Best DOFF missions ?

tardes13tardes13 Member Posts: 167 Arc User
So I've recently started digging deeper into this aspect of the game and been wondering if people have any advice on choosing missions.

That is - which missions are most profitable (in terms of dilithium, or other goodies).

In answering, please comment on the balance between duration/rarity/rewards or any prerequisites to get that mission.

For now, I'm focusing on klingon disable freighter/raid station plus DS9 contraband/prisoner exchange.

For the Federation side, can't seem to find many good missions ...

***
I know recruitment missions are very good, that will be another topic, once I do more "research".

Also, I've been wondering:

* Is there any way to know which missions are localized in a specifc sector ?

* Is it a good idea to make missions just for XP? I mean, doing missions for rewards will get you XP anyway so why waste my DOFFs time on purely XP missions. And not sure what rewards XP and DOFF leveling get you ...

The biggest rewards that leveling DOFF xp can give is this:

    1. At tier 4 Diplomacy or Marauding, depending on faction, you will get a free BOFF from the other faction, like getting a Nausicaan on a Fed, or a Human on a KDF.

    2. As you level up each tier, you gain free DOFFs that otherwise cost dil. At tier 1 and 2 you get green DOFFs, at tier 3 you get a blue DOFF, and at tier 4 you get a purple DOFF.

    3. For every DOFF area you get to 110,000 xp or more, you can go to your Starbase and do a special DOFF mission to turn in 10,000 of that xp for 75 fleet marks, or 100 on a critical success.

    4. As you level up DOFF areas, you will get various accolades and titles (for example the Governor title comes from getting tier 4 Colonial.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

The DOFF system can be extremely lucrative if you're willing to invest some time in it.

    - There is a mission to turn in Contraband for 2000 Dilithium. KDF characters can earn a lot of Contraban with their marauding assignments. I always put this in my account bank and distribute it among my characters to turn in.

    - There are a number of missions worth 50 Dilithium in the Engineering and Military categories. One of the ones in the Engineering category is worth 250. I always look for these missions first and take them if they are available (which is usually every other day). You'll want to keep at least 3 Explosive Experts on hand for the Engineering ones. These really add up, especially if you can get critical successes on them. There are also a couple that show up a little less frequently under the Scientific, Medical and Operations category. Always keep a Refugee on hand, they'll remember where they stored a stash of 50 Dilithium every couple of days.

    - Resettle Colonists whenever you can, and Relocate them to Federation Borders for 500 Dilithium.

    - Get the three Duty Officers from completing Facility 4020 in the Dominion Featured Episode Series. There are a number of missions that require a Shroud or Telekenesis, and those Duty Officers (a Purple Vorta and 2 Blue Gemhadar) will be extremely useful. Law from "A Fist Full of Gorn" is purple quality as well, and you can get a Blue Vulcan Duty Officer each time "Hearts and Minds" goes live (on Halloween and Friday the 13th).

    - The exploration Clusters (Delta Volanis, Rolar Nebula, Zenas Expanse etc.) each have a chain of 7 missions. When you complete the 7th one you'll get a Blue Duty Officer and open up a repeatable mission that can reward a purple Duty Officer on a critical success. The Colonial Chains for Rolar Nebula and Zenas Expanse will provide you with more Vorta and Gem'Hadar Duty Officers to help with specific missions. I always complete those ones first to pad out my Rosters with those species.

    - Use your Alts. The more characters you have working the Duty Officer System, the more you'll get out of it. I like to cycle my Duty Officer Assignments using my Laptop while watching TV at night. Another great thing about the Duty Officer system is you're not in combat, so if you need to walk away from the computer the game will wait for you (especially useful if you have children).

    - If you see "Strike against Fugitive Support Network", take it. This mission is extremely lucrative, especially if you get a critical success. Earlier today, it provided me 250 Dilithium and 12 Prisoners, one of which was a Blue Vorta (useful for the mission to exchange prisoners with the Dominion) and five Contraband, as well as some other stuff.

    - Concentrate on Diplomacy/Marauding first to get the Trans-Warps. They are immensely useful.

As you invest more time in the Duty Officer System, your roster will become stronger, and you will succeed (and have critical success) on your assignments more often. I would highly recommend increasing the roster size to 200 on as many characters as possible. Also when you start a new character, go through your existing characters and see what officers they can spare, this will give them a real jump start over characters who are building their roster using the ones provided to them through the packs (which are mostly white quality).

I'd recommend doing all of the assignment chains. In Cardassian space there is Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar which nets a purple after completing all 10 assignments. Also, the assignments where you contact governments and install a diplomat are good for officer exchanges. Even the bartender and chef assignments are good to progress through.
The assignments that award 1000+ cxp are good to do because if you get a critical success, that cxp jumps to 3k or 5k, depending on the rarity of the doff assigned. Also, I agree with what was posted earlier about the 50 dilithium assignments. You'll find that you will progress through Eng, Mil, Esp, much faster. Diplomacy is good to progress through quickly, but getting the uncommons, rare and very rares from other depts will help progress as well. Also, Caitian Diaspora nets you another purple doff. Even if you don't need a flight deck officer, I find it immensely helpful to do the repeatable 20hr assignment and use the extra flight deckers to turn in contraband, or resettle colonists. I send a very rare flight deck off to turn in contraband and I always get the 20% quality bonus. Also, always try to have a 2000 or 10,000 cxp boost going. Right now, the winter event doff assignments net 125 dilithium for a success, but no extra for a crit (bug?). Geez Louise... winter epohhs can net you a bunch of fleet marks. And then there's the chat channels doff calls and doff jobs. But be careful using those. Jobs is a general chat channel as well. Almost! as bad as zone chat sometimes. Calls is NOT for chatting. Someone sees an important or rare assignment, they call it out. B.O.L.O for Temporal Anomoly and Reclaim Borg Drones. I personally don't use the tracker, but I'm sure someone else can fill you in on it.

Recently I was trying to scrabble together funds for a D'Kora so ec was my aim.
Dont forget the medical section as there are always several 30min missions for 490ec.

But if your in a fleet do the 20hr fleet mining missions that reward good di, excellent credits and some fleet provisions for projects on a critical. Start these before you log off so you can cycle as many missions as possible whilst on-line.

Now I have my D'kora I need GPL, do the 'shape shifting lockets for entertainment purposes' mission, very lucrative as you will want to keep contraband for di or conversion to ec on the exchange.

Always upgrade refugee dofs using the 'asylum' missions being in the right place with the right dof at the right time can give a blue quite often and these sell well on exchange, great profit as it cost you anything.

Get a good Entertainer with cunning & / or efficient for Dabo mission which comes up a lot and awards ec even if you just break even on GPL. He can always 'host a poker game' which gives good yield if dabo not up.

Recruitment missions are not good in my opinion as they take days and the BoF obtained has a low exchange rate. You need to get it to L4 so you can buy Andatti though; harsh realm.

Childern's toys chain seems rare to me but others swear it has yielded them excellent purple MkXII consoles, I'm not convinced always gives me emergency force fields or bio-monitors.
Hope this is helpful in some way.

Doffing can be VERY profitable. I'd personally stay away from EC-earning missions; better ways to earn EC in-game. I would focus on Dilithium rewards and blue/purple DOFF rewards.

At the moment, epohh farming in the Winter Wonderland earns really big reputation rewards right now.

In general, this Is a great resource: DOFFing 101

    More: DOFFing [102?]

    Still more: DOFFing 103?

Spreadsheet for tracking doff missions - sometimes updated; other times just a great resource to know what's available in general:DOFF Spreadsheet

Good resource in Dyson sphere area: Dyson DOFFing
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.

-contraband missions (raid freighters, beat it out of your crew, raid bases, etc). Every 5 is a free 2k dil.

    - related: turn in contraband (go to security officer on a base), 2k dil per go per toon.

    - science missions grant crafting gear. The particle traces vary but some are worth tons of EC each. I sold off all but 10 of each of mine recently for a million EC, and we are talking selling only 5-10 of each type.

    - missions that grant bridge officers. Most are worthless but a blue with a rare skill or a purple can net you some money or if you need them, a useful BO to use or a skill to train from.

Missions that grant additional DOs --- you can get a round of these every so often from your academy, one for each major race (?) I think (?).

There are additional missions to get BO and DO from your starbase if your fleet has unlocked that.

Gear missions --- most are trash, but you can get some odd but useful items like the reverse engineered alien personal shield which has purple quality shield rating and high resistances to crowd control effects, its at least decent enough to use on an officer if not your character. There are others, the questionable harghpheng torpedo which is faster than a fighter but long cooldown and meh dps, and others let you craft all sorts of things from consumable turrets to consoles and more (again, most is sub par to top gear but they can be nice "free" items to use as a new player who has no rep or dil etc).

There are reputation missions -- one of the most used being the raising of epohhs on new rom (gotta be 50 for this).

there are a ton of "hidden" DO missions. Some from talking to specific NPCs, some from poking around at your own crew (visit starship bridge console and see what you can find) and more. The kdf npc at least will give 4 DO missions when you do the chains on DS9. You get all sorts of popup missions in dyson areas. Other quest chains have some -- there is on in paradise city chain to install a replicator which gives a free DO.

Other than these, most of the rest reward small amounts of dil and experience. Some chains, as others said, give additional cool rewards.

Level up ALL the categories as you get to pick green, and later higher quality, DOs for free and if you pick carefully you can fill in areas that are weak, making tasks that were often failed or not safe to do possible.

Early on, visit your personal tasks often --- things like personal weapons training is low risk but give military experience, while most of the military standard missions are high risk for your people....

And finally, if you are KDF, do not use the DO mission system when you are tired, drunk, or just not paying attention. A number of missions KILL your officers outright, and not paying attention can kill as many as 5 at a time when you log back into the game .....

There are a decent number of lucrative doff assignments that require rare commodities (things like jevonite, tulaberries, etc.). These commodities can themselves be acquired via Trade assignments ("Haggle for [X]") that can be found in the "Current Map" section when you are in Alpha Trianguli, Beta Ursae, Zeta Andromeda, the exterior map of DS9 (when you're outside it in your ship), out on the promenade of the station, and from the Trader NPC who can also be found out on the promenade. Always a good idea to have maybe 4ish guys that can do that sort of work (Traders or Quartermasters, but the latter always seem to have other things to do, so that means Traders).

I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)
