux2bat build, if you have a Marion doff,I would use DEM2. If not use reverse shield polarity. Find one of those doffs to extend RSP also. If you are going to stay nose heavy maybe switch the beam banks to duals beam banks.

Ok, so DBB would be better on the scimmy? Thanks to those fleet neutroniums I turn at 15 degrees now :D

This is more or less what i've been running.... but at the moment i have fleet AP's instead of the romulan plasma.. once I hit tier 5 rommy i will try the rom plasma out and see how it does.

Valdore console helps ALOT... I can solo ISE with this basic build, you should be able to without much hassle as well.

I hope it gives you some ideas.

I think one of the problems was I was running 2 tac bridge officers, and when I use aux2batt my shield resist goes up, I tank a lot better now. Should I buy the scimitar variant of the dreadnought?

i like the scimitar version because of the tac console heavy layout. But it's really about what you like....

i use the falchion over the scimitar these days, while teh scimi offers great dps potential, its as fragile as a glass cannon, I have run both beams and cannons on it, and depending on what your aiming to use it as, I would say 2 beam arrays at the rear with either the KCB or 360 AP, then a single torp of your choice (i use the elachi one as its not bad) and then a couple of DBB and a couple of beam arrays, this will give you plenty of firepoer forward, and will give you the option of boradsiding, tbh I never go into battle without atleast one Auxtobat ability now, its a lifesaver and gives a hefty boost to shields too.

If you want to go the easy way, equip all beam arrays ( unless you have kinetic cutting beam ) and use simeion1's boffs layout ... except for the lt. commander tac officer where you can put ... whatever you want actually with an aux2bat build.
If you want to play it more like an escort, dual beam banks on the front, omnidirectional ap beam array ( if you use ap weapons) and kinetic cutting beam and 1 beam array and, as of now, without the Marion Doff that I didn't get yet, I am finding more efficient a build with 4 dual beam banks and the grav torp from the protonic set together with the proton particle stabilizer for added crit chance : I do a little more DPS maybe because 4 dual beam banks drain less energy than 5.
Btw, I am talking of PvE.
I don't see why you are using mines : slow and they don't do a lot of damage, unless you play PvP where I guess those tractor beam mines might come very handy.

That shield abosrptive frequency generator ! I didn't know of that ! Is it so good as it look on paper? It sounds far better than the Scimitar's secondary shields for a high DPS build !

I don't understand it, I die with full shield!! I have a 50k something hull, and it's like the borg HY torpedo's go right through my shields! It's rediculous.

Everyone dies to Borg torps at least once. Doesn't matter what your ship is or how you fly it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Oh ok, lol. My fed cruisers usually shake it off, but romulans can't channel surplus power to shield resist either.

The only thing I might change, is look for Elashi crescent beam arrays. They are expensive but the need thu shield proc might be worth it.

Haven't used any of the Dreadnought Warbirds, but based on my experience with an Avenger, both a Dual Beam Bank and Dual Heavy Cannon build are viable. For the latter all you need is enough RCS Consoles, maybe mixed in with Hull Plating with +Turns as well. You still won't be as agile as an escort, but you should be able to bring the guns to bear. And if worse comes to worse, cloak and reposition while they can't see you.

Slide in the Advanced Scimitar Systems set if you can, the two part bonus gives you another +2 to Turn Rate, and the three set gives you Thalaron Pulse.

Edit: Also, you can use the LTCmnd Station for a Science Officer with Gravity Well, making targeting easier and keeping foes in line for the Thalaron Pulse.
