Events and Mining Claims

Hello all, been away for a bout a year and came back about a week ago.

Aside from discovering the joy of having a woefully underpowered warp core, I'm having fun again.

For giggles, I decided to buy a pack of keys and open up some lock boxes. During this, I obtained two different crates of dilithium crates which state they have to be used during the mining event.

I've also noticed a distrubing lack of events...

Are these claims more worthless than a mirror ship?

Off topic:

When I left I had a nice defiant retro-fit, with omega/borg/maco xii gear, adv fleet dual cannons, and quad phasers...

But I don't see many defiants anymore... did I miss a major change? I still seem to be killing pretty well, but it makes me wonder...

    Beams happened. Easier to fly, easier to fit all while throwing out so much dps the borg might as well hand over their bnps and save themselves the trouble.

    You can use the Claims whenever you want to, it comes up as a different mission from the regular mining mission and afaik the mining event doesn't affect it anyway
