Curious to know if its been talked about concerning the ability to change your species. I'm considering picking up the life time sub in the near future, and would like to change over to the liberated borg, but don't want to grind my way up with a new toon.

It has been talked about. At some point it was "maybe", at another point it was "no".... and I don't know the current stance on it.
The problem that was mentioned is that this would TRIBBLE up the costumes.... which I can't really see as a problem, with the changed species IMO the costumes had to be deleted and... thats it...

I have the same reason for being able to re-species a character. I became a lifer more than a year later, but I have a human character I'd love to be able to turn into an assimilated Borg.
I'd be happy if they would even turn 'Assimilated' into a trait, and then multiple species could be liberated and use the Borg costume options -- I mean, why are those costume items limited to playable characters who are either appearing human, Romulan, or Klingon? What good reason is there that I can't have a playable Benzite with an assimilated appearance, or Ferengi, Gorn, Reman, etc. etc.

I think I remember it complained that it didn't seem 'canon', too. Let's examine Star Trek canon, shall we? Space hippies; Abraham Lincoln; Spock's Brain; and didn't Janeway and Paris turn into quadrupedal reptiles, copulate, and then turn back into humans without any apparent harm done?
But surgical alteration and genetic manipulation are also well within canon, too, and more than adequate as an explanation if anyone is really THAT uptight/literal.
Canon: because Humans flying Breen/Cardassian/Hirogen/etc. ships, with mix and match crew from enemies of the Federation (perhaps with the exception of Remans), and mass murdering fleets of starships single-handed is canon. The "canon" argument has already ceased to be an effective argument at this point.
I say species and career change tokens should be allowed!!!

It should be noted that "Species Retrain" doesn't make much sense. You can't "retrain" your species, as you're born with it. I would personally call it "Mutation Token" or something or other.

The issue has come up a bunch of times.
The problem appears to be that Cryptic make a lot of money out of character slots and respecing species willy nilly could interfere with that.
However, it strikes me that a major time people want to respec species is when they get an LTS and want an existing characters inventory and history as a liberated Borg.
So, why not give out with an LTS one token that lets you do just that.
No cstore version, not more than one per faction.
But LTSers get to convert one toon per faction to liberated borg.
[...] and didn't Janeway and Paris turn into quadrupedal reptiles, copulate, and then turn back into humans without any apparent harm done?
Technically, I don't think they could be considered quadrupedal, since their back legs were just stumps or flaps. They just drag their bodies around by their front legs. That probably supports your point even more.

I think that is all much more realistic then a t5 connie...^^
There is also the question: If you can swap race at will (or for a fee) within the game, What's the point of selecting one? It becomes as meaningless as changing a uniform's color. If there's no meaning to it, why ask anyone to bother with it at all?
My two cents? If your that attached to changing races, make a new character. Even if you don't want to point to real money into the system, it's not that difficult to horde enough dilithium to trade for in game coins.

Easy, sell a C-Store item that is once per character and like 2500 Zen. People still pay for character slots and Cryptic gets paid for the species transfer.
They could also do a career retrain, which IMO would be nice. This could be in the C-Store as well. You can't train a Lib Borg Engineer in DEM 3 if you're not an Engineer.

This game is... well... that game should be about our CREWS not one particular person.
Species Retrain: "Another officer takes over the previous captains post", not "Genetic engineering".

Well a human "costume" shouldn't be usable then any more.
