What's the story with Tribbles?

I don't know where I got them from but pretty much right from the start of the game I've had a couple of Tribbles, I didn't know what to do with them so I gave one to each of my Bridge Officers and I know they use them because on ground missions I can sometimes hear Tribble noises behind me.

About a week ago I noticed that there were a couple of Tribbles in my inventory so checked all the Bridge Officers to see which ones had put their Tribbles back in the inventory but they all still had theirs so I put these "spare" Tribbles into the bank.

Well today I went to the bank and I'll be dammed if I didn't have to delete six Tribbles because it's starting to fill up with them

What am I supposed to do with all these Tribbles

The tribbles you get as drops are fairly useless. They provide an out of combat heal, but your health regens pretty fast out of combat anyway. Other special tribbles are more useful, as they will provide passive buffs for up to 30 minutes when you use them, or provide bonus damage against a specific NPC race (Borg, Undine). For an easy to get and fairly useful one, first make sure you've completed the mission "Spin the Wheel", then purchase a Comet Cocktail from a bartender on Drozana. Let a tribble eat the Comet Cocktail, and you should have a Triolic Tribble. It gives a small boost to damage resistance.

Klingons can feed standard tribbles to a cannibal tribble and turn the carcasses in for latinum. That's as useful as they really get.

KDF can also "cook" them (Doff mission), which will give you a blue quality ground consumable, feed that to a normal tribble and you get a cannibal.

Wait they're not eating the meals I've got stored in the bank are they?

Yes, tribbles in your bank or inventory will eat whatever food you have. Ones on your Boffs will not eat anything, even if there's food on your Boff. Putting tribbles on your Boffs is a safe place. I stick all mine on my non-ground combat crew.

Be happy if you only had 6 baby tribbles. I cam back to my bank one time to find a couple dozen and my rare foods gone. :(

    I just have :(

They have completely cleared me out, I reckon I've lost a good ten meals/drinks (all different types) that were in the bank with them, they must have been pigging out for the last few days and I never noticed my stuff was vanishing.

All Star Trek fans know what Tribbles do, I can't believe it never even crossed my mind that having food and Tribbles in the same place would be a bad thing, if the STO devs read this post they will all fall about laughing lol

Well played devs, well played :D

I had that problem, too, once. Needless to say, many tribbles got a personal introduction to the cold vacuum of space that day.

Don't feel too bad Shire, I had the exact same thing happen when I got my very first Tribbles. XD

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

I hope they replace the passive breeding system with an active one, a system where the player has to trigger the breeding. As it is now you cannot save tribbles and food in the same place. You can save them in the fleet bank and the account bank together. They don't breed there.

Perhaps I would buy a tribble container for zen. A box that can contain a couple of tribbles and they cannot touch your food.

Klingons, Nausicaans and Letheans cannot use tribbles, not the regular ones that drop and are breeded from those . They can use the special ones. I do not understand this. A tribble is a tribble.

Well, then they wouldn't be tribbles.

Tribble + food = A whole lot of tribbles

Actually they can use breed tribs. My one Boff is walking around with one of the tiger striped buggers and she used it last night while I was doing Cold Call. Bugger jumped about a foot when she brought it out and tried to pet it.

I had a funny incident happen with tribbles way back when I first started playing STO. I was playing "The House Always Wins" with my Klingon captain, when out of nowhere I hear a tribble screaming. I looked around, no tribbles. A few minutes later, it happened again. It took me a while to figure out what was going on.

Some time earlier, I had picked up a tribble. Having no idea what to do with it, I had handed it to my science officer. She was trying to use it, and we know that (normal) tribbles don't like Klingons.... :)

Of course not, that would be cruel. I beamed them into the sun, where they'll be no tribble at all.

What? There weren't any Klingon ships around.

I had some extra winter food in one bank, and somehow accidentally dumped a tribble in there when dealing with loot one day...

It was a candy-striped tribblepocalypse the next time I looked in the bank.

I've started keeping a cannibal tribble in every alt's inventory, to ensure that random tribbles that drop on ground missions are safely disposed of.

Cannibal Tribbles are a must on all my characters. Pretty easy to get on the Exchange, and you can either give the carcasses to your own KDF characters, or sell them to other people via the Exchange.

No worries. I am a lifer since alpha and did not realize this either. I figured that if tribble plus food on my officers' *pockets* did not produce more tribbles...surely tribbles in stasis (a.k.a. the bank) would be fine next to all those storage compartments full of quadrotriticale.

Cannot believe they still use those 22nd century tech level storage in the 25th. :D

Had not heard of a tribble predator since the Animated Series...did not know we had cannibal tribs in sto. Learn something new every day.

I just wish you could transport them to an enemy ship...

I had not considered selling the carcasses for some reason...
