Holodeck for testing gear.

Hi all,

As a lot of weapons and other gear can be quite expensive, this idea just popped in my mind, where it would be possible to test gear before aquiring it.
This would involve a holodeck facility with which you would be able to make combat scenarios and ship setups to your needs. This way you can compare different setups against "fixed" combat scenarios, to find out if a certain setup would be worth while spending your 'limited' dilithium on !
As all things cost money to operate, it wouldn't have to be completely free ofcourse. There could be costs involved like EC and/or dilithium (1/100 or 1/1000 of the items's actual dilithium cost) for using the holodeck facility, and maybe even queues, as there is a limited amount of holodecks available or something...

What are your thoughts on this ?

cheers.

Yeah, I too have been longing for some kind of "training dummy" for a while now.

You can already test the reputation gear on tribble. I think you can get the Nukara gear from DS9 and the Dyson gear from Drozana. The Omega and Romulan gear has unfortunately been removed.

Ok, thanks, i'll go have a look.

Have been on tribble once to check out if I could buy the gear that i've unlocked on Holodeck, but in reputation window I still had to complete the rep all over again, and didn't want to do that ofcourse.
Too bad about the Romulan and Omega gear, personally i'm interested in the Rom stuff atm. and the Omega has a little bit of my interest as well.

You say removed, so it has been available, or ?

There are so many things they could do with the holodecks but dont. Actually there are vast amount of maps and zones and areas that are vacent in this game that the Devs could put to great use but dont. When was the last time anyone over level 50 went to the Omega task force map? Or that huge spacial rift that leads to the fluidic space that does nothing. Or planets like Andoria. Or Bajor once you finish the story missions.

Being a curious person, been to Andoria, Vulcan, Risa, and even Romulus system. Not much to do there but still fun to visit. Am thinking of going on holiday to Risa every now and then just to unwind :D, and the missions in Fluidic Space are awesome also !

Used to be available at DS9 for free to test it, but was removed before Legacy of Romulus when they wiped the test servers. They replaced the Omega and Reputation items with the Nukara reputation items. Any time a Reputation is added to Tribble, the first few weeks have the Reputation items unavailable, but they are eventually added to some console in some social area where they can obtained without grinding the Reputation.

Aye, saw an omega operative standing outside of the omega task force office who offers the nukara items. Also sent a search party to drozana station, new romulus and dyson headquarters but didn't think of checking consoles except at new romulus, as they have consoles for some commodities instead of peronnel.
Tested some nukara gear, not my main interest for the moment but still got some positive results.

The console for Drozana is by the GPL conversion console and on the wall just across from the ramp that goes up to the vendors in the main room.

We've seen the devs have Test Dummy vessels and mobs before, and I would love to see something like this implemented in the Foundry or for a training course to test your ship.

I would love something like this.

However, a decent substitute that works in the meantime is Starbase 234. It's on a time limit, is a pretty tough target, and in turn can make you squirm a bit with how hard it can hit back.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Only problem is even that doesnt have static test results.

A different set of ships appear everytime i go in, Always fed ships, but sometimes mirandas and centaurs with and assualt cruiser other times it is science vessels and a typhoon.

Being able to use training programs in the holodeck would be perfect. Have a few training programs available would be nice, easy, normal and hard ones, with actual static situations. Meaning the same ship sets, same ship groupings and the like.

Maybe a borg one and a tholian one, ones that can test tankiness vs E Peen DEEPS. Like you could go against a Klingon (or FED) Cruiser group, or a raider group.

It would be nice way to do real testing of builds and gear.
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!
I am Il Shadow and i approve these Shennanigans!

Already got some favorite testing grounds that are pretty 'static' and provide comparable results, but for me the main reason this idea came to mind was the dilithium cost... for example if you'd want to go for all new weapon types it could go up to almost 200k dil. What if the difference in performance would be neglectable, that would make it a very expansive non-profitable investment. A waste of time spent acquiring it (not to mention you'd be the laughing stock for the Ferengi for quite a while :D).
