Does anyone else have the Level 50 blues?

ussexeterussexeter Member Posts: 17 Arc User
So for about 4 months now I've been playing STO and I absolutely love it!! I noticed at Level 50 I quit advancing in my career, so after googling I find out I've completed the advancement process and I've plateaued. Now What?

I was hard wired from the onset of playing this game to collect as much dilithium as possible to sell for Zen and buy stuff (uniforms, ships, weapons, etc...).

Now I have an empty feeling like when you complete a video game and once mastered you do not feel the need to return. I know there is still plenty of missions to play that I passed on while mining dilithium, or I can start over as a different skill set, or different race but was curious if fellow STO gamers felt this way too.

LEVEL 50 = PREPARE FOR THE GRINDFEST

That's right, once you top your grade, all that's left is to waste your miserable life in the Dilithium Mines.

    NOW where's my whip

when i hit level 50 i do some basic grinds for gear that is reasonable enough then the character is left in limbo. unsure what to do with them.

I'd say, this is where accolade hunting comes into the picture.

You should max out your reputations if you haven't already. Also see if you can gear up with some fleet gear to improve your character even more. Play the STF raids if you want to get into the hardest in-game content. There's also accolade hunting, events like the winter event, making a new character is like a new game too. PVP as well.

I highly suggest making a new character on a new faction if you haven't yet, each faction has it's own unique costumes, content, ships, etc.

In the end, if you find yourself without any missions to do, check out the foundry. There are possibly an infinite amount of missions in there to play with. You just need to search as the tools for finding good missions in it are kinda silly atm.

There is a lot more to do than people realize, they just need to take a look and find it first.

i dont care for the grinds, never have which eliminates most of the lvl50 stuff entirely. occasionally may grind to the point of getting more alt slots to level up again, but after that then what? really sto endgame content is non existent.

If you don't like any kind of grinds, then... Hmmm... Have you done the featured episodes?
They are at least not grind-based.

Making something a grind is a mentality problem in part. That is, if you spend 4 hours a day in dyson, that is *grinding* and boring. If you spend 30 min in dyson space, then 30 on the ground, then go tour the planets for rom marks, then do something with your fleet, and follow that with a repeat of an old mission or whatever, .... it can be just as varied as leveling up was.

Its really a question of what you want out of a game, though. Do you want the best stuff, to be able to push the difficulty slider to elite and still not be scratched by most enemy? Do you want to pvp seriously? Take on elite group content? Or did you just want to see the galaxy? If you have no desire for the best gear and no desire to earn it, then you are probably about done with this game until new stuff comes out. The only thing left really is your starbase/feet progress if that is not maxed out -- and it is also a grind, just a group effort one that can be fed with a lot of varied missions.

But try mixing it up, is my advice. If combat is too easy, slide it up a notch to advanced or elite, then dive into a rep area for a few, then do something else for a bit, but don't let it become a job or repetitive, boring mess. And try to group up with some friends some, other people can make things more fun.

to me finding challenges on other games to mix up for a while can help, but the novelty factor wears off quickly because you have done it all so much that it comes back to you how boring it was as if you never left it. sure its a mental thing, but im just not wired that way to do this stuff every time every day for the rest of my game life, i already got a grind in life being work, i come home to escape it. i mean on the 25th everyone else does turkey and brings all the family along to celebrate i spent all day in my room just putting together a puzzle and the day before that i was half way trolling on world of tanks because i drank too much fizzy TRIBBLE. just change the theme every chance i can.

Well my usual routine is as follows:

    1) Finish all the PvE content
    2) Join a fleet if I haven't done already
    3) Max out all reputations
    4) Spend the Dil I've saved since starting the toon on some rep gear
    5) Save up and buy a fleet ship
    6) Waste time in STF's, Ker'rat, fleet grind or experimenting with ship builds
    7) Get bored
    8) Delete toon and take a break from STO
    9) Re-install and back to step 1

I've just started playing again and going through step 1 as we speak :)

Levels 1-49 are just a painstaking process of preparing your toon for Endgame. Endgame is when you really start to have fun. Get with a good fleet and run the most difficult content you can find. Learn the nuance and detail of all the STFs and see how quickly you can do them. Set goals for youself in the process.

According to those familiar with current gaming trends, now you realize you've finally finished the tutorial and actually start playing the game. You do this by picking which "elite endgame content" you're going to play over and over and over and over and over.

Welcome to modern gaming. Enjoy. :D

I'm not bored of the game yet - Which is unusual for me, as normally when I hit the top level I interest dwindles considerably. That said, my 'main' character finished the regular content a while back, my second is currently being pestered by the Deferans and my third is on her last few unique missions before she gets railroaded into the universal plotline...

Once they've all completed that content, other than a few of the foundry 'series' and maybe a couple of the one-off's there, I'm doubtful there will be much to keep my interest beyond occasionally logging in to run a few DOFF missions and refine Dilithium.

Still, who knows what the future may bring... Besides, I want to try and run through a few of my single-player games, so I could do without so much of a distraction from this.

Level 50 is where the fun ends and the work and cash grabs begins. What, you thought they would just give away content for shiits and giggles? Welcome to a perfect world.

    I have the sub-level 50 blues.

As in, i'm levelling toons to 50 and some of the missions bore my face off.

I've just started playing again and going through step 1 as we speak :)

    My method:

    1) Finish all FEs.
    2) Join a fleet, get buy privs (and, if you like helping others, get officer status and manage the fleet responsibly), start running daily fleet duty officer projects. Buy a "free" fleet-reliant ship like a Saber retrofit or a K'tinga retrofit, if you made a bad choice for your level 40 ship.
    3) Max out all reputations, in the following order: Dyson, Romulan, Omega, Nukara. (my personal opinion). Be sure to stockpile at least 5 times the marks that you need for the projects, and log in daily to make the grind as short as possible.
    4) Grind dil using spare marks, fleet doff missions, et cetera. Use it to buy ZEN, or for fleet stuff (if that's how your inclinations go).
    5) Make an alt, level said alt to 50, then grind dil with featured episodes, doff missions, and pve queues. Rinse and repeat, being sure to get your daily max dil refine on all characters.
    6) When you have a spare day, run Battlezone three times per toon. Log in daily to each toon over the course of the next ten days, and refine the dilithium. Easy money.
    7) When you have a fleet ship, elite gear, et cetera--and you have a build you like--go into No Win Scenario or PvP space matches. 1v1 people if you like. Find a buddy with a fully-loaded Scimitar and see if you can take him.
    8) If at any time you get bored, play a story-based Foundry mission. They have great stories, and they give a sweet reward.
    9) By this point, Cryptic is probably ready to release a new season. Go forth and enjoy it!
    10) Use one of your alts, hopefully with a very different build, and try steps 1-3 and 8 again just for kicks.

And be sure to take some time for the special events. You won't regret it.

    *checklist*

    Aw TRIBBLE no!

I tried the alt thing in my last playthrough of the game and never again. I got to T4 across all reps on a single toon and I couldn't stand it anymore, and that was before Dyson came along. Nevertheless I attempted a second alt for a Fed sci toon and that just finished me off.

It sounds odd, but I do think the burnout will come slower if I stick to a single toon this time round.

Not really lol. Once you have finished your first runthrough of all Episodes and regular missions, we still have PLENTY to keep us busy in endgame.

    Crafting

100+ systems to visit - each with their own special 'PATROL' mission instances.

Several areas we can do the EXPLORATION missions - all randomly generated content, so theres aways something new!

All dailies and VA dailies - (such as Deferi missions, fleet missions and more)

4 massive Reputation Zones - Nukara, Defera, New Rom. and Dyson Sphere. All with dozens of things to see and do each day!

45+ STFs and FAs(including the 8 or so "Elite" versions) ground, shuttle and spaceship missions!

    Completing and finding ACCOLADES!

Working on getting your reputation and/or fleet projects to new Tiers!

Collecting DOFFs to maximize your performance and FUN using the Duty Officer system!

Maximizing your character, your boffs and your ships/shuttle performance and getting them to look and be equipped however you want!

Redoing all Episodes - but on a higher Difficulty!! Not only will you get more blue or even purple drops, its more of a challenge so it feels good to "beat" an episode with skill alone! And, once you are 50, EVERY Episode your return to offers Mark XI rewards - including all the special items and weapons you had while progressing to 50!

PVP!!! There are FOUR types of PVP instances, and dozens of maps! Ground Warzones and Space warzones are my favorite - as you can do them with a group or solo(by going directly to the planet/system). In these, you have to complete certain objectives against NPCs - while fighting or racing enemy players! PvPvE fun! Gotta love it!

finally, there is ROLEPLAY!!! Exploring the HUNDREDS of maps, space and ground, and finding hidden areas and cool things in each environment. If ur alone, you can take your time, using emotes, changing camera angles and zooming in/out to make your experience more '"cinematic". There are tons of RP and RP-friendly fleets that have daily and weekly events - many who invite non-fleet members to join them! Starbase "meetings", story telling in "quarks", planning STFs or FAs while IN-Character and in Siskos office or a starbase readyroom or even on your own ship! Action-RP is my favorite where you run missions or instances, and you and your teammates do all you can to make your mission/instance run look and feel like a LIVE MACHINIMA MOVIE! Battle cries, quick sitreps at start of a mission, taunts, emotes, rolling/jumping/sneaking in combat, talking on a channel as if its a fleet-wise comm channel while u and friends fight enemies in space. Theres also the Foundry where u can create missions to RP in specifically.

FOUNDRY - I don't use it much, but Ive heard that there are plenty of mission, some simple some complex- all Trek-like. And many are more detailed and full f great lore and dialog when compared to Cryptic missions. Personally, I wont be doing any Foundry missions until I see and do EVERYTHING that the professionals have made. But I will eventually play some missions and Im sure I'll love it :)

So, in closing, THERE IS PLENTY TO DO AT ENDGAME!!! If you feel "burnt out" or "bored" then you should take a break from the game, play less than your normally do, or you might have to find an mmorpg you will enjoy! So many mmos out there- every1 deserves to play one they are crazy about :)

    S! and GL!

There's a new verse to my level 50 blues added every season when they add in new content that includes all of 6 story missions or fewer,

The shoddy collection of fetch quests in the sphere
    nimbus
    the undine/borg/breen sequences.

They did things like cardassian struggle and romulan mystery once, can't we have more content on that level and fewer laggy, boring adventure/battlezones to explore*?

Come on devs, I want to actually do something. The zones are boring don't advance anything, they're always just pointless tangents you leave unfinished (deferra, Nukara) and it seems kind of silly to tack on a zone, give us 3 single player missions to go to each part of it, and then be like LOLENJOYTHENEWSEASON<3.

I'm so tired of grinds and queues and free roaming a couple square kilometers of the same planet for months on end. Give me more actual content.

*explore: to bounce from one side of the map to the other killing different assortments of enemies while mashing the f button to complete some other indistinct objective before more assorted enemies spawn.
