As discussed on last night's podcast, I have a proposal for collaborative series for the community. This process of creating a Hirogen character got me thinking. Sure, I've got a Hirogen with armor, weapons and a ship, but there's no story content to fit the character. So why don't we make some!
I think there could be an opportunity for us as a community to make some storylines for what you could call "minor faction" races that you can create in the character creator that have ships associated with them, but no story missions specifically tailored to them.
-Hirogen - Ships available and can make them in the character creator.
-Ferengi - we have Marauders and Fed players can make Ferengi.
-Cardassians - Galor class is available and we can make passable Cardassians in the character creator
-Romulan Empire/Tal Shiar - Obviously any bog standard Romulan. Everyone can get the Tal Shiar uniform through the storyline. There are the Tal Shiar borgified ships, but they fly standard warbirds as well.
-Time Travelers - Temporal Ships and Temporal Uniforms are available for all factions.
-Mirror Universe - The cheapest of all lockbox ships. The uniforms are also easy to create. The ones in Cryptic missions are just a steel grey version of the standard Starfleet uniforms.
-Freighter Captains - I've heard people request a civilian faction, well we could do a civilian storyline for folks with Tuffli's or Suliban cell ships.
-Dominion - Ships available, plus you can create vorta and passable, though not great Jem'Hadar.
That's just lockboxes, there are some within the main factions as well like Vulcans with their D'Kyr, Andorians with the Kumari. On the KDF side Orions and Gorn I believe have their own ships. And indeed the Remans. To my mind the Remans don't have an independant storyline and one could definitely be created, whether its something like joining with Obisek's faction or going rogue or who knows what.
I'm putting this out there to the community that this is something I think would be cool to do collaboratively. Get some folks together and create a Hirogen storyline (which I'm already working on BTW), a Cardassian Storyline, etc etc akin to what we did with Purity, but with each group of interested authors deciding what they wanted to do.
This thread is to gauge the interest level and try to connect authors who have an interest in these minor races, so they can get together and decide from there how to proceed.
Interesting concept, I've been toying with some Cardassian themed content but never got far with the idea
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
Essentially it is the story of how this Hirogen made it from the Delta Quadrant to where he is now, being allied-ish with the Romulan Republic and KDF. Obviously would have to ask players to use their imagination a bit and say "If you choose, in your head, this can replace the origin story you had before."
If there are other interested authors we could each take one of those missions and duplicate each and rewrite a bit so the series is available for folks with Hirogen ships on either faction. We could title it "[Hirogen] Mission Title" so it'd be easy to find. Maybe we could also get Captain Smirk to help us out, maybe let us do a guest blog or something like that.
I was looking at some of the Detapa council events in the Pat to 2409, i'm sure i could pull some useful data in that to form a mission involving a cardassian Gul working with their chosen faction, maybe even gaining dual citizenship ?
We even have the doff assignment chain that gives us a Gul as a doff, so theres canoically appropriate cardassian starfleet cooperation

Well the way I sort of envision it, these would be niche products aimed specifically at people who want to RP as these minor factions. So using my example its a mission series for people who like me have made hirogen-looking characters and have the ships and want the opportunity to play stories meant for that species. Same thing with a Cardassian series aimed at players who want to RP as Cardassians, etc etc.
So these are very much tailored to specific audiences. Obviously you're going to have people who won't "get it" and will leave reviews like "This mission doesn't make any sense for my Pakled, 1 star!!!" but that's sort of cost of doing business since you can't restrict entry.
Do we have an Obisek NPC in the foundry by the way? Could be cool to expand on the events of his group and his aliegance with the Unionificationists

Oooh, i'll keep an eye out for that, I like playing my characters opposite number , Also an excuse to get my Terran empire Ship material on again

I just played a mission by Hauriant that took place in the MU with you playing as your counterpart. He might be interested in doing more. I don't think he stops by here much I'll mention it to him next time I see him in the StarbaseUGC chatroom.

I have a Mirror series I made back in 2011 "Mirror Wars 1 - 6"... now it was made back in 2011 and hasn't been touched since.. so... brace yourself for errors.

I like the idea of using the foundry to tell minor faction stories. When I create a new character, I usually pick the species based on the kind of back story I could tell. The glimpse of the Remans really got my imagination going.
I've been working on telling the story of a group of Remans directed by Obisek. The first one is still in the "needs 5 reviewers" stage. It's called Reman Dilithium Run.
I'd love to play other missions that suggest I use a specific character, so certainly run with this idea!
"Crewman, your resume says you are telepathic. Then could you please explain to me why you failed in your attempt to confiscate contraband from the crew?!"
I would suggest wrapping it in a holodeck adventure or some other story telling device.

Cool idea and certainly worth doing. 3 months back I did have a plan for an arc around the Dominion which I've not cut into just one story as I don't really want to commit to such a large project. To me, the Dominion and all those minor GQ races have a lot of potential.
Basically I thought it was odd we never saw much of the gamma Quadrant despite it being affirmed by reference that New Bajor had been re-established. If we have New Bajor, then the Federation has a presence in the Gamma Quadrant. And if our foot hold ext endings there, maybe a weakened post-war Dominion had trouble with all those races they had conquered.
The gist of the broad idea had set out the following events after the end of DS9;
-Domion forced back into GQ, rights of allies to explore re-establish colonies destroyed by Dom affirmed.
-With Dominion running in retreat and AQ militaries setting up shop nearby, Dominion servant worlds see chance for an uprising.
-AQ allies try and stay out, but Fed feel pressure to intervene and brinkmanship with Dominion over their violence against the rebels increases.
-Dom give in to (possibly empty) threat of renewed war and come to negotiation table. Make treaty with allies to allow independence of those worlds closest to wormhole. Others are sacrificed to Dominion rule to avoid war.
-Treaty between allies state no border changes without consent of all.
-Klingons loose access to GQ due to war with Fed. Internal Romulan troubles cause withdraw of ambassador.
-With allies gone and unable to object, liberated worlds begin to accede to Federation.
-Dominion engages in cold war tactics to undermine accession process, they see it as territorial expansion towards their borders and within their traditional sphere of influence. Frequent shooting matches begin across Dominion border, but neither side are willing to let it become an official war.
-Romulan Republic send ambassador, they sneak Klingon Ambassador through wormhole. Their objections cause collapse of accession talks and independent worlds form a local alliance modelled after the Federation to defend their new common border.
I like the sound of that isthisscience. Imagine taking those ideas and writing the missions from the perspective of a Dominion officer, then you can say to players "Do you have a Dominion ship with a Dominion crew? Tired of taking orders from the Feds or the Klinks? Well play these missions and you can finally feel like a part of the Dominion." Personally I've got a JHAS with a Vorta-looking gal flying it, I'd love to have a storyline for her to RP.
I am working on something called "Point of View: Shadow" which basically has you taking on the role of an operative of the Tal Shair or Elachi... basically you're following the orders of Hakeev and assist in the abduction of colonies/starship crews etc.

Is the above what you have in mine?
Pretty much. When LoR first came out there were a bunch of threads by people saying they wanted to play as the Tal Shiar rather than the Republic. I kept saying "well make a foundry mission then!"

How is the general STO population going to take that?

I can imagine this scenario.
"Omgz I'm not a -insert species- noobs."
Unfortunately no, could try and recreate him though. We do have Sela and Hakeev.

BTW I just played a fun Reman mission by Stolu called Reman Dilithium Run. It's a bit rough on the edges but the story is definitely there.
