I've been a loyal Fed Tac Escort captain and love my Fleet Defiant very much but alas time for a change has come. While I am unwilling to cave to the "do-over" philosophy of repeating all my accolades, reputations and whatnot to make a DPS god (aka Romulan), I am willing to give up the death grip I've had on my Defiant all this time and ... change.
EC, Fleet Marks and Fleet gear, Lobi and Rep Marks, ZEN are of no concern so please feel free to make any recommendations as if you could shop till you dropped.
Basically I'm asking ... "if price were no issue, what would you build to create a kick TRIBBLE really high DPS Fed Tac build?"
I'm open to any advise on ships, gear and skill builds ... Yes I know this is might be considered lazy asking you to do the work for me but truly I have difficulty keeping up with the gear changes and subsequent math involved to even approach min/maxxing.
Think of it this way ... if you got stuck with me in an Elite STF run, how would you want to see me built/geared. My flying and combat judgment are pretty good IMHO, but my current Defiant build is only seemingly putting out around 7K DPS. I gotta do better than that for you and for me.

My setup isn't some super high end build and is relatively easy to gear up, nor does it require lobi ships, millions of EC and alien monstrosity ships. It's pretty tanky and puts out more dps than any content in the game requires, and, bonus: its an iconic ship. If you want the saucer/nacelles classic look, your best two options are avenger and fleet assault cruiser IMO.
I use a fleet assault cruiser and hit 15k dps with it.
AP advanced fleet beam arrays and KCB with assimilated module, nukara universal, zero point, plasmonic leech (very important) 2pc Borg deflector/engine with elite shield/warp. Couple resist+hull hp engi consoles and one RCS, one science flow caps/-threat/+hull proc, full AP spire crit consoles. 3 purple techs.
Run at least one BFAW, TT, APB, EPTW/EPTS, Polarize hull, target weapon sub, DEM, RSP, and 2 copies of A2B.
Run human BOFF for space traits and make sure to max flow capacitor for the leech.
Enter combat? Activate EPTW/APB/APA/FOMM/FAW/TT/RSP/DEM then A2B. When EPTS comes off shared CD from EPTW, hit it and your 2nd copy of A2b. Repeat. Use hull heals as needed but before you hit a2b, and use TWS instead of FAW on single hard targets to reduce their damage to you.
If money (both real and imagined) are no object, choices are varied.
The pick of the bunch that I've seen:
- AP/Rom Plasma BFAW Avenger Battle Crusier (get the Fleet one over the C-Store, or if you have more than 1 Federation character, get the C-Store one for account unlock and then you only need 1 FSM for the fleet version). Some folk run A2B, some don't.
- Kumari (as posted above)
- JHAS (though not sure if any are still available)
Kumari seems pretty solid, but as far as top end dps goes, everyone who I've seen break 30k was in an a2b faw scimitar.
I'm sure there are fed builds out there that can top that, but I have yet to see one; they are few and far between.
Could you please post your Keybinds so that we may see an example of what you are saying. I am very intrigued by what you are saying with the cannon cycle being interrupted.

Strange. It's supposed to happen only with deflector abilities and fire on mark.

Wanted to thank you all again for the feedback and contributions.
I'm presently planning to try the recommended changes to my Fleet Defiant as well and build an entirely new Fleet Avenger Beam build.
While I love the fighter jocky feel of my Defiant, I do miss the deliberate muscle feel of a capital ship and I think the Avengre will bring that back nicely.

That's off the top of my head... I don't promise that the builds I linked are optimal, as I don't run them, but that's what I've gleaned so far.
