Is it a proper FE? Or just another lame way for Cryptic and PWE to market the new ship of the month and force us into whatever new ship will be released into the C-Store (like they did with the Ambassador or the Obelisk)
Or can we actually do FE's with our old ships like the good old days.
As a Star Trek/STO fan it doesn't bother you that you can't even use your own ship which you've invested so much time in on a new mission? And that the whole point of the new mission is that it's just a marketing tool for some new ship they wanna try sell us in the C-Store?

I actually managed to play the new FE once and enjoyed it,before the server crash.
In this FE,your using your current ship, and the new sci/destroyer.
Although once the FE is complete, you go back to your normal ship, and yes its another grind to get the new ship. oh what fun.(Not)
These crashes seem to always happen everytime theres a big new patch.
The servers can't handle it,and i would have thought after all this time, cryptic would have learned by now. but no.

As a Star Trek fan why would that bother anyone? It's not like Star Trek is shy on marketing everything from toilet paper to gold coins.
The FE takes very few minutes. If you're not interested in the ship then do it once for the fun of it and leave it at that. You're not forced to use the ship in the game and you don't need the gear.

Well, actually, no. I use my own ship for everything else. Borg Alerts, Story missions, Foundry stories, craft gathering etc. Sometimes it's pretty nice to play a mission where I don't have to use my ship and employ new strategies with foreign vessels. It's a pretty nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong, I have no plans to swap out the Sierra anytime soon. She's a keeper. But it never hurts to explore other options, even if it's just for a single battle.

You know, many people would actually enjoy playing different ships to add variety. I thought the goal was to make missions with more variety and better quality content.
Yeah I really don't understand the gripe on it. Cryptic is a business and to stay in business they have to sell us stuff. So what if it seems shameless. You don't have to do the content. Using the new ship is fun so try it out and if you don't like it then you know. No harm no foul. There are really a ton of little abilities that make it interesting so before you bash it just try it out. The content that I got to play before the crash was pretty good. Not amazing but it was good.
So you decided to attack some spelling error to don't have to deal with the contain and when you did you didn't have the brain to can answer it.

STO fan? They did this the last two years as well.
2012: Test fly the oddy.
2013: Cover the asses of the Enterprise C crew (who couldn't even die properly)
2014: Have an epic dogfight against Undine battleships with Commander Porkins (who incidentally I would LOVE to have as a BOFF) leading the charge.
It's more or less the bit of the anniversary event to mix things up with especially constructed space combat scenarios that put you at the helm of some other ship. That might amount to advertising, or just a way to break players out of their usual routine.

So what if it is? Doesn't mean you actually have to buy it or do the reputation thing for it. If you like the ship, get one. If not, stick with the one you have now.
So much unneeded antagonism.

Some people would relish the chance to get a shiny new ship.
More established players would relish the chance to beat new content in their established ships.
There's something to be gotten out of this, but I don't know what.
I thought it was a fun mission, and what if it was partly a marketing tool for the new ship? STO is free to play, they can't exactly fund the developers and server costs from thin air, they need to make the money from somewhere.
It was strikingly similar to the obelisk carrier mission. Trapped on the ground, do random actions that require conversations with the voice actor, fight thru, pile into new ship with random officers with odd skills in an odd layout, fight for a bit in the new ship. Its hard to say if it was any good or not, after having to restart it at least 5 times (I lost count) my attention and focus were on blasting it thru before the server crashed again so I did not really get any enjoyment out of finally completing it.

And we've had plenty of chances to use those established ships. New PVE content has been par for the course for just about two years (fleet, voth, tholian, hive, take your pick) with the exceptions being the anniversary missions (2nd, 3rd, and 4th), Sphere's of Influence, and the New Romulan missions (outside of the Nimbus set) with respect only to established KDF and FED players. But for them you have revamped early missions on both sides.
We don't have to have it all one way...

[SPOILERS]
Once you can get involved with the mission its actually got quite a different feel to it. The pace is a lot more direct and just about every aspect until you get to helm the Dyson ship is fatalistic (compared to the alternately menacing/awe-inspiring tone of SoI). Lethal puzzles, overwhelming voth boarders, just about everyone else around you is dead, and there isn't a clear way off the station until the last possible moment. It's the other side to the dyson setting that caps off the S8 mini story arc quite nicely. My only criticism is that the "Tuvok takes full responsibility" resolution felt a little contrived. There's much more logical ways of writing that through. But then again it does set up quite a different character arc than we had with Worf's cameo.

Lame. I'll try the fixed up Klingon content and that's it then.
