Fatal Error Help!

I was getting this intermittent Graphics error that would not allow me to get past the Legacy of Romulus loading screen on start up. But I would exit the game report the error with the Cryptic auto-error and log into the game on the second try.

However, this evening it is constant and I cannot get into the game and the following error message pops up...

"Fatal Error: Direct 3D driver returned error code (D3DERR_INVALIDCALL) while resetting the device.

Technical Details: AMD Radeon HD 5450"

The drivers are up to date, Direct X is up to date, I have force verified... Anyone know what is wrong? :(

    This is happening to me with my NVidia GeForce 8200M G video card. Since Friday the 20th it started that up. Before I played the game fine.

    I found I was able to boot into the game over the weekend by using safe mode on the launcher, but now it won't even do that, the video card crashes at the Legacy of Romulus screen and when it recovers all I have is a black screen with the opening music.
    Now a LTS and loving it.
    Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
    I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

    I am having the same problem. Last night Friday the sto game was running fine for a few hours and then started getting fatal error messages with my nvidia graphics card 8200m. However I did a test of the graphics card and it isn't the problem because my ddo client game is working just fine. The problem is with the sto updates.

    My computer keeps crashing with STO. It says draw error and for its a brand new graphics card that plays all my other games but crashes with STO. I can get to the beams in step to the stars but then just get blue screen of death or just freezes. Please fix bug. Cant give me the error as comp restarts. I have GEforce Gtx650

    I even installed a newer version of flashplayer,
    flashplayer 12 to try and resolve problem. Didn't work.

    Could be that the errors are caused by misconfigured files or corrupted files in the updates.

    Going to see if a reformate of the harddrive helps.

    Completed reformating of harddrive. Did manual install of updated flashplayer from 11 to 12. Now doing re-install of sto.

    The problem is on sto end. After doing the full restore and installing the mmo, managed to get to the romulan legacy screen and it went just black screen following a new error code regarding fatal crash 8200m g. So much for staying up 'til 5 am to try and getting it resolved.

    Anybody know how to fix the fatal error with direct X? Games loads up until the Romulan title screen then goes black and crashes. Getting realll fed up with Cryptic..not spending money on a game I cant play.

    I'm done playing the game until they fix this issue. It's constant and I cannot get more than 5 minutes of game play in.

    I've backdated to DirectX 10 and 9 with no effect.

    I've added fans and fan speed to the processors both on the mother board and the video card.

    It's random and 90% of the time happens before even logging into the game now.

    Video monitoring says that the game isn't using 50% of the gpu but it raising the core temperatur from 40 to over 90. Safety shut off is at 100 and it never reasches that temperature.

    There is obviously something STO did when they "fixed" the video problems they were having in the FE that broke the video options throughout the game. Even setting everything to minimum doesn't effect the outcome.

    Sad thing is, even if I quit, I can't give away the unbound things or even my EC to friends.

    Worst part is, STO insists there isn't a problem. So much for pay to play... it's more like pay to not play. Wish everyone the best of luck, but based on Cryptic's customer support in the past, I doubt this issue will be resolved in a short manner.

    Bit of a bumb here but I am having a similar issue. (I would start a new thread but am apparently to much of a noob to be allowed) I get the message:

    Fatal Error: The graphics device or driver has encountered an unrecoverable internal error and must exit. Please restart the application. If the error persists restart the computer.

    I have sent a ticket but thought I'd check here too.

    i had this problem + an other one almost similar. finally after a lot of attempts of "solutions" found over internet; this works fine now.

    my computer is a gamer computer, i had a ati 7700 hd, and with this card i had always this problem. i have downgraded my card; i use now an ati 4500 (lol).

    so, the problem can be the card (but sincerely i doubt because my ati hd7770 works fine with other games), the problem can be the power supply, not enough powerful. it's not a problem with the drivers.

    this is what i have done :

    - i removed the hd 7700
    - i installed a new copy of window
    - i installed the new card; the system must recognize the card
    - i installed the latest drivers for this card

    and now it works

    in my opinion the problem comes from cryptic or from your power supply
