Unfinished Tasks Error

wildkazoowildkazoo Member Posts: 31 Arc User
So, I've finally decided to venture into the Foundry. I have spent a while building a mission, but now it won't let me publish it. The task box says that I need to complete to more tasks before I can publish the mission. Those tasks are: Text must be filled in and Specify costume for dialog.

However, I cannot find any boxes without dialog and no unspecified costumes. Whenever I click on the tasks they take me to the beginning of the story, but the Grant Mission Dialog is filled out and there are no little warning signs. I have gone through the entire mission and can't find the problem. Is there something that I'm missing or am I just out of luck and will have to start over? If the latter is the case, is there a way to transfer maps and costumes without having to make all that again?

Sometimes it's not exactly clear what the errors are referencing. Clicking on the box might take you to the grant dialogue box, but the error might be within a branch of the dialogue. It might also refer to the map transition boxes.

You'll also get that error if the description of the mission is not filled out. Also check the costumes and dialogues of any blue dialogue bubbles that were added directly to the map. The error might not be in the storyboard.

Best advice is keep looking and you should find the errors.

Here's an example I made for a previous discussion.

You mentioned "boxes without dialog" and "unspecified costumes". Well... In my example I drew a yellow box around one of the tasks, if the part that says "Take out Orion Patrols" was left blank you'd get an error about dialog. As for costumes... that sounds like you added a quest dialog but forgot to tell the game who to show as the contact.

Sometimes dialogues can get "orphaned" and remain in the mission even though they'll never show up. An example is if you drop an dialogue pop up on a map and then delete the map.

Try going through the Dialogs tab and see if there's any dialogues that haven't been set up. If/when you find it make sure it's not a legitimate dialogue that you simply forgot to fill in, otherwise delete it.

^^ That exactly. That's what drove me bonkers one night too. It comes from the lesser-than-intuitive overlapping of your mouse. When someone is scrolling through a dialogue tree or moving a branch around, sometimes a stray dialogue populates and if you have said orphaned panel, they usually stick out under the dialogue tab.

Further more, moving the scroll bars around overlaps to the dialogue/tree/branches sometimes and can mess up your tree's continuity. When you notice something hokey happen Ctrl+Z is your best friend.
May good management be with you.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I thought I had checked everything thoroughly, but it turns out there was an orphaned dialogue somewhere in there. It has been deleted and the unfinished tasks went away. Now I know what to watch for in the future.
