The first two things I do on any character I create as soon as I am able to do so is...disable camera shake on both Ground and Space.
Camera Shake causes the equivalent of motion sickness...giving me a headache, making me nauseous, and generally putting me in a damn pissy mood.
Lo' and behold my surprise, as during the course of this mission - there is a space battle with camera shake that cannot be disabled. You guys have got to be kidding me...
So I'm typing this out while sitting in the part of the mission just after that, eating some toast, having taken some Excedrin, and getting ready to go for my second smoke.
There has to be a way to disable the camera shake...I figure in a bit, I'll be able to complete the mission on this toon...but there's no chance in Hell that I'm going anywhere near running the mission again on any other toon or to repeat it on this particular toon.
It's a physical assault. It's optional, and I don't feel like playing your game of "Hey dummy, why are you hitting yourself?" Yeah, it will mean missing out on the accolades, missing out on the gear, having to run the daily that much longer and skipping the 400 Qmendations...and yeah, it's got me sitting here giving everybody at Cryptic a pair of fingers - one for them and one for the horse they rode in to work on.
Like I said, camera shake gives me the equivalence of motion sickness...nausea, headache, and puts me in a damn pissy mood.
Camera shake is an abomination. The way these controls are set up is also an abomination. YOu can't just disable camera shake. That only disables it in your CURRENT mode. Turn it off when in space dock? STILL THERE in space! Go into space and turn it off? Well guess what it's still there in aiming mode when in ground combat! Turn that off too? Well there's ANOTHER combination where it's still turned on! FPS mode aiming PLUS aimed still shakes!
And you can't set any of them UNLESS you're in that stupid mode! It really sucks.
I don't get sick from camera shake. I get sick and tired. It pisses me off and makes me want to never play that game again.
/agree, can't stand camera shake. Just makes me ill. And that fight by the surface of the star had so much of it I couldnt tell what the frell was going on half the time. Really frustrating. Thought I had it disabled but who knows...
Oh come on, its Star Trek. Think of all those times of the actors lurching around the bridge set as if something had happened. Seemed (to me at least) that they were trying to specifically evoke that.

I checked as soon as it started happening, thinking that perhaps a setting had changed because of the patch...but it was still set to disabled.
edit: It is odd that it is only that particular battle - there is no issue with any of the other space battles.

That's particularly insensitive. It's not that he doesn't like camera shake, it *makes him physically ill*. Or were you OK with the games a few years back that had stroboscopic effects that caused some players to actually have seizures?
"You Iconians just hung a vacancy sign on your asses and my foot's looking for a room!"

I found it amusing, there was a part were the whole screen was shaking due to the extreme danger. My character was just standing there with his arms behind his back relaxed and like a boss.
I agree. Camera shake needs to be able to be totally turned off. So do out-of-body-experiences, the sudden jerk and now you are looking at the god's eye view from somewhere else barf stuff. And while we are at it, the space fight in the bright sun was also a bit pukey. A+ for the graphics, but F- for the content... reminds me of my boss showing off his high end TV... yes, that is awesome, I surely can see the dirt under the fingernails of that guy about to hike the ball, thanks, can I have a bucket please?
Try chainging your refresh rate, that can help with the motion sickness. I usually dont have that problem, but the original Half Life (before source) makes me want to pass out...I have never to this day played that game because of it. But Descent i had no problem with.
Wow, dude, if *that* sets off your motion sickness, I feel for you. Mine is nowhere near that bad.
No, not motion sick, just saying that awesome, amazing graphics of ... the sun ... is on par with looking at dirty ball players in high def. The artwork is stellar (haha...) but the subject matter could use some work, in other words.
It was a bit pukey fighting with the bright orange backdrop. Up until the fight, it was just orange and, well, orange.
Wow. Ok. I thought it was me. After playing the mission I was fighting a blackout. There have only been a very few games that ever caused that feeling with me. I have played STO for years and never had any trouble. But I will not be doing that again. Cryptic seriously fix that.. What fun is a game/mission that makes you physically sick.
