New 'revamped' episodes map assets coming to the Foundry?

captainhunter1captainhunter1 Member Posts: 1,633 Arc User
Just played through the newly revamped Klingon War (Federation) episodes and some of the map 'upgrades' are really cool (especially Treasure Trading Station, Rescue the Researchers, and Kuvah'mugh).

Any chance we could see these new versions added to the Foundry assets anytime soon?

I very badly need the new Treasure Trading Station one - to keep my 'Treasure of Argelius II' mission in sync with the new artwork. (Thanks BTW for taking some of my 'suggestions' mentioned in that mission for the new station look :))

Looking forward to (hopefully) seeing these new maps available to us very soon! :D

    "That's a little joke..."

But seriously, I think I did hear talk on the latest livestream with LCDRMiller about getting the new interiors from the tutorial in the Foundry. Just talk though.

Wasn't confirmation that it's coming, but it was funny because Branflakes was talking about adding the origin interiors as a player ship interior and LtCmdMiller assumed he was talking about the Foundry. Almost a conditioned response there, so someone is asking a lot on our behalf. ;)

You can watch it here. Jump to right at the 2 hour mark.

That made me lol so hard.... :D

It's nice to know that the devs keep thinking about it. :D

Both Geko and D'Angelo have made reference to that. This will be the third version of ESD. We have access to the first two, maybe we'll get this one as well.

ooo, I hope so. I've always felt ESD to be a bit lacklustre when compared to some entry points in MMO games. I mean, it is the main starbase for the whole Federation, should have some grandeur to it - maybe more characters and mini-misions within. More areas and stunning views. And perhaps build in more things we can use in the foundry - in terms of objects, people, doors and rooms to use. Perhaps give a good alternative to using that console opposite the transporter room.

Of course, that means I'll then have to remaster "Ghosts of War, Part V" (or at least two maps therein) yet again, after I just finished remastering it the first time... :(

I have a strong feeling that the new ESD won't be a circle like the current one. D'Angelo has been talking complete rebuild.

personally i hope the new ESD map has a bigger diameter , so it feels like a lower deck than the current one, that way we could use the current map and a new on in conjunction to let players in foundry missions move between decks?

I think it would be cool to have it be only a section of the circle, with one side facing into space and the other facing into the interior docking bay. If it were up to me, you wouldn't enter via the transporter room, but via a private docking port where your ship is docked. Perhaps though, that might be a little too much immersion over gameplay.

I'm thinking it'll be + shaped. With the beam in at center and important stuff clustered around it. But I don't know....

Several decks would be cool. With something so large, why would ever vital area be clumped together? You'd need a large imposing docking port for arrivals and shipyard; looking inside, like in Search for Spock, which would be cool if they could map on an image of the player's ship to one. Maybe a large departures-like board showing the ship names of every captain currently logged into ESD.

Then you'd have a more cosy outer-ring style area with tailors, banks, restaurant looking out to Earth. Then a few areas of science labs, medical bays etc. which would have basic services and opportunities for foundry interactions. And an operations/Quinn area that would be rather large as it would essentially govern activity within Sol (exactly how many people seem to be running all that right now? 8?

Well, that would be nice. But most importantly it would be cool to build in lots of opportunity for foundry interactions across the whole station!

Perhaps we should look to the fleet starbases as being indicative of their current starbase design ethos? Perhaps with multiple areas accessable via turbolift?

That is a fantastic idea and I truly hope they do not touch the exterior of ESD, its one of the few truly canon locations.

Q had something to say about that.

The only place old ESD exists in the Foundry.

Yes. But players complained, and they changed it to the space mushroom we have now. Maybe it was less canon, but it was a lot more beautiful the way it was.

What I always found hilarious there, was that Starfleet has used a variety of space station designs besides the "space mushroom" in the TV shows.
