I was thinking, being that the next direction we are going is the Delta Quadrant.. What if the next expansion and playable faction is the Voth them selves. Think about it, they have a similar story situation as the romulans, split, one group that is for and one group that is against doctrine. Just saying, its not impossible they could go this direction....
From the sounds of it, Expansion 2.0 is going to Expand their Wallets - Geko will likely (and graciously) allow us to pay per pixel for the resolution we want to play at...

"I am a travelor of both time and space to be where I have been"
I hope not. These last to FEs are great and all, but they're very formulaic. We go somewhere, meet a Special Guest Star, and fly the Ship of the Week, which we are supposed to grind for or buy.
The Romulan story was great, but I don't want to see that becoming a formula for factions.
Personally, I would be okay if there were no new factions. We already have the big ones: Feds, Klingons, and Romulans. Those are traditionally the big players in Star Trek, especially in Star Trek video games. I probably wouldn't complain if they did add a new faction, but I would prefer to see more new content for the existing three.
the borg lol. but that would be lots of work being none of the quest or episodes wold work for that race. but you hit the nail on the head the next expansion and story will be delta.
You know, any faction ships that have been out in lock boxes will not be out as a playable faction.
The rage from those who spent a fortune on keys to get those ships, to suddenly find out anyone can just level a character for the same ship(s). So think of all boxes and what has been in them - then lose all hope for those factions :P
I can suggest, as these do not have a lock box, or perhaps these. Would make for interesting game play either way
This. Besides the fact more people are likely wanting to play as Cardassian/Dominion over the Voth. I know I have no interest in creating a Voth character.
"Next Expansion" doesn't mean "Next Faction" .... there is lots of talk about the next Expansion (End of 2014) while the official statement seems to be "No current plans on New Faction") => 1+1 = 2 :P
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
I'd prefer what someone suggested here a few weeks back: an Independent Trading Consortium to be set up, headed by the Ferengi, then we can finally have Ferenginaar put on the Galactic map where it belongs. Chuck the Suliban and Cardies in as playable races and we're set.
At some point, they need to spend an episode or an expansion on the social/homeworlds.
The Klingons could use at least one more groundside planet, and Vulcan and Andoria could use a once over. Would not mind seeing more of San Francisco on Earth, either.
I'm not a huge KDF fan, but I do like the expansiveness of First City, and the groundside on Defera feels about right, too.
considering the direction of the voth so far, the content and storyline that cryptic has created about them, plus they are enemies and that there are traitors serving elsewhere. i can't see any reason not to see voth playable. but as a faction, i dont see that happening, all this idea about doctrine wont go down well with the community i would of thought.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I can't believe no one here has considered the too-obvious premise for the next expansion, especially considering the hints dropped in "A Step Between Stars", particularly its final cutscene.
It is strongly hinted that the Feds and Klingons may be ending their war, in response to the renewed Undine threat. But going back to the original STO Undine storyline, who was it that turned out to have sicced the Undine upon the Alpha Quadrant in the first place? Hints: It's the same thing that's behind the Solanae and their Dyson Sphere (the basis for Season 8) and the Tal Shiar and Elachi (see Legacy of Romulus).
Until now, they have operated strictly behind the scenes, manipulating all the in-game factions (playable and otherwise) to turn against one another, particularly through the Undine. But now that the two big ones - the Federation and Klingons - are on the verge of uniting against the Undine, all their plans are now in serious jeopardy, so now a direct confrontation may be in order.
Last, but certainly not least, the other night I sent a happy-anniversary tweet to STO with the half-kidding question of why the in-game year is still 2409 and not 2413. I actually got a response from them: "2410 could be coming soon!" If this is to be believed, major changes to the STO landscape are already afoot.
I could even see this happening in Season 9, but given what a major turning point in the STO storyline it would be, it seems more worthy of a full-fledged expansion. My prediction for the next expansion is that it will finally be the long-awaited big reveal of the Iconians, in all their (literally) game-changing splendor.
I still say season 9 - legacy of laziness, the season that ends space travel and everyone has access to everything from the space hud and menus, game seems to be going in that direction. now we can change ships anywhere, next will be cloths, then bank, then all mission stuff, then everything else, can just park the ship someplace and do everything without having to move.
As far as the voth as playable, mehh, doubt it, for the same reason we won't see dominion or cardassian, because their stuff was already picked over to do lock boxes.
I'm willing to bet the new expansion will ad a smattering of mew sector blocks that are heavily focused around some sort of new gameplay element and several new missions.
I'm hoping its going to be the long asked for exploration content.

Just saying..
At least I hope so.

I'd be even happier with an Alpha, Beta, and Gamma quadrant expansion to go along with it.
Perhaps even the removal of the sector walls?

Next Lockbox is almost certainly Undine, just as Season 9 is almost certainly going to have Undine-related content.
The Borg should never have a Lockbox. Ever.
They've been talking about going to an open star map for years now. I'd love to see it happen, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
Keep calm, and continue firing photon torpedoes.
If you find the next expansion is playable Voth, I suggest you enjoy it as much as you can...at least until you wake up.
