Q about Credits, Patrol Missions, BoFF traits

Hi,

Just have a few questions, would appreciate any help with them :)

1. Are credits used for anything other than the exchange?

I ask because the gear I can buy in either the Federation base as well as the Romulan new homeworld is white gear and useless. Basically the green gear I'm getting as drops is better than virtually all the white gear being sold (including the highest ranked white gear).

Makes me wonder what the purpose of credits is, other than to buy stuff from the exchange (which I'm not doing, as it's too expensive... lol). I'm assuming that later on you can buy better gear from merchants elsewhere?

2. Do patrol missions scale to your level?

I'm asking because I'm wondering if patrol missions scale, or are they a fixed level? Could you go and do all the patrol missions in each sector irrelevant of your actual level, or would you have to be an 'appropriate' level to do them?

3. Are patrol missions once only? Or are they like daily/weekly?

Just wondering if patrol missions are re-doable, or if they are once only.

4. If a Bridge Officer has a trait that affects space combat, do they have to be actively slotted at a station for it to affect you?

Say for instance a BO with the Efficient trait, would they have to be actively set at a bridge station for the Efficient trait to affect me in space? Or is it that they only have to be "active" in my BO list for it to be effecting me, even if they are not active on any station?

IE I have 2 Engineering BO's, 1 with Efficient and 1 without and only 1 engineering station. If I use the engineering officer without efficient at the station while leaving the other in my active list, would I still get the advantage of the efficient trait?

1.) Pretty much just the exchange. Things like batteries and hypos are cheap enough at the vendors. Or buying commodities to donate to fleet projects. You can drop a few hundred K on warp coils or energy cells.
2.) Yes, but still easy enough.
    3.) Probably a short cool-down like 30mins? (been forever since I've done a patrol)
    4.) Yup
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Patrol missions are 1x per day each, limited because they are easy and reward 1400 dil. They scale, with the final one (at least klingon side) offering an elite version.

as for the exchange, prices are "high" becase EC are easy to get and there is not much else to spend them on. There is also the human effect of all those zeros. Consider 1 million to be the base currency (like a dollar or something). And after you have been 50 for a while, a million really will not seem like as much. There is also a direct relation to real money, zen, and EC because several of the top selling items are either from real money or indirectly from real money, some examples include ship modules (500 zen, which is $5 USA), or lockbox keys at 125 zen, or ships/goods from lockboxes which came from keys... and so on. And it all ties back with zen earned in game.... earning 500 zen means farming over 60k dil which takes time, convert that to a module and sell it, could you have earned the 7mil or whatever in the same amount of work..? Anyway, the thing to take away is that EC let you buy things that others bought with zen, so EC and the exchange is like an extension of the zen store.

Thank you for the replies :)

    Have another question:

Q - Story-based accolades, can you reply a mission to get any accolades you missed, or couldn't get?

IE A)So if you look at the Romulan storyline, you can get an accolade for asking after Torvan's sister at various points early on. If for whatever reason you miss this, can you replay all the relevant missions to ensure you ask all the questions needed for this accolade? Or is it impossible to get if you didn't get it the first time?

    B) There is a Romulan story mission which has 2 accolades in it, but you can't get both at the same time. One accolade requires you do one thing, while the other requires you do the opposite. If you have completed that mission and gotten the 1 accolade, can you replay the mission to get the other accolade? Or is it only possible to get the 1 accolade? (Mission is Mind Games)

    C) The Azure Nebular system mission (the one directly after Mind Games in the Romulan storyline, but it's a mission all 3 factions have to do). This has quite a lot of accolades available to it. Can you get these by replaying the mission? Or do you have to get it on the first time?

I am not sure about part A to your second question, as I have not completed the Romulan arc past creating a character. However, yes on parts B and C. Some even require you to team with the other career choices in order to gain the accolade. This is because each carreer choice has different accolades associated to them and the only way to get all of them is to be in a team of at least one of each: Sci, Eng, and Tac.
