I've been away from STO for some time so I'm not exactly up to date on the best current gear. I'm sure I have some grinding ahead of me before I obtain great gear.
I'm also wondering if it's possible to make a build with some variety. I understand that it's much more effective to put a Tac Captain (which I'm currently playing) into an escort with all DHCs, but I find that to get a bit boring.
So is it possible to make a build that can be very effective and also have variety?

Also, keep in mind that there's some things I have slotted that I already know aren't very good. Here are the things I intend to get rid of for something better:
Weapons: Keep same energy type, but get MK XII accx2 versions
Engines, Shields, and Deflector: Swap out for Omega set (I believe those are the ones with the extra turn rate?)
Consoles: Swap out Eng- Field Emitter for the RCS AllRes ones that I have in other slots. Upgrade all Tac consoles to their MK XII or Purple counterparts (If they exist, do they?)
I'd like to be able to at least hold my own in PvP. Anyways, any kind of constructive criticism is welcome.

Omega torps for quick firing action.
Switched to beams for better coverage.
Swap mine for romulan hyper torps, fire 3 high yield torps that seek out your target instead of sitting there.
Field Gens and Neuts for durability.
2 piece borg for hull heals.
Maco for free power and 10% DR.
KCB for 360 degree kinetic damage.
Omnidirectional AP combines with Obelisk core for +10% AP damage, also has 360 degrees.
I swapped the universal to an eng, so you can also have EPtW active alongside your EPtS.
Added Aux2Sif for healing, and RSP for emergency button.
Swapped TSS for HE.
Alternatively, you could use a sci instead of eng to give a second copy of TSS and HE for more team healing. (and reverting to 2x EPtS on your Eng)
