Hi,
I'm wondering if you guys are going to consider possibly extending the winter closing date for all the people who were affected by the Ice Storm? 500,000 people in Ontario plus many others in US and Canada had no power for up to 7-12 days including myself... I didn't even have power on christmas
and to top it off there has been several days where the lag on the game has made it impossible to complete the ice race... like today
I'm going to end up missing getting my ship by a few days...
Thank you and happy new year

42 days, it takes 25 days to get ship. That leaves 17 days. 8.5 of those I had no power (but I consider myself lucky because some people waited 12 days for power to be restored), and I've had 5 days so far where the lag made it unplayable, and I also work so there are some days that I can't play at all.
If I hadn't lost power for that long, it wouldn't have been a problem.
No, they extended last year because of a glitch with the servers.
So unless this cold snap knocks out the server in Boston (where the STO servers are) or the routers that connect to the server, they aren't likely to extend the event.
Nope. They extended it, yes. But the storm had nothing to do with why they did it.
And so far, it looks like the plan is for this one to end as previously scheduled:

17 additional days to get the ship. That is enough for someone to go on a 2 week vacation for the holidays and still get the ship. Currently trying for both Breen ships on my Romulan. Won't get the Cruiser, but I will be about 1 week away from getting it. So I will get it next winter as well as whatever new ship they introduce next winter. The ships are not going to disappear next winter and you will still keep your progress if you are not able to finish this month. If someone needs to get it now, then there is always getting it with Lobi.
you can always make the shortfall up with lobi. expensive but that's a reason why its there.
this is after all supposed to be the season of good will (no it didn't end on jan 2nd) and I cant seen any harm in allowing the winter special to run for another week and it will be of very little cost if any to cryptic.
there has been a great deal of loss all over this period some of it irreplaceable due to the bad weather more so then any other year and though some may have been unaffected by it there have been many who have been effected in varying degrees and I feel deeply for anyone who has suffered a loss of any kind.
having said that I doubt that you will get this particular belated Christmas wish granted.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
if you define what's being called the coldest weather in years that is being blamed for at least 16 deaths and left more than 500000 homes in the usa without power and in the uk Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and two people have been killed after a powerful Atlantic storm hit as "a bit of weather" that's effected "a minority of people" fine.
and nobody's saying cryptic is responsible but it would not cost them anything to be a little charitable in this instance.
so if the majority exploit any further days and might end up getting two free ships instead of one I say big deal they won`t be getting anything that wasn't on offer anyway.

But here's the thing- the length of this year's Winter Wonderland is the same as last year's ended up being. As in, seeing what happened last year, they took the "we extended the 2012 event to [date]" and used that as the "planned all along" end date.
The "hardship extension" was built in all along. The question here is do we say "enough is enough," or keep throwing on extensions for every inconvenience to any group until the event's duration eventually becomes 365 days a year?
as far as I am aware the extra time given this year was not a hardship extension but to enable players by playing every 20hrs to get both ships that were on offer.
now due to the weather some players might not even be able to get one ship without just a few extra days but I am sure their inconvenience will not effect you as I very much doubt it will happen anyway so you should not worry too much about it.

The Pictures of Q were last year's introduction and they brought them back this year, so it's clear that they want to keep things going like they have it now, so I don't see them changing currency on us anytime soon. Therefore, someone can save the pictures up for use next year.

You think so?
Event = 42 days
42 days = 1008 hours
1008 hours / 20 hours = 50.4 times you can squeeze in the race.
(Assuming the servers are never taken down for maintenance. Knock out a couple of hours per week for that, and you can pretty much forget doing both ships in one event without spending Lobi since missing just one 20 hour cooldown cycle means you're hosed.)
I'm sticking with "Time for one, plus adding the inevitable extensions in rather than tacking them on later."
