Suggestion: Move some c-store consoles to device slot

nobletnoblet Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Some of the unpopular cstore consoles may become usable if moved from console to device slot.

Why do some people go to great hassle and expense to obtain Red Matter Capacitor? Because it's a reusable battery.

Why do nobody bother to use Enhanced Plasma Manifold or Enhanced Induction Coil? Because they take up a console slot, and they're not worth a console slot.

Moving these formally useless waste of space to device slot may makes sense, since they basically act as a reusable battery. It wouldn't be OP, as consumable batteries are still better, and Red Matter Capacitor, which boosts all 4 subs instead of just 2, already exist.

The worst of gemmick consoles might also be viable as devices.

Of course, the already popular cstore consoles, like plasmotic leech or valedore shield healer proc console, should stay consoles. The truly good consoles are passive, so it would make no sense to move them to battery slot anyway.

This would also make cruisers in the currently dps centric sto more interesting. Having the slots to field more devices, thus able to do a few more tricks, may persuade some eng captains from switching to escorts.

    They don't want non-consumable devices.

You'd probably sooner see Red Matter Capacitor moved to a console slot and stats added to some or all C-Store consoles to keep them as a viable tradeoff against using standard consoles.

I don't get why they don't want these c-store ships to actually sell.

Because they make new ships all the time to sale. They don't 'need' the old ships to sell anymore, they just need to make sure the 'new' ones do. So if the old one's fall off the map because the gimmick is just poor ( Multi-Vector Assault ), or if the console just wasn't that great ( Theta Radiation Vents ), they honestly couldn't care as they make money off of the new stuff anyway.

for me that is the only way to valorize some c-store consoles. I mean, all the "activable" consoles should become "devices" and all the "static" consoles should remain true consoles.

That's a change with many pro's and very few odds.. Power creep? a 5 min CD power isn't SO unbalancing.. it will add only some "customization" to the ships. The overpowered consoles are static, anyway (plasmonic leech, valdore console...)and most of the c-store consoles are pure gimmicry... why don't give a little boost to it?

I'd rather they incorporated them into the ships themselves. You want to use 'X' ability? Use ship 'Y'. Don't want to? Then tough.

Exactly, some of the least sought after consoles, like enhanced plasma manifold, just add power to 2 subs. It's already the same as battery, except with longer cooldown.

People are not going to use lower tier ships when they hit 50. You're trolling everyone who uses plasmonic leech and/or valedore console. :D

This would hurt escorts. I do not want. I would rather have a specialty slot.

It doesn't hurt escorts, it buffs cruisers, which needs a buff.

The idea has been suggested a few times now but never been answered.

Am I for or against this?

For, I was one that did suggest it as well.

It makes kind of sense, and I assume many people don't use batteries and therefore don't use device slots. Most cstore consoles are gimmicky anyway. I can only think of the plasmonic leech that is actually useful...

This is before you include the Romulan selection of opness though.

With romulan ships in mind, this idea may end up hurting them. Therefore cryptic won't touch it
    Chive on and prosper, eh?
