Cryptic/PWE, we need to talk...

silverrain79silverrain79 Member Posts: 98 Arc User
There are some serious issues with this game... And I know the new Exec Prod says he's going to address some of them, but I feel the need to throw in my 2cents. So, strap on your seat belt and here we go...

Bugs, so many bugs. I know bugs are a part of MMO's, but for the love of all that's holy you all ignore so many of them. Bugs that break the illusion and ruin the immersion of this game. I have Romulan Embassy Boffs on my bridges missing body parts from Season 6 that you all have never acknowledged or addressed. One of them is just a floating pair of eyes and ears. And don't even get me started on the lagfest that happens when your game engine gets overloaded with spam. In certain maps/instances this game comes to a painful grinding halt. I may not have a top of the line/state of the art system... But it ain't no piece of TRIBBLE either. The entire game needs an overhaul.

And speaking of "mechanics", let's talk about Romulan Tactical Captains flying Scimitars... What the hell is that all about? A Dreadnaught with a Commander Tactical station (effectively running 2 command level tactical buffs) that can also run Aux2Bat in the hands a Romulan with plasma damage bonuses AND battle cloak. Sweet Jesus. We know they can hit 50k dps. Fifty Thousand. That's ridiculous, there's nothing in the game that can stand up to that for more than a few seconds... And a full team of Scimitars? ISE runs just over a minute long? Why? Where's the fun in that? Running virtualy identical setups on my Rom Tac/Scimitar and my Fed Eng/Fleet Assault Cruiser the difference is staggaring. The DPS gap needs to be fixed. And yes, I understand that a Fed Tac captain could do better. But I've yet to personally see a Fed Tac FAC hit 30k dps, let alone 50k... And that still doesn't address the issue that Fed/Klingon Sci's and Engineers are virtually useless now. Something needs to be done.

And while we're talking about STFs... There is no such thing as Elite in this game. Aside from NWS, no STF gives a challenge. 3min HOSE/KASE runs... 2min CSE/ISE runs... Not even ITH is a challenge with the new Dyson rep ground passives. Stop nerfing Elite content b/c noobs don't know how to improve thier game/work in teams. Clearly they need to reacquaint themselves with the definition of the word "Elite". And stop giving us crazy passives and buffs if you're not going to give us harder content to go with it. I can not remember the last time I found an STF, let alone any PvE content, fun or challenging. Even NWS is kind of boring... I have the accolade on 2 toons, will prob get it on the other 2 just for giggles. That map at least requires specific setups and for people to know their positions, but once you have that down the only challenge is finding a decent team. If there was some randomization to enemy spawn that might help a bit... Shake things up a bit, have Donatra suddenly warp in/warp out in the middle of CSE. That would make a Kang guard necessary again. lol

I thought about PvP, but I'm just not into that... It's not why i'm here. I'm here for Trek. And this game hasn't felt very Trek since Season 6. This game has also become monotonous and boring. The only reason I haven't abandoned ship and moved on is the relationships I've created with my friends and fleetmates. And my love for Trek, what little there is of it left in this game... I was a little surprised by the variance in the replays of "A Step Between Stars". That gives me a tiny little glimmer of hope... And Tuvok was a nice touch. But the grind? Stop it. Freaking stop it. 4 reputations, one of which works differently than the other 3... The Sponsorship Tokens make it less irritating to roll a new toon... But for new players? I always stayed away from MMO's, wasn't interested in them. Until I heard about STO. But I was leary... I'd heard of the grind that MMO's made their players do. However after reading reviews and talking to friends I decided to give it a try, it is my only MMO. But now? If I'd started the game now with the grind to VA then T5 Omega/Romulan/Nukara/Dyson... I'd have stopped playing. And all the extra grinding... Can't. Won't. I got excited about the Dyson ships when I first heard their leaked stats... Then you came out with the event. I have to grind the free ship, which only has 9 consoles... Then I have to buy the Zen store pack... Or I don't get the 4pc set bonus? Nope, not interested. It was a good effort to make Science Ships viable again, and I'll prob get the Zen store versions for my Fed Sci and my Romulan Sci (if/when I roll him) but I'm not grinding your event. Burnt the eff out. Done. And it's not just me, we've lost so many fleet members and friends in our group over the last 2 seasons... You say there's 16k+ fleets? How many of those are 1/2 players, or stuck at tier 3/4, or completely inactive?

Delirium Tremens has survived and continued to grow, albeit slower and slower as experienced players either find fleets and settle down or leave the game and new players are fewer and far between. We made it through the FC/Dil nerfs, botched launches, and the normal MMO drama. We have a good small group of active players in our fleet, people I've gotten to know and care about. That's the only thing keeping me here... And I fear that soon that won't even be enough.

I don't know if this post will do any good, I can already hear the trolls scratching at the door... But maybe, just maybe, this will reach someone... And with Stahl gone... Who knows. I know it's a business, and there are business models to follow, MMO's don't last forever, and you can't please everyone... But Trek has endured for decades, has touched the lives of several generations, and these are my thoughts as a life long lover of all things Trek.

Shields up, battle stations!

    In your own words

"I don't know if this post will do any good" Believe me it will not do any good. This last event proved it.

That wall of text is almost the size of a door...

If you have this many issues with the game... You just made the door. Walk through it.

It's hard not to be cynical, giving past experience and theres no reason to be dismissive.

Main thing is to keep expressing an opinion as respectfully as possible and keep your fingers crossed that, at one point, someone decides that player opinions are something that might put game metrics into context.

I love this game but I have been drastically pulling back play time. One reason is that I have already put too much time in - min 3500 hrs. But the biggest reason is that so many friends have left. My fleet has become a ghost town and another of the most actives is leaving the game for a new life adventure in the spring. But this is the nature of online games I guess. I will continue to log on here and there and do the thing I love the most - doffing - but I don't have much use for the rest. For new players, however, the is a massive amount to do compared to before. In the end - it's just a game.

Who is Ryan? And by the way read the 100s pages of the topic about the event to see why I am cynical.

the Cynicism is well earned on Cryptic's part. They have lied since they very beginning, they have frequently overhyped content as more than it really was, they constantly release things half finished and never touch them again, and they are constantly shorting the players and fans whenever it suits them.

They have yet to really fix the oversized any thing, despite people wanting reasonably scaled bridges or interiors. they still haven't made the Liberated Borg skins full body, even though you have to buy an LTS to play as a borg. The only small craft interior is big enough to fit most small craft into. Even their "New and Improved" Federation interiors are still ridiculously oversized. The entirety of Legacy of Romulus was not what they advertised.

They've proven time and again, that they're just in it for the money, and have even said as much. More people need to be getting upset at how this game is being handled, because they're not just ruining their company's already terrible reputation, or their own game, but they're also dragging Star Trek through the mud with them.

Yeah well you just listed a bunch of costume and bridge pack issues that a lot of players actually don't care about.

And a lot of players do care about those issues. There's no reason to dismiss the concerns of one group over another simply because you have no problem.

"A lot" is a subjective term and more than a few people have made unanswered comments and requests on. I think that is Wraithshadow's point. Unless it makes the game unplayable. It may take years to ever be fixed. I assume because it is harder to justify the repairs on a budget sheet.

But I do not drop this blame soley at the feet of Cryptic and their employees.
I do not know the managerial controls PWE is putting on them or the monetization requirements. Let alone the continuing license with CBS. So just saying they are being greedy is a cheapshot. We do not know why things are not addressed. If there was some comment on it, I think some of the frustration would fade.

Agreed, some aggressive bug-fixing would be nice. Not likely to happen, as bugs fall below upcoming content in terms of priority. They deal with bugs if they're truly game-breaking, or when they've got spare time.
And speaking of "mechanics", let's talk about Romulan Tactical Captains flying Scimitars... What the hell is that all about? And that still doesn't address the issue that Fed/Klingon Sci's and Engineers are virtually useless now. Something needs to be done.

One thing's for certain, they aren't going to change the stats of ships that have been out for months. The last thing Cryptic wants to do is to change the effectiveness of ships so directly, lest players feel defrauded. Is the Scimitar unbalanced? Yeah. Did it make Cryptic a lot of money? Most likely. That's the reason they put it in.
And while we're talking about STFs... There is no such thing as Elite in this game. Aside from NWS, no STF gives a challenge. 3min HOSE/KASE runs... 2min CSE/ISE runs... Agreed, the STFs aren't difficult enough. There are even ways of making 'em more challenging and interesting without alienating the players who don't dish out epic amounts of damage.

Well, you're really holding yourself back here. Expecting the player-vs-environment content to remain interesting beyond the first 10-20 times you run it is unrealistic. That's about 1-2 weeks of daily play. Lemme ask you this: Have you tried PvP? I mean beyond 1-2 excursions into Arena pugs, which aren't a real good example of what PvP can be. PvP's like the gift that keeps on giving. Even when you're a top-notch PvPer, there's always someone who's as good as you or nearly as good, and therefore is always a challenge to fight. If you've got the system for it, 10v10 private matches in space are awesome. I strongly recommend you give PvP a chance, if you're looking for something new and more difficult than the PvE content this game provides. I recommend trying the Tyler Durden channel if you want a taste of good PvP. [/QUOTE]

Oh I know, we've done it all. We're at the point where we pug elites just make it even remotely challenging, and it's not. Unless I'm on my Fed Sci and pugging by myself. Then it can be a challenge b/c I'm flying a 10/12k dps Chel Grett instead of a 16k Fed FAC or 20k RomTac Scimi. I haven't even finished the Scimitar and I'm already skirting 20k dps. I haven't gone full boar and bought a set of rom plasma beams and a Marion doff.

The PvE content was fine until we started out dps'ing everything in them. I remember a time when we used to get a thrill out of just beating a timer... Or making good time. Now it's like... "Oh, we did a 3min run in CSE. Woopty Frick'n Doo." I'm sure I am missing out, and I will probably eventually venture into PvP. I go to Kerrat from time to time but it seems there aren't a lot of Klingons there to battle. I either find a horde who gang up on me or a few weak stragglers I feel like I'm bullying if they fight me. The few excursions I've had into the PvP queue were okay, but I've ran into that premade phenomenon I keep hearing about from time to time. My Rom Tac was supposed to be my pvp toon but I decided to make one of these OMGWTF Scimitar builds to see how exactly they worked and how my gameplay experience was. I still have one toon slot and an unfinished Klingon. I'll prob delete the Klingon or maybe finish him so he can grind contraband for my fed toons. Meh.

Well, and then my Fleet Founder brought up a good point... There's little to no explanation of anything in this game. I didn't know anything about the doff system, had none equipped, for prob the first several weeks I played the game. If I hadn't joined a fleet (accidentally, long story) and finally asked for help... I'd probably had quit the game then. I was getting so frustrated b/c I wasn't doing any damage and I'd blow up if a Cube even looked in my general direction... There needs to be some kind of library system or more detailed tool tips... Something to better inform players about vital systems and mechanics, boff powers, etc.
