Ok so we have this filter that just gets people in trouble if they actualy cuss. Imagine that.So why have the option to disable it at all??? When u know most people just accept the TOS without actualy reading it so if you realy want to clean up the cussing and stop suspending people for your "speed trap" that is the best idea. so if u cuss than nop one sees it and it cuts down on the reports bigtime and frees you up to do better things than be language police!

Disable the option to disable sensored chat and guess what more happy players and less arguments DUH!
so if u allow someone to uncheck sensored chat than how do u reason to punish them for anything they say seems realy stupid there to me to allow but them punish how fkng stupid is that! speed trap, idiotic, bs is what is say just disable the option to disable the option lol. than bran u can actualy concentrate on banning the tons of cheaters in this game rather than being a speach monitor! imagine that! If u have ***&^%$ in place of all cusses or religious and cuss words, than u are on the right track not to be the babysitter of chat anyomore. Some people are just in the mind frame they can say in zone chat what they say on TS3 or vent and get suspended for thinking its ok to cuss because they have disabled the profanity filter or can. RID THAT OPTION ASAP IN ALL CRYPTIC GAMES and u win!, best option for cryptic. Have it on at all times without the option to turn it off.

TO ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR MAY 2014 BRING THE CHANGES NEEDED TO THE CHAT PATROL BEING ELIMINATED DUE TO NOT NEEDED NO MORE.

Not the brightest stars in the sky eh? ;)

He wants to swear and thinks its ok because the game has a profanity filter so everybodys virgin ears should be save by activating this and those who want to read/type nasty words can do this by not activating this.

Oh, thank you for putting it in a more coherent way. I'm not very fluent in "rage". :D

As for the topic: ... No. :P

I don't believe that the Profanity Filter gets people in trouble if they cuss. I believe it just censors various swear words and other objectionable words. Someone using profanity in a public channel will cause some other people to send a support ticket against them which would get the cussing player in trouble. Certain channels like Fleet Chat have a certain crass dialog going on where profanity is acceptable. AFAIK, Freedom of Speech is allowed as long as it isn't in a place where children can read it.

I tend to agree. Just because it there it should not be a scot free for all out cussing. I think its there for fleet/teamchat or similar places where you know the others and its not a problem for everybody.

The only message I could find was "Merry Christmas".

    So.....

A Merry Christmas and a good 2014 for you too, OP!!

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

The OP and his leader are another good example of why we have a profanity filter.

People like them can't follow the rules that they agreed to in the TOS and furthermore assume the existence of the filter is permission to be offensive in Chat.

What's the point of the profanity filter if not to filter out profanity? Grow a thicker skin, people.

Um, I think somewhere in the rant, he's talking about removing the option to disable the profanity filter, beyond that I am overcome with not caring.

I never got the American obsession with "swear words" to begin with. But that aside, no thank you I'd like to decide wether I want to be censored or not, and being an adult I decide to not having "bad words" filtered out. That does in no way shape or form make it ok to insult other players, however. But if technical gimmicks are the only way to shape your social interaction with other people maybe it'd indeed be best to take the option to disable the thing away from your client ;)

To OP: just disable the swearfilter, and you can swear as much as you want. Only thing that will happen is that people with filters activated will only see incoherent text filled with asterisks, and or just hit the ignore button. Either way, all your swearing will stick to your own screen. Waste of time and energy to swear by text, imo.

Why don't you try the same in voice-chat... ...lets see how quickly you'll become muted out. Lols.

    As for your idea.... nope.

But the profanicy filter has issues.

For example: some of my fleet members have contributed for a certain amount, of which the numbers happen to form a certain word. That is profanicy, so in my Fleet Roster, I sometimes see #@%. Which makes me go facepalm.

Another big issue for me and my Dutch friends. When I want to say: "You can do that" in Dutch, it is possible to translate that to "Je TRIBBLE dat doen." (actual Dutch). Check the second word. That is profanicy according to the game. I understand that that is profanicy in English. But when the rest of the sentence is Dutch? Believe me, its hard having conversations that way.

As for the draconic ingame chat STO has: most of my conversations go over TeamSpeak with my fleet. I'll answer ingame questions of my fleet members and particpiate in discussions, but most of my conversations are on TeamSpeak due to how the chat works.

I was reported for using language in Zone chat and made the same argument to the Support staff. Why would you include a profanity filter then punish people for using profanity?

Yes, it does censor out non English words.

Even hungarian words like "Table" that resemble no English curse word.

    Buggy thing.
