Is it just me or.. (costumes kdf)

angrybear32angrybear32 Member Posts: 59 Arc User
Are there really very few kdf costume options?

I know there are some outfit lock boxes.
I also know there are a bitter few unlocks through rep.

But it seems, 4 years later..., that there are very very few costumes for KDF specifically.

Even as default, not incl. c-store stuff, there are a whole bunch of em for FED.
Yet for KDF, even incl. orion female outfits :P which is clearly meant for the younger crowd, there is basicly nothing to choose from.

If you do incl. C-store stuff, well there is 1 klingon academy outfit, and thats it.

This game isnt the most indepth of games such as it is.
Customisation is everything, plenty of ships to choose from, even some horribly expensive ones either for lobi / money or c-store stuff, from which i have bought several and spend 100's of euros on (yes im a lil nuts i guess)

But char. customisation seems really lacking, i guess even on fed side all things considered.
Its been 4 years as i mentioned, i can see that they are trying to improve upon alot of stuff, but how can they neglect the 1 part perhaps in the top 3 of what normally is most important in mmo's in general?

Or am i missing something?

To clarify, i used to play in the first 40 days when the game released, it was horrible so i quit.
Only came back about a month ago and reactivated my sub instead of playing for free.
So i obviously dont know everything.

I'd say what you missed is the dozens of other posts in the Klingon section of the forums, pretty much saying the same things ...

Essentially ... "That group" who wants a certain type of uniform, just rolls an Orion and sticks them in the metal bikini's ... Those of us who RP more traditional Klingon Captains, are generally content enough with the outfit choices.

Not saying that I, or most others, wouldn't mind a few more options, and the ability to "mix 'n' match" a bit more ... But I guess Cryptic (or PWE) don't see any profit in it, as it's usually "that group" who spend money on chainmail bikini's, and they seem happy with the current choices ...

Even the Klingon Fleet uniform (Bortas Uniform) is incomplete, missing the shoulder pads and sash options that you see on the tailor's dummy. >_<

While the KDF tailor is still bugged after 2 years, the KDF does have the advantage of mixing the clothing parts without needing the cheats.

That said, I think the two motivators why that KDF have so little clothing options is 1) KDF isn't a big money maker, 2) They really have limited options on clothing seen in the show.

Of course, they could easily gather inspration from the Klingon Interactive Game and the statues John Eaves made for the Hall of Warriors.

KDF is, IMO, not so badly off for Klingons. You can do pretty well anything seen onscreen (including the more diverse uniforms of Enterprise) and even the tuk'zedo from "How much for just the planet". The only serious omissions are the female outfits from TOS and TNG. I'm sure Mara's dress from Day of the Dove would sell like mad in the Z-store.

Orions and Nausicaans do pretty well for race-specific options. The Gorn could do with more that reflect their onscreen looks (tunics!) plus the fact that they're less barbaric than the other KDF races.

Argh! Why do we not have that? The current uniform is basically figure two, but without the shoulder pads, collar, or sash. :(

OP, the KDF has a lot of costumes, but they are species oriented, eg costumes for Orions, Nausicaans, and Klingons (maybe more). Fed has costumes for Federation and does not have species costumes for Vulcan etc (to my knowledge).

I will also say, I unlock more costumes for my KDF Trill female than for any other, since the pieces combine into more interesting setups (mining wrist guards, Bortasqu boots, etc). Most of the Fed uniforms look really similar and it doesnt seem worth the money most of the time.

This is what "a certain group" really want ...

Maybe one day ... I know Cryptic is building things up slowly, and at least now Klingons do get an actual full campaign (not like in the 'Pepperidge Farms' days apparently, which thankfully was before my time in STO) ... So eventually we'll get more options ... I hope.

Even if there were more costumes choices for the KDF, since the tailor is bugged you wouldn't be able to wear them anyway.:(

Honestly, at this point, all I want is for their existing options to actually.. work. Be'ves as been MIA since.. Season 7? Constume slots love to get permanently broken, Marauder Boffs cannot be customized, and the list goes on.

Once their clothing actually works properly, then I might be interesting in finally getting stuff like a Dahar Master C-store outfit and sleeveless/open-chested uniform variants like we saw in Star Trek V.

We may not have as many costumes but we sure do look better.

Every time I go on my fed I just feel, meh... Everyone looks the same!

Agreed. Personally I'd love to see the Feds gain some more off duty uniforms that can see the variation of the Romulan outfits can achieve. Romulans look amazing.

I had hoped the merc outfit would be a good substitute but I found it very underwhelming. Other than the bandoliers it's very flat and one dimensional.

What I want to know is why Klingons in this game have dredlocks, I don't remember ANY in the shows or movies having them, so who thought it was a good idea to give it to them in the game?

I'm very happy with the Klingon uniform options. I like them more than the original Federation and Romulan uniform designs. I haven't looked into the other races too much since I wanted an all Klingon crew.

I so agree that this is needed. Once these Kahn things came out I was thinking finally now my KDF can get some cloths .. (my KDF is female alien - which basically has nothing interesting .. not even a skirt) but I realised I am playing mac.. so no new uniform for me.

I guess I would like to say there is no female touch to the uniforms on KDF . I don't know about you but I don't want to roll out a Orion because they have more female uni options. Besides I think the "bikini" on the orion opinion side is tiny offensive. Being a real female player I wouldn't want any of my toon to walk around like that. Luckily I was able to get the both uniform for my alien KDF:. but I can't keep rolling out that much lobis for every character.. I so rarely get them.

Well as a male player, even im a little offended.
Orion costumes even though i understand why its like that, its actually "too" naked.

    Doesnt make alot of sense.

Take romulans for example, at least with them i feel like you can actually have some decent clothing options. (like the fleet flotilla costumes or Alliance costumes etc)
Put some effort into colour options and you can look quite decent.

however as i literally spend over 200 euros on 1 orion char alone (ships, lobi stuff etc), i cant keep doing that either.

Not that the fed options is perfect, but after 4 years it feels limited overall and i feel let down somewhat.

Great job on expanding the game in general though and overhauls that i've seen, compared to when the game came out.

I play Orion, but I don't run around ALL the time in a bikini...

(just at dance parties... but even then not all the time any more)

I recall the outfit the 3 orions wore in the 'sode of Enterpeise... flowing multilayered skirts, tucked long skirts... There are so many other possibilities. BRIGHTER hues.

After 4 years nothing new for Orions that isn't for KDF as a whole (I wear the Bort uni a lot)

As long as there is this perception that KDF never buy anything I'll hear other players used as a justification to shoot down arguments..

But then KDF players buy a lot of lock box keys, I see a lot of KDF female characters running around in the warriors skirts from the Lobi store.. SOMEBODY bought $20 worth of lock box keys JUST to get a skirt... per character!

IF there were more then one KDF costume availible in the C-store. And I do see a lot of characters running around with bits of the Klingon Academy uniform on a regular basis.

I see a lot of KDF players flying Fleet ships... And I see quite a few KDF running around in c-store ships..

KDF players spend plenty of money... It would be nice if they had more to spend it on.

I don't especially bother as a KDF with rep system outfits because KDF so damd many have been bugged.

Blizzard get costumes right, NCsoft gets em right Carbine gets 'em right... and the list goes on and on and on..

Cryptic isn't exactly on the list ya know...

Oh, but its not as important as (fill in the blank)

There are plenty of artists, plenty of animators on the dev team...

It should be important... every bit as important as ships...

I'm not sure how popular this would be but what if Cryptic put some of the race specific costumes up for sale on the C-Store? If a Caitian can wear T'Pol's outfit from Enterprise why can't an Orion (male or female) wear a Nausicaans?

I don't know how much extra work it would be for Cryptic to unlock the pieces and I know it wouldn't add anything new to the game but at least it would give more costume options to a faction with a distinct dearth.

I kinda noticed this while putting together some Klinks for a foundry mission. Still, I must admit we have more variety than the Klingons from the show did...

Fix the tailor and the broken costume slots.. THEN I might be willing to buy more slots and costumes.

    Not until then.

What they need to do is remove the off-duty category. Yes, some players would put their boffs in formal wear, but I just don't care anymore. There are a lot of nice costume pieces on things like the mercenary set and the new Arc Khan promo that would mix really, really nicely with on-duty KDF and Romulan uniforms. But under the current system you can't use most of them together. :(
