Twin photon torpedo launcher

steveob1982steveob1982 Member Posts: 9 Arc User
Really hoping this is something you can add in the near future as I would love to be able to equip a twin photon launcher to my sovereign(and other) class ships just like the enterprise had in nemesis!

Fingers crossed!

Would be interesting, but honestly, that's what High Yield is for.

That is true but still matching up a twin launcher with high yield. It definitely raises an eyebrow in Spock style!

That actually sounds to me like a good thing to include on the next c-store ship. :)

That would be pretty neat, even if it were just a visual thing, similar to Quad cannons.

a single launcher that fires two of the same type of torp is whaty our asking for, correct? it would be nice, but i think they would have to have a narrower firing arc to balance it out...

I was thinking more something along the lines of the dual phaser canon set up but for photon torpedos, if memory service me, the enterprise-e had a pair of launchers just underneath the main deflector dish in nemesis, would be pretty cool to have them on board I think

yes, and dual cannons have a smaller firing arc than normal canons to make up for the higher power. so the same would have to be for the torp launcher as well to balance it out.

Or you could equip two launchers.

It may be something that we get, but it will then do less than twice what a regular launcher does with a longer recharge time to balance things out.

Just find a bigger torpedo launcher (or use high yield). Same basic effect.

Personally, I think that the less they use Nemesis (or pretty much any of the TNG movies, but especially Nemesis) for inspiration, the better.

You could equip 2 launchers, or a twin launcher an a normal launcher an have 3 torpedoes available all the time, was kinda going for the idea of it being 2 full powered photons fired in 1 shot with out the need of any power ups

They should make a dual photon launcher console for the Refit Excelsiors, they have two visible torpedo launch bays on the neck of the ship that arent used for anything.....

Excelsiors have transwarp anyway, so we dont need a transwarp console.....

This stems from the same misunderstanding that makes people talk about having 72 disruptor banks on the Scimitar.

Beam array in STO =/= beam array in canon. It's a matter of gameplay simplifying things and terminology being slightly confused as a result. In canonical terms, what we call a beam array or a photon torpedo launcher in STO is actually several different ones. You'll notice, if you look carefully, that the same weapon will fire from multiple different hardpoints. So presumably, both of those launchers exist; they're just not firing torpedoes at the same time, but rather alternating.

It could work similarly to the Omega Rep Plasma torpedoes, where it uses the Charges mechanic, but limited to 2 instead of 5.

They should let us fire all equipped torps at the same time, like energy weapons...

They could do this similarly to the Omega Torpedo, where instead of firing five, you are limited to two torpedoes.

Of course, there would have to be a sacrifice in torpedo damage so it would remain balanced.

I can see a potential niche for a 45-degree dual torpedo weapon with higher raw damage. It might be enough to make at least quantums viable for escorts again. Though if this happened I'd also like to see single torpedo arcs bumped up slightly, to between 100 and 120 degrees. Not enough to step on the 180 quant's toes but enough to give singles to be equipped on slower ships over duals.

better yet have torps on entirely different slots. like they should have been from day 1.

In my opinion, it would work if they added a twin torpedo launcher which worked via a combined fire attack with a smaller firing arc. It'd be the torpedo equivalent of dual cannons. Lower firing arc makes up for somewhat increased damage dealing capability.

Due to how torpedo launcher hardpoints are set up on many ships, however, it may only be able to be used on a few unless they can work something out with that.

Only TNG movie they should use if First Contact and they have used that with the borg queen and Spheres

Given the propensity for them to nerf the fecal matter out of torps in this game..... I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing one.

There is some really good idea's about this, when I posted this I was just hoping to be able to fire 2 photons in quick succession with out the need to use the high yield power up ( bit greedy of me I know).

True that may be, but it did provoke discussion and promote ideas. Which led to this.
