Just a thought on a whim, haven't really thought it out but just thought I'd voice it to see what you think.
The idea is that BOffs and DOffs could sustain injuries in space combat.
Active BOffs could be knocked offline (3-5 sec) and be given a sickbay debuff. (Your BOff is being replaced by someone less competent.) The standard injury healing methods could be used to clear the debuff in or out of combat. The severity of the injury would determin the effect on your BOffs abilities. Minor 1%, Mderate 3%, Major 5% all of which could compound and stack. Additionally your crewmen could recieve these injuries even if you are not destroyed but there would need some kind of critical hit system to make it work.
Similarly active DOffs could sustain an injuy knocking their buff offline 5-10 sec and placing a Sickbay Debuff on them. This would activate them in a sickbay DOff mission with 1 min counter. They would appear "greyed out" on the active roster but can be switched with another proficient DOff if wanted.
Of course this should only be a factor in Elite settings, and I'm undecided on the effect it would have on PvP. Just a thought, discuss.
