Hello,

I have been reading new posts and one of the comments made referred to how things are going of the way of DPS and Vape builds.

My view on DPS. People are going to try to push how much they can push the numbers but hitting everything. I got a little bit of the bug and have made improvements to finally break the 10K barrier. In doing so I found it hasn't really required much skill.... go to target park/tank and shoot until it blows up and repeat.

My view on Vape builds. This tailors more on PvP. I read how a fellow STO is quitting as he cannot keep up with the one shot kills and that even with all the grinding to get the very best top gear.... he is wasted in one shot kills. I get his frustration and speaks to what I said in the beginning where a majority of players are power hungry.

I know why I started playing STO and that was for the space battles. Watching the show you do see some 1 shot kills but you also see nice beautifully scripted space battles where in they pass shot turn around, repeat until dead.

This is where I need advise. Is there a group of people who want to start a group where in you do stfs and they actually are pushing you and closely resembles the Star Trek feel of things.

Some my thoughts were as follows

- eliminate parking and shoot. In Star Trek I have never seen the Defiant park in front of cube and just shoot. It was flying around doing strafe runs and torps would shoot from the front and back. Never stop, keep moving at impulse so this forces you to come in, shoot, go out and shoot... just like the show.

- maybe dumb down gear? Not sure how people would feel about this especially how we all have grinded to get the absolute best gear but only for this type of runs im thinking, lets take down the gear to do lesser damage and lengthen the time to play an stf for enjoyment and NOT blowing threw it in 2 mins.

Case in point - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPzJSBHG4pI it takes what... 5 or more ships to detroy that thing and the Defiant didn't look so good. Granted a combied attack like they did there before blowing up the borg won't look like that in STO but I think we can get it close.

- I see strategy being implemented more by team leaders for example calling out an attack pattern. where ships would go attack in a certain way for example... leader calls/types out "attack patter epsilon"... sci ship comes in does his sci stuff, tac ship comes in hot unloads his payload then the eng tank comes in heals or supports the other team.

There are a lot of ideas floating in my head but I just wanted to see if starting a group like this is even possible or if Im the only one who wants to play like this.

CC are welcome... in the end I would like to create a group of people who want to play how the show looked and felt like. This would also be a nice intro for someone just getting into the game.

The DPS channels are there... the PvP battles are still there.... the dreaded grinding is still there but maybe just to change it up a bit have a channel where you play STO how, well in my mind, it was intended to be... fun.

Just needed to unload this idea out there and see what the STO community feels.

If there is a group of people like this out there already... please point me in that direction.

Thanks... trizeo@trizeo1 is my game name.

I do keep my Captain level Defiant on hand which only runs Aegis and blue XI gear. Interfleet PvP (of similarly outfitted ships) and ESTF PUGs are the only things I do with it though.

Back when Borg ESTFs required tactics, what made an easy run was having a good Engineer Captain with lots of threat control and heals. Alas, now we have damage run amok and I feel somewhat nostalgic for those days when it was a challenge.

I don't know if I'd go so far as having a commander call out maneuvers but it's an interesting idea. Like you said, people like their shineys, so I wish you luck in forming such a group.

With the new load out save feature coming out it would be easy to switch back and forth. Yeah I don't know if my idea has any merit or what rules there would be but at least trying to see if there's any interest.

Would be fun if you got it going. I've pretty much given up on ESTFs because there's almost always at least one ship that can just melt through everything to the point its not even worth playing, and there's just no way to avoid those people anymore. When KASE is finished in under 4 minutes, why even bother queuing? Sadly, I think the number of people who want the bestest Scimitar or Kumari or whatever vastly outnumber the people who want a fun drawn-out fight, and so Cryptic will keep releasing them. But if there were a channel like Limit10k or something, I"d be all over that.

Hi and thanks for the comment.

You can still rip thru ISE in 4 if you want... especially if you want to make marks and dill quickly. This is just trying to add another depth to the game.

I'd even lower even more TBH.

My forum name is my @handle, feel free to contact me with details.

I really think it may be cool to run scenarios in PvP. But teaming makes things difficult. What came to mind first would be something out of TNG. One person brings a Galaxy, playing the Enterprise, two bring BoPs on one side, and two bring D'Deridex Warbirds on the other and see who wins. But the fact that there's no open teaming is a fail for that.

Beyond STFs we could do Tau Dewa patrols as a team, this is something my fleet did on occasion. Maybe someone else may have better ideas.

I'll support this, and not just because Trizeo is a fleetmate.

Before I started min-maxing the Kumari on my main character, I would run with less-than stellar gear, and I often spent STFs and missions actually piloting my ship, rather than just parking and unloading my fully buffed Wing Cannon Overloads.

With the introduction of the Solanae, Nov and Aves, I've found a true interest in the Science class. My Fed Sci only dishes out 4-4.6k DPS, but he has excellent crowd control by way of Grav Well, Temporal Distortion Device, and Grav Torp. It's lots of fun running around netting mobs using these tactics. :D

Also, as a thought, to simplify some "guidelines" to follow it could be as simple as no Mk XII, and only fleet weapons from the fleet equips.

That would keep any vessels from being too OP (and keep most vessels from hitting or exceeding 10k DPS). it would also keep the rules pretty simple.

I have to admit, I do enjoy working with my fleet mates making our builds better (which in turn has helped us teach others in the fleet how to make their ships better too). It is just enjoyable to be able to go into a ESTF and not worry about whether or not you are going to have a really bad event (and it can still happen even when running with a full 10K team):D.

That said, I do also like the challenge of using a ship that may need to work a bit harder to get the job done, but then again only with people that know what they are doing and also in similar ships. As an example, we have taken to doing the Fleet alert in Shuttle sized ships (we only go in as a full team so as not to hurt anyone else's chances in the event).

Anyway as to not go on too long, if there were a channel that were dedicated to maybe taking lower level ships into the events I would be interested. It is always fun to see what we can make this game to for us.

    Cheers -

trizeo1, you may not know this but your fleetmates ae working on build a 5 man team of people to run STF's in the T2 (lvl 10) Connie class cruisers.

There are also 2 groups working to get builds to 2 man hive elite.

    Hey Nato,

No I didn't know about this but I do remember you taking out the Connie for ISE saying something about testing/trying it out.

What I'm trying to accomplish is where anyone can bring any ship of their choice into an STF. Could be lvl1 or lvl 50, once the team is formed then the tactics can be figured out then as well but it is playing of your idea of having 5 Connie's but with a different approach. It will force the group to communicate and come out with a strategy of attack/support.

I'd like to see the groups in action when it's a go, lmk.

Some of the thoughts I had about rules/regulations/guidelines

    - ships must use their race specific energy weapons just like on the show so for example for Fed phasers & Klingons Disruptors and so on

    - ships must have torps in the front & back

I will create an official thread with the name of the channel when I've formed and tested it out. Until then and even afterwards it will be a WIP but the intention of the channel is to form groups of same minded people who want to try and bring the feel of Star Trek online. As mentioned before if your looking to complete ISE in 2 mins... the channel is NOT for you.

    Thanks Nato for the reply

Solution to park and fire is to lose your defense. The longer you stay put, the worse your situation becomes. Movement is basically what they call "maneuvers". If they added this to the game there would be more action on the screen. If Cryptic applies something similar to the above, staying put in front of a Cube is the worst thing one can do, as this is exactly what the cube wants you to be...that's why they hit you with tractor beams.
