The Proton Weapon

So far, it seems to be nice. I've been using it for the 3 part set to boost my Grav Torpedoes. I like that it works with cannon and beam powers. Today I noticed it works with Beam Overload even though I can't seem to find it in the tool tip.

My question is, would it be viable to use rather than a DBB?

even with the highest possible proton boosting available, it will never match a DBB in firepower. BOs from it only draw 25 power though

Check the dps and damage per cycle numbers on the proton beam, then on a mk xii dual beam bank. There's your answer. Do yourself some math.

    Instead of a dbb....definitely a no to replace a dc/dhc...

I think the 3p is...10%crit to photon torps, 10% critd across the board and able to do crf with it...

I want to say no, maybe if the proton weapon is your only energy weapon and the rest is photon torps...
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's just nice to have a weapon that can use CRF, CSV, FAW, and BO. There's also not as much resistance to it either. I guess I'll have to try it out for a few days and see how it feels.

DPS numbers aren't too accurate in PvP because of resists. Also BO isn't much of a DPS power as someone can 1 shot kill all day with it and get crappy DPS numbers.

    Replaces DHC and DBB yes.

Been using it in place for a week now and I love it.

Overloads take 25 power... and hit 95% as hard. The way the buffs work... you can preload during rapid fire cycles.

I've really been happy with it, and all the bonus dmg to the photon is just icing. :)

Its the perfect weapon to build a Torp/energy hybrid ship.

    that pretty awesome, thanks!!!

one funny thing I've noticed though is when beam overload activates, you hear the normal big charging sound, then when the beam fires you hear a little pew. lol

lol ya the sound effects are funny. Looks awsome though its a beam one second then a cannon then a overload thick beam.

Really though for a torp boat hybrid... those +dmg photon consoles with +proton dmg and +acc... mean I can overload on a torp boat and still be running 4 photon dmg consoles. From that perspective its the perfect torp boat energy weapon. :)
