Help Please: Fleet Excelsior Build Advice

Hello,

After over a year of playing, undertaking the 1st ever Boot Camp and generally learning from the forms I wish to submit my present build for your opinions and or advice on how to not only improve the build itself but equally as important, my skill tree. I have trouble with the latter still in particular as there is so much to take on board.

Things missing from my build is: Nimbus Distress Call. (Does not seem to be an option there)

Furthermore, I recently read that the Plasmonic Leach does not work well with the Maco XII shields. Thus, suggestions on which shield I should be using would be helpful as I removed the Leach in favor of using a third Fleet Neutronium Hull Plating for the time being. I also know that I should put a minimum of 6 points into flow capacitors on my skill tree in order to benefit from the Plasmonic Leach Console - is this correct?

As for BOFF's and DOFF's, I run all purples. I just only recently acquired the DOFF's necessary including Marion to run an A2B build. Tell me, would the embassy Romulans be worth the buy? What about the Nukara Console from the rep system?

Finally, for PVE I sometimes run a torp (wide angle front and omega in rear) HOWEVER I do PVP often enough and find PVP builds just as durable in STF's. Many of you might see the PVP influence in my build strategies. (well, hopefully anyways...)

I am a Tactical Captain by the way and though I have used escorts in the past including the Fleet Defiant, Fleet Prommy, and Mobius I inevitably keep going back to cruisers. I also own the Fleet Avenger and Fleet Assault Cruiser. Again, I dunno why but I keep going back to the Excelsior. Nothing to do with the aesthetics of the ship so much as the ship itself has just been my old faithful, so to speak.

Thus, just to recap, suggestions regarding my build and especially with regards to my skill tree would be greatly appreciated. Hope the above is enough to give you a clear picture.

Again, thanks very much!

3 techs, marion, warp core cleanser and a rsp doff
This is what you should be rolling into pvp with

Boffs are streamlined, gear was decent.

Your skills are missing huge allocations

I'd kill any skill points to projectiles unless you absolutely must have them (they just suck in this game, sadly...a single is not worth the trouble)

You should have points in power insulator others drainer will murder you

Inertial dampeners are great to help against gws and tractor beams

3 teams are never good, aux2bat will keep tt at global and you will have et when you feel your shields aren't under fire

Driver skill is decent to try and catch runners

Subsystem repair can save you more times then you would think

Single aux2bat? Double it up man

Flow caps is decent for your leech, good place to toss skill extra skill points

9 points everywhere isn't always advised...like the last 3 in eps transfer gives next to nothing

Rom embassy boffs grant 2.5% crit and 5% crtd. When you wouldn't get anything. They are great.

    Any questions?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Dahminus!

I have the three tech doffs and marion. Have to see if I have the rsp and warp cleanser doff though?!

Yeah my skill tree was based on looking over various escort build and their skill trees. Something that was not covered really in boot camp back when it first began in the Fall of 2012. I have always had a hard time navigating the skill tree. Unfortunately, you are right, torpedo's are pointless in PVP especially and only deal out an insignificant amount of damage even in PVE. That has to go.

I have read often that putting more than six points in any skill is usually not necessary. Would you agree with that? Should I just spend six points in the areas you recommended and maybe top them off if I have points left to spare?

I was looking at the embassy Boff's yesterday and noticed that the Superior Romulan Operative is a Blue quality officer. I also read that when equipped it reads on my crew manifest as a purple Boff? Is this correct? I am just not sure really which Romulan Boff's I am supposed to get and whether equipping just two is enough and for what career? Finally, do you know if the Nukara console is worth the grind?

Oh, btw, yeah, your absolutely right about using two A2B's...I just got so use to using the present configuration that I procrastinated. However, to get DEM at commander level I need to be trained by an Engineering Admiral, don't I? Thanks so much, I appreciate your help.

6 is the "play it safe" way of thinking. Try putting 6 in all the crucial spots and then top up the big time winners to 9

For ground, 66,000 points is the bare minimum, try to spend exactly that and jack up your space to the maximum 300,000

As long as it has superior rom operative, your fine. Blue or not. Only the tactical will have this.

Blue male tactical are what you want, they have the space trait and are cheaper then the purps. And the more the merrier. If you have a tact seating, make it a sro rom

The nukara console is well worth the grind. Acc is king. A missed hot does no damage and there is the overflow aspect that comes into play.

Mind you overflow is bugged on bfaw but it will be fixed one day.

    Cheers

    Hi,

So I have revised my skill tree with the suggestions that you made. Again, thank you. Now I just need to work on getting new Rom Boffs and a fleet shield.

The never ending build.... oh, btw, cant use DEM3 until someone is kind enough to train one of my Boffs in it...which thus far I have yet to be able to do. See you in game.

@dahminus - Attack Pattern Omega? Aux to Engines? What's the rationale to these options? I'm not saying they are bad options but I do not see them in discussions often.

While this thread is here I thought I would also ask if someone could kindly direct me as to how to get DEM III as presently nobody seems to biting for the opportunity to make some EC. One person did try but alas, couldn't train me at the end unfortunately.

Engineering Character that's got 6 points into Energy Weapon Specialization is the only way to get it. If you're not an Engie, then you're going to have to trade BOffs with someone who is.

    Attack pattern omega reasoning

Attack pattern omega will grant a speed and turn boost to keep the defense high and to aid in shaking an escort on the rear. It also provides an escape for tractor beams, a resistance boost and a damage boost.

For strictly pve. I would always go beta, but nothing compares to the epic utility of omega in pvp (still decent in pve of course)

Aux to engines (i assume you mean emergency power to engines) reasoning

I prefer engines over shields due to how much speed and turn it grants. I used to run shields like most everyone but after trying engines, I feel naked without it. It is absolutely addicting and I don't miss the shield resist boost. Resb fleet shields provide a satisfactory resist

As for where to get dem3, ask in general chat on esd. The community will help you out

I would help ya myself but I only have sci and tacticals.

    Happy hunting

Can't an engie train my boff for me? Tried this earlier tonight but alas it failed. Not sure why.Anyways, if anyone wants to train my boff for ec just pm me in game.

No worries. Have changed my skill tree to reflect what you suggested as well. No longer using Maco, finally benefiting from the leech. Will eventually get fleet shield but for time being using Borg XII shield. Again, thanks for your help.

Hmm. I may have to try EPtE then because double EPtS seems wasteful to me lately ... which may be a good thing :P
