5 minutes wouldn't be so bad. If only it was an account-wide unlock, so it'd stay 5 minutes.
I got 14 characters - about 10 of which see frequent use (one of each type per faction, plus an extra KDF tac). About an hour of the same silly minigames everyday for two weeks gives a whole new meaning to the word monotony.
Haven't decided if and how many of the ship I'll get. Might just skip it, altogether, except for maybe 1 sci and 1 tac. And even that I'm not sure about - all this repetitive stuff, lately... Kinda sours my game experience.
Well, some of us are unemployed and/or broke, so I don't -mind- grinding for an amazing ship that my Fed VA is gonna have a field-day with...course, it may also factor in that I'm a Free/Silver player!
Also, I only have 3 characters(see above), so I'll do just enough to get the free Anniversary model and totally ignore the Lobi version...besides, I don't even know how to GET any more Lobi, outside of Lockboxes, which I rarely get, anyway(see above again), unless I can save a bundle of Dil....
I'm getting it for one of my five toons (my Fed Sci), but that's it. I might still grind "A Step Between Stars" to get the Solanae set for the others, but not the Q silliness. One toon's worth of that is quite enough, than-Q very much.
More moving and hiding of threads that Cryptic doesn't want to acknowledge, I see? Merging in threads that really aren't the same, renaming it, making it harder to find 1800 posts of unflattering comments.

Yeah, they're not doing themselves any favors and it just upsets people even more. It makes them look like they care more about squeezing money out of people rather than giving them a good game they actually want to spend money on. They sweep the best parts of the game under the rug and push people to mindless grinding so that they get so sick of it that they either quit or buy their way past the grind. It's seems this game isn't P2W, but GoP (grind or pay). You can either waste time running the same stale content over and over ad nauseum, or you can pay for it and still have to grind. It seems like they don't know how to make any other kind of game. Cryptic and PWE are compassion-less slime.
It's blatantly stupid to assume that the silver players should be forced to "earn" their fun through hard work because they didn't buy a sub. Turning a game into a job you have to do in order to get to the fun is not a game at all. That's just crappy game design. Games are a form of entertainment. You don't make a game worth paying for by making the free part suck. That's like giving away cars with no brakes and charging for the brakes. They even treat their loyal paying customers like TRIBBLE too. No one is exempted from the grind. It's pure exploitation.
Go here and show your support for a better Foundry!
I mean, it's a cool ship and all, but is it worth 2 weeks of doing the same goofy almost-game over and over? You know they're gonna make a C-store version which is numerically superior, so if you actually WANT that kind of ship and plan to fly it, why wouldn't you just buy the better one instead? And if you don't plan to fly it, why bother having one?

does nobody ever read the sto release news items or for that matter any of the posts in this forum?
3 items of the 4 item set are gained buy playing and replaying the FE the all important 4th item is only available on the rep reward ship, it will not be available at any other time or in any other way.
so if you want to miss out go ahead give the rep ship a miss and buy the c-store set but you will never get the 4th part of the set.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
There was a time when I likely would have jumped all over the chance to get this thing. It's a science ship with a little extra punch and some neat little side features. Offers a choice to captains who might want a warship with a bit more of a science orientation (I have no complaints besides the lack of engineering facilities about my Khyzon YET), or a science vessel that can defend itself more capably in a fight. From what I can see, it is best used with a protonic polaron focus and protonic arsenal (experimental proton weapon and gravi-torpedo) to maximize the output of the proton cannons and other systems. It would make a very efficient counter-Voth vessel.
Having said that, though I VERY much like the appearance of this ship in its Romulan form, I don't really have any need or use for it with either of my captains. My Khyzon, Falchion, and Ar'Kif Carrier all do the job just as well in their roles against the Borg, Voth, and general purpose actions. I might get it, just to have it, but it shouldn't be that high on my priority list. Maybe I'll save the Qmendations for a future thing.
Are people really that enamored by the 4-piece set bonus? As far as I can tell it's basically the same thing that a BFI doff does for you, except it hurts your combat performance while active, it's on a painfully long cooldown, and you have to cripple your ship by loading it down with the Solonae set instead of mixing and matching the best components for your build....
I already have the Rom Dyson Sci DD.... and I find flying it quite entertaining. I've been having fun with it actually. Will probably get the C-store version as well when it comes out. The Metaphasic shield is quite fun in combat. It's like flipping a switch and turning incoming damage into pure heal.... Been getting used it it, as being someone whose rom Normally flies a SCim, whose KDF flies typically either the Obilesk or a Tac Bortasque, and whose Fed flies an Odyssey..... it's fun to fly something that can be quite nimble for a change.... and it would be even more fun when they fix the damn projectile Doffs so they work again.
1- You will run the same reputation missions and instances over and over and over for months to get a few ship/character weapons/equipment, but have an issue with spending TWO MINUTES a day for 15 days to get a Free Epic Ship???
2- Noone is forcing you to do the 15day mini-missions for the Sci Destroyer. Just choose to NOT do it and BUY the c-store version in a few months if that ONE CONSOLE is so important.
To other whiners:
Seriously, how can you complain about things that YOU CHOOSE to take part in. Dont want the ship? Then dont do the mini-missions. Want the ship? Great. 15 days of 2min missions get you an amazing ship that is viable in endgame, has new and special features, looks amazing and is essentially FREE. I'd give it a 2000zen price tag. 15days x2mins = 30mins for a free ship. And, what people seem to forget is that every time you do the mission you can get 480 dilithium, a special item/gear or that cool balloon maker. How can you go wrong???
Its the same as with endgame reputation systems. People say they are "tired of grinding" for the rewards, but YOU CHOOSE to do the rep missions/instances 10x a day every day to get the rewards ASAP. Some, like me, do some of each rep area a day, or do a few days in one, then the next and so on - to keep things fresh and fun.
Then you also have people that say "i dont want to repeat episodes and content 20x its boring". But YOU are the person who CHOSE to create 20 characters instead of just one per faction so you do it to yourself.
None of the above is the game's fault AT ALL. We choose to do what we want, when we want it. Nothing is hidden. We are all well aware of what it takes to get to 50, get rep rewards and/or get the free ships.
Just like we know what STO is all about. If you love it then GREAT!!! If you dont love the game then just LEAVE ALREADY! There are hundreds of great mmorpgs out there - everyone should find one that they love and then they can be happy when they play instead of complaining or comparing or crying about this and that.
Kind of ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as people who continue to RUSH through the games content, dont read missions text/dialog and only are happy in 5% of the game. Thats like buying a burger at a fast food restraunt because you like the taste of lettuce and mayo on a burger bun!! lol Kinda crazy, no?
BE HAPPY! APPRECIATE THIS AMAZING GAMEWORLD WE GET TO PLAY AND ADVENTURE IT!!! Its a neverending game! Soooo much variety and we can make our own adventures in the foundry!!! Plus the development is kicked in high gear and we ahve two full seasons, plus other patches and a 2nd expansion all in this year alone!! I feel we are in STO 2.0 because things are getting bigger and better and the game is where many DREAMED it was at launch.
Either its free, you pay a measly 15/mo for extra privelages and stipend, or you pay 200-300 for lifetime with tons of rewards and bonuses forever. there is NOTHING to complain about unless you like forcing yourself to be unhappy. Sometimes you have to realize that you either play the game wayyyyyyy too much - for too many days a week or too many hours, that you have been playing the game too long and need a break from it, or, that you have lost interest and need to move on(regardless of time or money invested)
Mmmorpgs were made for players to roleplay, have adventures, meet others and HAVE FUN!!! If you arent having fun 99% of the time you are A) not playing the game correctly (scary as it is some have no imagination and dont know what fun is) or the game is not for you.
These things are ALMOST as scary as the fact that there are over 2500 Fleets right now. (new rule, fleets with less than 5 people get merged lol)
I hope you all have an amazing time ingame and find you way back to the happiness you felt when you first played STO or your first mmorpg. I know I have and I wouldnt trade STO for any other game. Salute!

The daily Q mission takes like 3 minutes. So if you want the ship you do it 15 times, for a total of 45 minutes work, plus running the featured episode once, and you get a new ship.
If you don't want the new ship, or it isn't worth 45 minutes of your time (I'm assuming almost everyone is going to run the new episode once just to see the new content) then don't do it.
Im going to grind the mission 6 times total eventually. I see uses for the Deflector and Engine on my 3 Vesta line ships of my 4 Fed toons. Im using the warp core gift from the last FE. Decent gear for the poor man casual STO player like myself who doesnt STF or lockbox or grind for the elite gear in this game.
STO: @AGNT009 Since Dec 2010
Capt. Will Conquest of the U.S.S. Crusader
why are you so angry with the Game ?
it is a FREE Game after all,
and these Ships (Risian Corvette, 2 Breen Ships, Dyson Science Ship)
and they didn?t stop there from time to time they have
"Give Aways"
Don?t forget, REAL people are working on this Game.
and if Perfect World would not have bought it,
Star Trek Online had been shut down.
They give you an opportunity to play this game and don?t have to spend money on it.
YES you have to grind, YES grinding is boring,
but this is the way EVERY single MMORPG works.
if you want something, work for it.
Items that are easily acquired, are worthless
that is how our psychology work.
But if you really spend time on something, you start looking forward to it.
You start to appreciate it, and it is a really good feeling ^_^
----
Now, i am Science Captain, and i noticed that the most complains came
from Tactical and Engineering Captains
Maybe you have a Science Guy lying around somewhere
and from time to time you play him.
But Did you really understand the Science roll ?
not only the Gravity Well / tykens Rift guy ...
i mean the ==> healer, power drainer, Debuffer Roll
I guess not, i say THIS ship has real potential
and it gives as the opportunity to do your actual Science
Roll and with on button click you can switch to a more offensive Roll.
All (pure) Science ships have weak hull strength
(--> somebody complained about it)
We are not supposed to Hull Tank anything
Science Shields are the best of the best, and if you know how
they will never even go down for a second.
We got only 3 Forward and 3 aft weapons, that is limiting your Damage output anyway
this Ship got 4 Forward Weapons.
--> another guy complained "we need more Cruiser and tactical ships"
that is non-sense, and if you would have looked around you know that
this game is drowning in this kinds of ships
The Federation player already got the Vesta Class and many many more,
but ESPECIALLY the Romulans are in desperate NEED this version
and the Science Klingon fall short in Science ships either
Nobody forces you to get this Ship, if you want it just get it
you got a head start with 440 on the very first day of Grinding
I got them all the Risian Corvette, Both Breen Ships (both ships this Winter)
and the Science Ship will be mine shortly
Last year there was a free Odyssey - Class that was hated too
because it was missing the C-Store consoles ...
And the C-Store version isn?t going away if you save your Dilithium
for a while you can buy the C-store version
One guy mentioned his 14 Characters (?? O.o really ??),
(-- i got 3 Character slots, but only 2 are used -- )
so a POTENTIAL over 120.000 Dilithium per Day (i know that is very unrealistic)
but this would is about 800 ZEN per day (just saying)
One more thing
i think Player who are paying on a regular basis
should get more for their Money
on this kind of events,
like --> "step between stars" gives them 200 Q-mentdaitions every
time they play the mission (maybe 24hour cooldown for the Qmendaition)
I mean, it's a cool ship and all, but is it worth 2 weeks of doing the same goofy almost-game over and over? By far not "meh" about the whole event. Its great; the mission is awesome & having Tim Russ as Tuvok just puts the crown on top of this.
The ship itself? Not soo thrilled. I'll get the boxed romulan version since I really like its design. The federation & even more the klingon design are not... that appealing to my personal taste to bother grinding for them.
Maybe in a few months I'll experiment a bit with the romulan one with protonic polarons DHCs & a few of these + polaron & proton dmg consoles from the dyson store and a few setparts from the dyson rep. Maybe I get a good idea on mixing it with two jem-hadar setparts for a bit more polaron dmg...
Shield & Impulse - Jem
Core & Deflector - Sola
proton gun + proton console from d. rep.
engi slots all with fleet neut + turn
sci slot - the proton console, rest fieldgens
tac slots one half pol/prot consoles the other pure pol consoles.
Yeah... I think this can work quite good. A bit off the usual path.
I'm curious (sorry for little side track) but how is it possible for people to get the Dyson ship already? I thought with the daily we have to do it like 15 more times after bonus 400?
I was rather ambivalent about it at first. However, $30 + spare Lobi + extra dilithium and EC allowed me to get Dyson ships for both my Fed and Rom Sci in 2 days. I'm pretty much done with it now.

You can buy your way to the ship by getting the commendation points from the Lobi store, at some utterly laughable cost.
And just for reference, I have no objection to the mission. The mission is great. If we got 400 points each time we ran the mission, I'd be fine with that. Even if it takes more time than standing around watching Q making an idiot of himself, it's playing the game. Just like I don't mind the reputation systems for the most part. Because you finish the reputations by playing the game. And you're rewarded with some really nice gear. In the case of the Dyson ship we're asked to go out of our way for two and a half weeks to do something stupid and nonsensical, all in the name of getting a ship that they have unashamedly already said will be sub-standard to the one you have to buy.

Meh and meh.
I'm just going to highlight the main part of this, as some people still don't get it.
Take the red from the quote and the red from my sig and it is a perfect fit
As for the ship, i might get it for my science romulan because i don't have meny ships that i like on it, but that's it i'm not even touching the 3 pack moneygrab. Did the grind on a few characters but way too boring and way too miffed at what they did, adn as others said no real point in the tactical mode (unless they decide to add proton weapons to the game, some ppl might find it useful then). 'll get the 3 part set from the FE but that's it.
As sad as it is i really hope this tanks so they learn no to pull a stunt like this again in the future. There was no need for gimmicks like this just to show off a ship and get a quick cash flow from it. If they make good things ppl will buy them eventually, this was not needed.
Going to do the FE. Not going to get the ship. Already have a science ship I'm happy with, and if I decide I want to go more tactical again I'll get one of my escorts out. The ability to switch between the two in the fly isn't that interesting.
Also not that interested in the 4 set bonus since I'm never likely to get it anyway.
I mean, it's a cool ship and all, but is it worth 2 weeks of doing the same goofy almost-game over and over? The value of the Dyson ships really depends on the captain class and faction.
As I recall, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, the anniversary Dyson ships have the exclusive Warp Cores. The C-Store ships won't.
Also, the ship caters to TAC & SCI mostly. ENG captains can go in, but they don't synergize as well as TAC & SCI.
Another factor is what faction you play. IMO, if you're Fed, you don't need the Dyson ships as much. The Feds already have a fabulous Science Ship selection of practically all flavors, and a faction Escort with SCI leanings (MVAE/Prometheus, nasty combo today). But for heavy Science play, the field narrows significantly for the KDF and Romulan players with far, far fewer Science options. Unless they invest in the very expensive Temporal Science Vessels, they have nothing similar to how the Dyson ships handle... Cmdr SCI, good maneuverability, having a TAC leaning.
The Cmdr SCI level play, the KDF has the Vo'Quv series, Kar'Fi, and Veranus. The first 2 are carriers and do not have the good handling. The Kar'Fi is a good offensive oriented step and the best handling of any 2 hangared carrier in the game. But it's handling isn't near the Dyson or Temporal Sci Vessels. The Vo'Quv is capable but too slow. The Veranus has a very weak TAC & ENG capability, and is meh on maneuverability, but it is a Cmdr/LtCdr SCI ship. Temporal Science is there, but as mentioned before, very expensive and one of the rarest ships to see anyone use in the KDF.
For Cmdr SCI level play with the Romulans, they just have the Ha'nom series or the very expensive Temporal Science. And that's it.
Again, contrast that KDF & Rom selection to the abundant Fed selections for heavy Science play, the Dyson ships are a much bigger deal for the heavy SCI started KDF & Romulans. The Romulan Dyson ship is even more attractive since it is the only one with a Battle Cloak while the KDF one has standard Cloak.
BTW, you only get the 400 Qmendations on the initial completion of the FE.
well, for my rom sci... this ship is pretty good, played around with it in pvp with some fleeties, while damage wise i wasnt doing much, since im using left overs from other ships, one fleetmate who runs a high dps scimitar was aboslutely angry about the combo of powers i kept using against him.... Grav well 3 + Tachyon Beam 2 + Tractor beam let my teammates kill it pretty damn fast.
So it took what? 24 hours after the event went live for someone to start a thread that's the STO equivalent of how sad they are that they didn't get a pony for Christmas?
I don't mind the grind since I only have 3 toons. For people with many toons it will be a problem and I understand their complaints. What irritates me though is the C-store ship to get the last part of that set.
Tyr shall give me strength! For the glory of Tempus! I am the hands of Shar! Flames of Kossuth, protect me! Oghma, grant me knowledge! Lolth commands, and I obey!
So it took what? 24 hours after the event went live for someone to start a thread that's the STO equivalent of how sad they are that they didn't get a pony for Christmas?
Never change.
More like getting a gift on christmas that has critical missing parts which you get for babysitting your obnoxious younger sibling for two weeks (and you know for a fact that the thing you got is a cheap Chinese copy of what you really wanted).
Not feeling Meh about it at all. So much so in fact that it has encouraged me to not bother logging in as I dont even want to see the travesty that is this years anniversary. Will likely log in my fleeted toons in about a week so they don't get booted for inactivity but thats about it.
I find 5 minutes a day rather fun. breaks up the monotony of RL in my day. And no I'm not going to fly this ship or the c-store ones, I have to finish getting my Aventine and DS9 pack first. THEN we'll see.
The only thing that i don't like is the daily timer on the mini q stuff >.>
Precisely, not sure why people are acting like they have to go through the nine levels of hell. It's one quest that takes about 5 minutes to do (unless for some reason you can't actually see q running to each box, then you might need an eye doctor) I just do the mission after I do whatever other stuff for the day, such as getting dyson commendations or marks. I find the rep grind for that stuff way more dull. however at least the Q party stuff is over quick.
Being really "meh" about this treadmill rubbish would be a drastic improvement for me.
But I am finding it much more tolerable now that I've taken some posted information into account and stopped wasting time on the shell game entirely. They said we get to do "1 of 2 mini-games," so I'm doing the "chase the runner" one and completely ignoring the annoying, senseless "sit and waste enough time to catch 2 runners watching gift boxes move around" one.
I still basically think the whole thing sucks overall, and calling it an "event" is giving it far more credit than it deserves.

It isn't complicated.
(--> somebody complained about it)
We are not supposed to Hull Tank anything
Also not that interested in the 4 set bonus since I'm never likely to get it anyway.
Never change.
For the glory of Tempus!
I am the hands of Shar!
Flames of Kossuth, protect me!
Oghma, grant me knowledge!
Lolth commands, and I obey!
More like getting a gift on christmas that has critical missing parts which you get for babysitting your obnoxious younger sibling for two weeks (and you know for a fact that the thing you got is a cheap Chinese copy of what you really wanted).
Still waiting to be able to use forum titles
Precisely, not sure why people are acting like they have to go through the nine levels of hell. It's one quest that takes about 5 minutes to do (unless for some reason you can't actually see q running to each box, then you might need an eye doctor) I just do the mission after I do whatever other stuff for the day, such as getting dyson commendations or marks. I find the rep grind for that stuff way more dull. however at least the Q party stuff is over quick.
