Easy. It must be a norwegian forest cat. Pretty, fluffy creatures.

+1 for the weegies. one of the biggest breeds and definitely the one with the best personality

I'd give them a tie with the Maine Coon, mainly because the breeds are very similar.

a cat wouldnt follow a human around everywhere, in fact as a cat owner myself it would spend most of that time licking itself and doing what it wants as cats are semi wild. on that alone doesnt matter if data had spot, not even data could understand cat behavior half the time.

    so no.

some cats are strange because their human owners have managed to somewhat break that cat mentality, sometimes my cat follows me, stroking herself up against me, head-butt hand stroking and meowing and i spend minutes to 10-15 minutes stroking the cat and then she complains again until she is given something special.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I approve of this suggestion, if only to see Caitian players call it a "bring your child to work" day.

Heh, while watching Assignment : Earth last night, I had the same thing thought about having Gary Seven's cat as a canon in game pet.

"Isis" , Gary Seven's cat is already in game ... sort of ... as a Doff .

Oh, my, I must have this DOff! That was in my top 10 favorite episodes of TOS.

On the matter of Earth Cats in STO, I'm for it. But I do wish there were some sort of kennel/stable storage type thing where we could keep our pets, separate from the inventory, character bank, account bank, and equipped items.

I think it would be nice to see some continuity in pets, for example I have had this salaht (if that's how you spell it) cub for several months now, and it struck me, that why would it stay a cub forever? I mean time progresses etc.
    Its only logical.

I don't disagree with players wanting cats, but I can't imagine a cat following us around. It's extremely rare cats follow around their owners.

    Big time cat lover here.

You obviously have not seen pre-feeding time behavior.
Our cat is the reason why i manage to wake up early in the morning. Not just because he's pretty vocal bout being fed, but also because he follows me every step of the way to the kitchen. I have to wake up to avoid serious injuries. :P
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

lol...Caitian will be very angry...trying to enslave them again:rolleyes:...they manage to break free from human to be on equal terms and now Caitian will think that human trying to turn them back to 4 legged creature again. :D

I'm not sure we really need more pets of any kind but what I would like to see is more functionality and interaction to pets, maybe have it so if you sit down some of the smaller pets like epohh will jump onto your lap and snuggle down, and maybe with some of the larger pets so you can throw a ball and have them retrieve it.

but most importantly the thing I would like to see is an auto launch non combat pet slot on the characters so that any pet sloted there will automatically appear when ever I beam anywhere.
it could also be the case that in a combat situation the pet will scamper off or disappear and return when combat is over.
I have a fair few ground pets and half the time never think to launch them and that is a shame.

it would also be nice to have a similar slot on ships to auto launch non combat pets for the same reason.
this will have the added bonus that a lot of space pets could be stored on active and inactive ships freeing up some bank or inventory slots.
with all the non combat space pets I have I could have a different pet for almost every ship I have.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I think it can be arranged that Caitians can keep their independence and we'll just have the smaller Earth native Felis Catus species as our little buddies. But if any Caitians still feel a hankering for a scratchin' under the chin come say hi.
As far as more interactivity with pets in game that would be sweet. As it is, I have to pretend. I crouch close to my pets like I'm petting them. :)

Interactivity pets will be nice. That will be cool if to become a trainer, training them into different skills.:)

Can't say I personally experienced it to the degree a cat will follow you to such a degree. But I will admit, I had a friendly neighborhood cat approach and follow me on occasion when walking my dog a few years ago. But I can't say in all my years, I never seen a cat follow someone around obediently to the degree we would have as pets in STO.

Well it's up to Cryptic. Though could see cats sitting on your lap and you petting it when you sit down on a bench or the Captain's chair.

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
    An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

    A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, and do not comprehend,
I nevertheless consider you a true and valued friend.

If they do such a thing, perhaps they finally add that giant tribble from TAS, sitting in my captain's chair and me having to push it off once in a while.

Lol, you've never met my cats...they follow me & my wife around constantly.

Actually, if she's head-butting & rubbing her cheek along you, that means that cat is claiming you for her own, lol!

Do it lik epohh, perhaps during a special event, get tags and then doff the kit/pup into several different breeds.
New home of the Romulan Republic.
I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.

How about adding cats that attack players feet, accidentally head butt players, and cuddle. Mine does all of those things.

Maybe as a new category of vanity pet? Cabin pets or ship mascots, that hang out in the captain's quarters, crew lounge, bridge, and/or the ready room depending on where you put them (sort of like placing trophies that actually move a little bit).

There could be tanks of fish, cages of birds, dogs and cats curled up on the floor that occasionally stretch and yawn, even more exotic alien pets.

The difference being, it would be something you'd purchase or earn for your ship, not something you'd have to buy from the C-Store and nothing that would accompany you on an Away Team.

Because I kind of agree that I don't see cats as being a good MMO follow-you-everywhere pet.

I really like the idea mentioned earlier about pets just wandering around your ship. Sounds way more appealing than having them follow you everywhere an awkward meter away (and take up inventory space)

In that case I'll take a cat over those Mass Effect fish. And no, no Shark Aquarium either! Enough with creatures you can mount lasers on. Cats. Sure. Can live with that.

To quote the author Steven Saylor: "There are those in the world who love cats, and those who love dogs, and never shall the two close ranks."

They still shared a cup of wine.

Ship mascots are not a bad idea at all. Though there are lots of other features I'd rather see first.
