Galaxy / Venture X Dreadnought Cruiser Tips

hey guys im goin to attempt to make a guide for engineers that want more out of their Dreadnought Cruiser.

First:
Turning radius. this is the biggest Achilles heel of the galaxy X its stock turn is somewhere around 6.2 deg. /sec

there are several ways you can improve this greatly. Dilithium Mine consoles, RCS or Hillbilly armor(ablative, neutronium, ect) needs to say +turn on it. get which ever combination works for what your doing at the time.
(combat impulse generic purples on low power will help too.

Abilities:
Auxillery to inertial dampers will increase your turn by 117 percent for the duration of the ability.

Emergency power to Shields/Weapons is a great way to fill those two ensign slots.

fill out your abilities from a healing stand point (extend shields, hazard team, engineering team) will work well together

Aceton Beam is a good debuff to round out that Commander Engineer station. also Directed energy modulation, Tactical team, torp spread 1 and scatter volley 2will make u an AOE monster.

Weapon type:
To get the best out of the Phaser Spinal lance stack phaser relays and runn turrets/dual cannons except for 1 spot which you can place a dual beam bank into.

Also anything that up's your defense or structural integrity (jevonite hardpoints) is well worth the price for max survival.

CLOAKING DEVICE:
Guys i know alot of you hate the console cloak thingie we have at the moment but USE IT. its central to the hit and run tactics of this ship. or alternatively if you want to run mask energy signature that will work well to but give u a defensive buff instead of a damage buff.

Cruiser Comm Array
Use Weapon Efficiency comm code to reduce the cost of ur spinal lance which is -25 x 2 when firing it. any EP2 abilities Red Matter warp core CAP batterys will work, jus overcharge it as much as possible before firing and pop engineer fleet from cloak Tac team directed energy modulation and fire and if your lucky, or jus taht damn good u will get 5 digit damage figures, especially when it crits.

Omega Adaptive set and borg set work well together, but the best thing you can do is run covariant shield array like aegis shield and keep the borg engines and deflector. u will get a partial set bonus for the borg plus your omega adapted either partial or full set accordingly

This ship is a beast. if you can get over the small problems it has with its mass/inertia/turn and play fairly sneaky and HEAL YOUR TEAM EVERY CD POSSIBLE the galaxy / venture X Dreadnought Cruiser will blow your mind with how good it is.

Why use cannons on it when you can use a doff-aux2bat, DEM, faw1 and ap:beta 1?

For the record I have no issues using cannons on a ship with that low of a turn rate, they work well on my J-Dread with 3 fleet RCS +allres, I just feel on a Gal-X, the a2b faw/dem would offer more and I'm thinking of moving my engy tank from Fleet Galaxy to Gal-X.

    Interesting build.

you might want to consider putting something in about what Doffs to keep active. I have three Projectile Weapon Doffs active to make sure my build can keep up a good firing rate on Torps and two Technician Doffs to help with Boff CD.

I have found that the SC/Turret build works best for me.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Single cannons have the highest cycle rate of any turret. which is probably good on this ship. i went with DCs because i wanted to be between volume of fire/dps/damage.

In STF that is a viable choice, but i like to use my Galaxy-X in PVP and kerrat also and no amount of consoles will give you enough turn rate to keep opponents in you crosshairs.

SC/Turret, possibly with cluster or trico give the best results.

Gal-X is a ship with an extremely niche role, given that it is grossly inferior in every way when removed from that niche: Trying to gank someone for MAXIMUM SURPRISE ATTACK out of your cloak+Lance+cannons combo. Without using these features, you're basically just flying a slower, clumsier, MUAC. The ship has no advantages without those special features.

As such, this ship is entirely unsuitable for an Engi captain, who cannot muster enough spike damage to achieve the ship's sole purpose for existing.

It is true that the Galaxy-X has been left behind with the power creep of the new vessels, but when you know your strengths and weaknesses it is still a capable ship.

I use this ship as an engineer and have good results with it.

Agreed. Same here on both my Tactical main and Engineer alt.

But here's the thing: You could do *BETTER* with another, cheaper, otherwise identical ship that has better stats all around....the cheap-as-free MUAC is exactly the same ship, with +1 turn rate and -Lance, which, as an Engineer, you cannot really get serious mileage out of anyway! All the features that differentiate the Gal-X from the MUAC are completely useless in the hands of an Engineer Captain, who cannot pump the damage on the Lance to levels that justify its absolutely awful 3-minute CD.

So for a weapon you cannot use, and the option to waste your already limited console slots installing a cloak that you cannot really benefit much from, you trade a point of base turn, effectively getting nothing for something. On top of that, with the new Cruiser Auras, the Gal-X gets shafted again, losing two the GOOD auras it could otherwise have gotten as a reguilar Cruiser. So, you give up a LOT that you could have gotten on an otherwise identical FREE ship.

Now, it is true that if you know your strengths and weaknesses that you can still wield it as a capable ship...but it is clear in this case that you apparently don't, since you've chosen a combination that accentuates all of the ship's weaknesses while failing to capitalize on any of its strengths.

You're missing one big issue here.

What if, and bear with me, what if, we WANT to use this ship? what if we LIKE using this ship and ENJOY it? Could I have spent my money and bought a Tac oddy or a Kumari and been like everyone else? Sure. Did I want to? No. I wanted to chase my dream and fly a Galaxy-X. I have fun, and can perform reasonably well, and it annoys my fleetmates to tears, AND the cloak gets on their nerves in 1v1.

Isn't having fun what matters? Do I have to follow the quest of ultimate DPS to my virtual grave?

Whatever happened to playing a game for fun?

A lot of people (including a lot of Devs I fear) don't understand the fact that we fly the Galaxy X because well. Its a Galaxy.

Yes there are ships that are on paper far superior machines. However, they are NOT the Galaxy. The Avenger isn't the Galaxy, the Odsessy isn't the Galaxy.

The Galaxy and X are flown because a) it looks do different from any other Federation ship. b) The Enterprise D It was the flagship of the Federation and flown by Jean Luc Picard.

    Thats why we fly it.

I think its awesome, all fleet phasers and 3 xi purple phaser relays which give a big boost to the phaser lance, I one shotted a full shielded Mirror Luna class with it. awsomness.

Then you should pick the combination that allows you to use this ship to its full potential rather than as a crippled version of another ship. And that means capitalizing on its potential for single-burst alpha strike damage.

My X out DPSs pretty much every ship I have outside of an escort. I also know of a build that fully capitalizes on the X's Alpha Strike ability, but frankly, I can't afford it. Unless you'd be willing to give me about 5000 Zen and about 500 mil EC...

To be honest I love this ship because a) to slower turn rate works better for me, b) I can mount daul cannons, c) It is really cool to look the coolest at earth space dock, and d) it's shear size is what amazes me (1/2 a mile). I have to admit I personally am a treky, but the fact that I am gives me an advantage to the game. This ship took me 2 days to figure out but finally I have completely switched from a assault to a dreadnought and i am an enginere and the brings me the tactical side but also allows me to bring my engineering side to the table in harmony and it works amazing, better than any ship I have used so far and I am surprised by how much better it is than I thought. One reason I like it is it is not the same as a average cruiser. I thought it would be like my assult but is was completely different and had to readjust myself to this ship but now it is so much better than i thought and I have to admit but the phaser spinal lance has saved my life once of twice and I have only had it for 3 days and it only works when the shields of the other sip are down and you have one or more Mk xi uncommon phaser relay. All in all this ship is the best cruiser I have used so far.

I have flown both a Engineering Vesta and a Galaxy X with my Engineer.

The Vesta is superior in every single way. I could also do better in an Odyssey or a Regent as well. However, I am no doubt just going to reiterate what other's have said.

I love my Galaxy Dreadnought just as much as I loved using the Venture Class before it. I got my hand's on the Vesta and used it for two days and despite every advantage was bored. I switched back over to my slower turning; much slower turning, Galaxy X and had a blast with it ever since all over again. Maybe it's because it keeps me on my toes or that it requires twice as much work to do just as much damage but I don't care.

Now some people will argue that my build isn't the best and I'll agree. I don't have any fleet item's as of yet and I can't afford the best console's. I am working on the latter rather than trying to find a fleet. After the B.S. with Guild Wars Guilds I've never held much interest in being part of a group, guild, fleet or etc.

Otherwise I have adapted the build on my Galaxy X as I have used it to make it more efficient for my toon. I'll keep on doing so as I get better equipment, weapons, and etc. Otherwise, I have the most fun with it despite it's turn rate and problems. There are better ships around that can do a Galaxy's job better but I never would enjoy them as much.

Phew. Gravedigging by first time posters... Try to avoid this, guys, if you see my post. This message board isn't like other forums. They kinda frown upon gravedigging regardless of how on-topic the posts are.

And for what it's worth, I'm in full agreement with you guys. I'm just waiting on a fleet version to upgrade mine with.
