Star Trek Online on Chrome Os

Hi! I have a Chromebook, specifically the HP 14, and I love this game, but is not available.
Buenom is technically available but is a. Exe and not allowed.
I was wondering if there is any way to install it or if it has announced a release date for Chrome Os.

    I'm pretty sure it wont ever happen..... considering it took them like 3 years just to get to mac, and chromebooks are little more than glorified word processors.

    Dun think chromebook has enough processing power to run STO. Cheap pc notebook cant even handle sto.

    STO is installed onto the computer so its not browser based but I don't think it'll ever come out on Chrome OS unless PWE thing it'll make em money.

    No one is going to convince the developers to rewrite the entire game to work on Chrome OS. Not worth the time/resources/money for the handful of people that fell for buying a Chrome OS "laptop".

    If you wanted to play actual games on a real computer you would not be using Chrome OS.

    Get a cheap PC Laptop or Desktop...problem solved.

    And no, you could not convince the developers who took nearly 4 years to do a Mac beta client that they should rework the entire game into a browser mediocrity like BSGO or waste effort on a client for Chrome.

    Even if STO were a browser-based game - which it will never be as that would require a complete rewrite of all the code - I do not believe a Chromebook has enough processing or graphics ability to play the game even at its lowest settings.
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    Not that I think it *will* happen, but it's not as unlikely as you imply here. Browser based gaming isn't what it used to be, what with Microsoft and other vendors supporting things like WebGL.

    With what PWE is doing with the ARC initiative I think it is safe to say that Cryptic would rewrite the code to go Console before it would browser-based.

    The only thing you can possibly do right now is stream it from one computer to your chrome book. I don't know what apps chrome book has but I have a few on my Galaxy Tab 3 that let me control my computer on it. I can play STO at whatever graphics settings my computer is on BUT, it does lag. I only do Doffing and Rep. I can probably do story missions alone but I haven't tried it yet. Otherwise a chrome book does not really meet the requirements to run STO.

    Steam is coming out with SteamOS sometime this year that will let you stream games on a home network. We'll have to see if it will work with STO. Could be neat.

    Said NO to Arc. Gets punished by not being given a free outfit, free lobi, and free shuttle. Now forced to use Arc's site when trying to get to STO site. Still not rewards for beta testing the Arc website by force. Bravo Cryptic.

    Pretty shocked at some of the responses on this forum (and disappointed by them).

    Some people seem the need to belittle, in order to feel good (Oh my god - what are the ASKING!) <-- an example.

    I have used pretty much every OS and every GFX card, to the overrpriced Titan, and above.

    Some of the high end Chromebooks are more than capable of running the game, YES. Can they? NO. That is all is needed.

    No insults, no comments. The simplicity of help. (Remember what the internet was about?)

    It doesnt matter if I have more money than you and can insult you because of it (or because you feel I should have searched the forum)

    I use my chromebook because its lighting fast, and I dont blame them for asking if it can run STO. Applaud them!

    Chrome OS is build off the Linux kernel and contains GNU packages, untill there is a Linux port then no you cant. Cromebooks do not have the processor, graphics card nor ram to run sto anyway. Dont get me wrong, I love my Samsung chromebook but this thing is for web browsing and watching youtube.

    Yes throw that worthless pos away and buy a real computer. Seriously you actually bought one of those??? For the same money you can get a low end machine that can actually do things besides playing STO. I have an old Aspire 1 net book that even with an atom can run STO price on that was 220 bucks same as a toy chromebook.

    Lol, dude seriously, that is the most ridiculous thing typed in these boards today. Trying to say your x3100 chipset, 1gb RAM piece of trash can run STO. The trashiest Chromebook on the market blows that 9" calculator of your out of the water. My toaster is literally a more powerful computer.

    I think the joke is STO is starting to look like a browswer game... so lets expand the install base to the 1000 people in the world with a chrome book.

    To the op in case you are serious and not just making a trollish joke. ChromeOS isn't supported by WINE or any other good linux windows emulator, Google has simply TRIBBLE the linux kernal up to much for that to happen. If you really really want to run windows games on your chrome book you would want to likely either setup an actual windows dual boot, or run a less TRIBBLE up Linux OS and run WINE.

    I think what people where getting at though is this..
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz or AMD Athlon X2 3800+
    Memory: 1GB RAM
    Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7950 / ATI Radeon X1800 / Intel HD Graphics
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Soundcard
    DirectX: Version 9.0c or Higher

    Those are the min to run STO under windows.. and most chrombooks would be under powered. If you are going to try and run it under some form of windwos emulator if you can find one, its not likely to handle the DirectX proper and be a no go. If that isn't an issue the hardware on a chromebook again isn't exactly optimized for virtualization, so you would likey have to double those min requirements to get anything playable working.

    Having said all that... I am still leaning toward joke post... which is pretty funny. Game gets more and more browswer like every patch. :)

    EDIT oh if this is a well crafted joke... I would also suggest we get this working on PS3 and XboxONE browswers... that would get the install base pumped up.

    This is not true. Chrome OS is by and large Chromium OS. The linux kernel remains mostly intact as well as the GNU packages. It obviously must for it to properly utilize Gentoo's package management system (Porter or Portage or something). What Chrome OS's proprietary layer is mostly for plugins ala Adobe

    The only way I see this working at all is installing Linux, and using remote desktop programs to run on an appropriate machine.

    But even that will only get you so far, you will be able to do doffing, but not much else due to lag.

    I've been able to play in this manner from an android and iOS device, but you won't be able to do much in a timely manner. Again doffing fine, STFs, no way.

    well I do know that STO will load LOAD mind you on a Dell Inspiron e1705. you can even beam into ESD.. but that's about all.
