New Tac 50 looking for Cruiser advice

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look and hopefully offer some advice. I'm a relatively new 50, in a tiny fleet so Fleet upgrades aren't yet available and as I don't have a ton of EC to throw around I'm not keen on buying my way into access on one of the fleets that sell their resources. I'm just beginning to work on Rep (was recommended I start with Dyson which I am closing in on tier 2). I'm currently flying a Galaxy Dreadnought and it's very much a stylistic choice that I'm looking to keep and just try to get the most I can out of it.

All that said, I'm looking for what I should be doing as far as outfitting it to start working on team up content. As in, what missions are good to replay for the upgraded rewards until I can get the better ones. As I said earlier, I don't have much in the way of EC to throw around, and the Beam Arrays on the exchange are rather costly for rare and very rare XI. Any suggestions?

This is a cheap Gal-X build that I use right now, with a few upgrades in the mark of the engines and deflector, and i use the Adapted Maco Mk XII Covariant Shield. You get the paratrinic shield array by replaying the mission, past imperfect, and the Mk XI is a free version of Covariant Shield Array Mk XI [Cap]x3. Very nice shield for a cheap build. The phaser arrays you can get for around 6k EC a piece last time I looked.

This is a very very basic build that should put you in the right direction.

The Solanae set from the current event is pretty solid until you can get into some Omega Reputation or Fleet equipment. Alternately, the Jem'Hadar space set (from the missions Operation Gamma and Boldly They Rode, at the end of the Cardassian arc) are nice as well. However, since you are flying a Gal-X and want to stick to phasers (because of the lance), the Jem set's polaron-damage-bonus won't help you as much, so I'd probably go with Solanae.

There is a full list of farmable equipment here. Where you're at right now, I'd say either farm the green phaser arrays from War Is Good For Business, or possibly the antiproton arrays from Sphere Of Influence (if you don't care about buffing the phaser lance).

As for skills, the most important thing for cruisers 101 (if you aren't doing it already) is the EPTx chain. Emerency Power To Weapons and Emergency Power To Shields and get used to cycling between the two every 15 seconds to have both up all the time, giving you hardened shields and significantly more weapons energy to handle all that drain. You can get them always available by having either 1 two copies of each power (the basic way), 2 one copy of each power and a trio of Damage Control Engineer officers to reduce cooldowns, or 3 run a copy (or two) of Auxiliary To Battery with 3 purple Technician doffs to cut the cooldowns for everything but reducing heal effectiveness. Most veteran cruiser drivers go either option 3 (for maxed-out offense) or option 2 (more middle-of-the-road).

Speaking off doffs, start running colony chains. They're the missions when you go into the uncharted clusters with names like 'survey potential colony locations 1/7.' Run those missions in sequence (they're always numbered 1/7, 2/7, etc), and at the end you get a free blue-quality doff and a repeatable mission you can farm purple doffs from. It makes for a cheap way to gear up your doff roster instead of spending millions per. A list of what officers you get from what locations can be found here.

The Jem Hadar set is definitely good enough for the rep grind, even if it does not boost your weapons. I ran most of my toons trough the Omega grind with the Jem Hadar set as its shields are better than the free Reman and Breen shields.

Heck one of my toons still flies with the Jem Hadar engines (weapon power boost) and deflector (flow cap boost) and he has completed all of the reps. Its a great budget set.
My carrier is more powerful than your gal-dread
