While we are waiting for the server to be resuscitated, here is a nice video on how to install Arc, and some tips to keep you from running into trouble.

I've seen a lot of negative response to ARC but have not seen anyone give a reason for it. I've looked/searched through the forums etc., but am just not finding what the issue is with ARC.

Could someone explain it to me?
I'm not going to bother to repost everything I posted before so I'll just link you.

There are several reasons, if you go through this super long thread, you can see them for yourself if you can wade through tons of ARC hate.
Basically it boils down to the following:
People just hate it on an emotional level, whether it's a knee jerk reaction to a potential change, PWE hate, ignorance, tinfoil hat conspiracy...you name it. This group hasn't tried and just hates on it for no rational reason. You can find this for just about anything. People will vent for the sake of venting without having any rational basis for their anger/outrage.
It duplicates steam, and the way it function now, is when you launch the game from ARC, it opens up the current launcher. So people rightly ask, "If I just play STO, why would I ever use this?"
It uses 3 processes. The main .exes use a fairly significant amount of ram, much more than Steam does on average.
There is a background process (the overlay) that cannot be terminated while you have an ARC launchd game running. To stop the process, you would have to quit the game (in this case it would be STO).
Cryptic has not given a whole lot of information on ARC and people are in the dark about how it functions. As result, people are deeply suspicious about what it might or might not be doing. Better communication and being more forthcoming with information would greatly help with dispelling a lot of the fear I think.
It's still in Beta and some people, not surprisingly, are having issues, contributing to the outcry.
I think the video I linked sums up ARC quite well.
I just wish they would take all the money they're flushing down the toilet to shill that piece of ****ware and invest it in the actual games.
