Expertise woes

As a recently returned player (not really played sto since the breen episode) I've gotten heavily into the game again and have enjoyed it so far. I got a couple of my old characters situated into the rep system and have run into a bit of a snag as they approach the tier 3 areas. I am running out of expertise. I'm on a bit of a limited gaming schedule and i play when I can. I do my dil dailies and such, and rerun a few missions but they aren't enough to fill the sinkhole that is the rep system. I've heard people vaguely say "doff missions" and leave it at that. I send my guys out all the time, though what they bring back is hardly a scratch on the wall. I assume it's because most of my mission categories are only like level 1 or so, and it all goes painfully slow. Faced with such a daunting need for expertise, is there any way to gain it at a reasonable rate?

I know someone will chime in with a comment about "instant gratification" save it. I don't want instant gratification, just a way to maximize the free time I have to play the game. Or someone will go on about how they have millions of unspent expertise. That's wonderful and all, but isn't very helpful ultimately.

Depending on when you left and what you have done.... a 'from scratch' character that does the entire set of missions will earn roughly 500-600k expertise, maybe more. That is enough for the rep system and training your officers, but if you gave away tons to your starbase in the past, you will be in a bind.

My advice is to seek out missions you have not done, perhaps the breen or borg chains, dyson, etc. I think the first time you do a mission you get a bonus, repeats, less. If you burned it all out in donations and have done everything, you just have to grind it somehow.

yeah the romulan I am playing now is from scratch, so did all of the episodes leading to the dyson stuff. A shame if I have to repeat that over again. Just wish there was a way to earn the expertise without just treading old content. Ah well, appreciate the reply, guess it's back tot he grind.

Try foundry missions, a number are simple destroy missions which while lacking content do present a decent amount of EXP for ship kills. Bare in mind that there is an EXP cap on foundry missions from NPC kills so you may only be able to do it once a day per char but if you pick the right mission that has been granted to give extra rewards it should help. There is also a foundry spotlight mission called One Too Many (I think) that is pretty quick but gives and gets you your rewards.

It is a pitty that the mirror universe mission was removed as that was a surefire way for new chars and small fleets to get EXP in large quantities fast.

I am confused.... did you do *everything* or just level to 50 then hit the dyson sphere? That is, did you do the borg quests, breen quests, ds9/jem h series, etc? Those are worth a lot, and for time to expertise earned, probably your best bet even if you are tired of them.

Mirror was not removed, it will come around on a weekend new event calendar thingy eventually. But its not something you can do daily anymore, plan ahead.

In fact, those are the only episodes that are worthy, for real. And the Reman set.. and thats it. But the equipment you can get in those episodes is great, not as good as the rep one, but sure a lot better than a purple mk XII item.

But i dont get it, if he says that he played til the dyson sphere season.. he should have A LOT of experience to start with.. dude where did you throw your experience points?? lol. Actually experience is the most easy resource to gather, i ended with more than 1 million just before i even started the rep projects. And now i have more than 4 milllion... and i didnt do anything special to gather experience points lol. Just playing the game..

I only have issues with Expertise when I'm just grinding the rep and not really playing content. It doesn't take much content being played to keep up with one reputation. Generally you will earn what you need concurrently with the marks. Where I run into most problems is if I'm blasting through Romulan rep doing nothing but Epohh tagging which gives almost no Expertise. I then have a rep draining Exp and giving none back.

The Mirror Event was indeed a great way to top off your tank, I would have my younger alts just hammer it for the whole hour. Hopefully they get that remastered and back in the game somehow. Something like Crystalline Catastrophe where it becomes a queue you can access at any time on a 30 minute CD would be great.

Nope I did them all, especially the cardassian one multiple times for the jem'hadar set when I hit vice admiral.
