I bet some people are going to get up tight over this thread because of what i'm going to suggest and simply because to a lot of people the star trek books are not considered "canon".
But to hell with it.
I was thinking about a new species that would be good to have in the game as a new enemy. a species that we have never seen before and that would allow the devs to be creative on (if they ever chose to go with the idea).
And i thought of the Furies. Now to anyone who has never heard of the Furies, they are a collective race out of the Star Trek Invasion books.
In essence they use to have a n empire that spanned most of the Alpha Quadrant back when humans were erecting the Stone Hengh in England and around the time of the Druids etc. To cut a long story short the "havoc" were kicked out of the alpha quadrant by another species they called the "Unclean".
And Basically over the 4 books that span (at the time) the 4 star trek series (tos, nxt gen, DS9, Voyager) the Furies tried to retake back their home.
And i was thinking that these "Furies" would make a great new enemy for the federation. The planet they were banished to is based in the delta quadrant and they are trying to invade earth and re-create their lost empire.
I know this post is a bit long winded, my apologes for that.
I love those books. Just read them yet again the other month.
The Furies were a great idea. Would be fun to find out what happened to them after the VOY book. Though I'd like to see them finish the story they have going before bringing in more guys.
Also..... the unclean would certainly be a crazy fight as well. Easily boss levels for ground combat. And would work as space combat as well.

I like the content of some star trek novels.... but I must shift to the canon point. It's not that the content is not "considered to be canon my some people" it's that, by the IP holder policy the content of the novels IS NOT CANON. You can consider it canon all you like. You're not bound by CBS policies and licensing models. As such what you consider whatever does not matter anymore than what I consider whatever. All that matters is what the licensing policies and procedures treat it as. They are considered offshoots (but not contained in) of the prime universe. Novel writers can work within each others story arcs and expand on it and such. But STO is based on the prime universe and licensed via the IP. At best they are "fanon" (that is something that is treated as canon by fans).
Sorry OP never going to happen, the devs have not even bothered to make Romulans a whole race yet.
...and yet we have gingerbread men, snowball launchers, subspace disco balls, and dinosaurs with lasers attached to their heads, sadly. Same goes for the Cardassian Union. I'd love to see the Romulan faction receive more content, followed by a start to the Cardassian faction, before we start adding any more divergent storylines. I think Cryptic did an amazing job with the storyline for the Romulan faction, so I'm eager to see what they can cook up for the Cardies.
OP...those were great books, and it sounds like a cool idea to me, but I have to agree with others that things currently in-the-works need to be fleshed-out and/or finished first. Also, they aren't canon, so that causes problems as well.
oh god, not another book to game idea, all Trek books should be burned, they just confuse and poo all over Trek lore, really they do. Then there is the issue of licensing such an idea, you have to jump hoops between CBS, the author, and god who know what else.
I wanted the Kziniti to come alive in STO, what did we get, the frack'n Ferasan. The who you say? Exactly my point.
The reason why Kziniti could not be introduced, was the simple reason they belong to another universe, so there was license issues.

If that's the case then this game should be destroyed as this game is not 100% canon. yes there are canon ships in the game, but the stories etc are not really canon. The only way the game gets away with it, is by been set in the future. And in some ways i think some of the books are canon as they fill in some of the missing pieces and also gaps.
As the Devs have explained to us more than once, their rights to the material are to the IP held by CBS. Basically all of the TV shows and the movies made before JJTrek.
The books, while licensed by the IP-holders, are not themselves owned by them. CBS can't hand those rights out to whomever.
Cryptic had to jump through a lot of hoops just to get the Vesta in the game. Which goes to show that it is possible, but it has to be worth Cryptic's time and money to do it.
Easier for Cryptic to stick with the "Big Bads" they can create themselves or adapt from the source material.
That said, there's nothing wrong with the OP making a suggestion and this doesn't need to devolve into an argument over canon.

the simple reason that you won't see much in the way of novel stuff in STO is licensing. say you want the furies. so you will have to get the rights from what, 6 different authors, permission for CBS and negotiate a deal with Pocket books. financially not gonna every happen.
i'm actually surprised that capt McKenzie made it to STO since he is a novel only character
With the legal marathon that it took to get the Vesta class starship from the Destiny series into the game- I highly doubt they will go down that road again. The Vesta is a non-canon starship so anything is possible, just not likely.

Then this thread is completely useless.
And it's prolly true that the Iconians are these Furies.
