Did not pop up for me yet but one of my friends is doing this.

ok...I got disconnected about half an hour ago, and then a few moments ago i log out, click exit and the launcher relaunches itself then it downloaded a 300mb patch...um...what the heck?

2- And anything that does go wrong will get progressively worse.
3- And if you survive the first two laws it’s time to panic.
this announcement shoulda been more prominantly placed, got alot of captains wondering what the tribble is going on in game..

423.2 MB actual download here. No problems; went fast too.

Pre-patching for Season 8.5 has been enabled! Upon logging out of Holodeck, the launcher will pop up again and start the pre-patch download.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
I really appreciate you letting us know that pre-patch is enabled,
but can we also have an option in the launcher to enable prepatch now, or for later.
some of us can't afford warp-speed-internet connection and stuck with sub-light speed.
downloading big files might take hours - and in my case 1.6 GB is equivalent to around 2 hours downloading time. Im sure there are plenty others that share the same situation with mine.
By having option NOT to prepatch now, we can manage our prepatch to a much more suitable timing. Like when we are about to go to sleep, or having a long dinner or other situation. This will help us a lot.

You are not forced to pre-patch at a time you don't want it. Just press X.

I'm trying to do he pre-patch and it keeps disconnecting on me. What's going on?
A Trill, a Gorn, a Jem'Hadar, Bejoran and a Voth walk into a bar, and the Bartender asks "What is this a Joke?"
"Nope, just my away team" the trill replies before ordering a round for the bar.

What I do is close the launcher when pre-patching is not convenient for me, then log in and back out before going to sleep. Remember that pre-patching starts whenever you exit the game, so you're always in control.
I'll never understand how people can stay with Dial-Up, or even worse, DSL(worse because it costs the SAME as cable/broadband, but wayyyy slower)
And the scary thing is people are playing mmorpgs with these horribly SLOWWWW connections - and we wonder why we get lag when there are too many things happening on one map!? lol
Please add throttle ability to Pre-patch for future use... I dont mind prepatching, but my DSL provider, AT&T really sucks hard. Not even 1Mbit up or download. I basically cant use internet when this prepatch is running cause your program uses up every bit bandwidth I have.
If I can set it to download in the background at 10 to 20 kB/s that would allow me to do other things like play a MMO or watch youtube or maybe stream a movie.
If the pre-patch is out, then is that what I am downloading right now for 841MB...cuz I was just playing and when i exited my launcher was patching something at that size...????

Mine was 423.2 as I stated before. Idk what is going on with the size-varied patches. Or you must be mentioning the unpacked patch instead of the download amount. I don't remember what the patched size was.

Amazingly enough, I rarely experience game-crippling lag. Go figure.

All new seasons have pre patching
Will the game then patch back in the old content overwriting the prepatch and I would need to re prepatch again?
Pre-Patching just downloads the files to your computer ... It doesn't "unpack" them until the server says "You need version xxxxxxxxxxx.xx to play"...
It avoids every player of STO downloading the files at the same time and overloading the servers ...

You'd understand if you lived in a third world country, like me.
This is my "broadband high-speed" connection right now.
