Greeting,
Allow me short intro myself; I'm Ray and deaf Star Trek fan, I not often play STO until few days ago thanks to 4th years of STO and I admit I'm still newbie, but I'm curious about STO's guild system known as fleets. Although I'm often solo, but I like to join casual fleet but I want to know is any advantages to be fleet member? I think I not will be lot active myself but I like to play STO just for fun. Oh yeah.. my character is only level 15. currently doing daily Q quest. I love space battle but I not good at ground battle though.
Anyhow, since I'm deaf, so please no voice comm. requirement for fleet. I understand it might help for most peoples for like as raid or something like that but not me. I also prefer PvE, not PvP nor RP.
And no mandatory jobs/tasks but I like to help fleet if I have time but not often, sorry about it.
I hope it is good for me for fleet, I know it is not much for me in your fleet, but I'm too nice.
Thanks for your time to read my post,
Ray

Right now don't join a fleet that has donation requirements, you would be better served just running the missions and learning/enjoying the game right now.
If there is anyway I can help just send me an in game mail @natorepublic.
There are several benefits to being in a fleet. One, you are not alone :P There are people that are willing to drop what they are doing and help you out. Another is access to ships and equipment that can only be bought from a fleet store. Last, there are the fleet projects that everyone can take pride in.
Come see our fleet website, New Legacy Guild , for more information about us.

Plus as @texasborn say, you have "services" when you are in a fleet, and no matter the level your character is.
Which I call a "service"?
- Tranwarp gate to several sectors
- Option to move to other sectors using shuttle starbase
- Special missions to get free duty officers
- store to buy special items, bridge officers,
duty officers, commodities at low cost
If you have a not level 50 character then some items MK X+
are restricted, but not the duty officers and bridge officers.
Every facility has a bank and mail. Exchange only in others.
In our fleet we use voice comm software but is not mandatory,
and we always use the chat and conversation don't use both
channels at same time.
We have a website sedf.guildportal.com.
If you don't join yet a fleet, I invite you to spend some days
with us and later you can decide to stay or go.

and.. Umm.. how I use in-game mail to you guys? Sorry about it! *blush* I did not use that.
once again Thanks,
Ray
You only have 2 tabs, Inbox and Compose.
Compose work in this way:
- If the player is online, writing the first letters the system will list online characters(players).
(also work in chat and for private messages)
- Always you can write a in-game mail if have the full name or replying one mail from inbox.
- Also the system accept a in-game mail if you use only the "@user".
Thats how you can contact any of us inside the game. Our names are the username, in my case "woodcat5" you have to compose a in-game mail to "@woodcat5".
In this type of game the players teach each other and new ones, fill free to ask if don't know something. Always someone will answer, in the chat or by PM (private message).
To email me ingame, my @handle is @texasborn.
