A Krenim Lock Box? At least if all the speculation that the Krenim are the next faction is to be believed. No doubt these ships will come with Temporal Themed Consoles and (likely) Chroniton Weapons too.
That doesn't bother me to be honest. Lockboxes pay for the game so I don't have to.
It doesn't bother me either, I just thought I'd run through with some speculation.
Lock Boxes stopped interesting me when they started to get stupid. Cardassian, Ferengi and Dominion ones I accepted. In addition to the later Tal Shiar ones. Tholian, Temporal, Elachi, Voth and whatever comes next ... not so much.
Then again, I stopped caring for Lock Boxes once I realized that I'd rather play with faction specific ships. I have been lucky enough to have obtained (through a stupid cost) both the Galor Cruiser and the Jem Hadar Escort. I hardly used either of them though, and often found myself going back to my Federation ships. In hindsight, the time, effort and money I put in to acquiring them was a waste. I will not make that mistake again.
Since S9 will surely contain more Borg... ...it'll be a borg lockbox.
Soon 99% will for a forthnight cruise around in cubes outside of ESD.
With playable Borg Cubes STO would "nuke the fridge", i for my part vote no for playable borg ships! (And if cryptic is desperate enough to release lockbox borg ships to generate revenue... i bet the largest one would be sphere-sized)
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
seems more likely than the Krenim being the new faction.
You think? Back several updates ago people were saying the same thing about a Borg Lock Box being more likely than a Voth Lock Box.
...they weren't right then, and they/you aren't likely to be right now. We've as much chance of a Borg Lock Box as we have seeing an Iconian character for Federation players ... okay, maybe the odds aren't quite that excessive, but a Borg Lock Box isn't going to happen. People have been asking / speculating on that ever since the Cardassian Lock Box came out. 7 or 8 Boxes on, and we've not seen one yet.

Predictability at it's finest. :P
And where is your source that would give you such a hypothesis?
Lockbox race/alliance picks tend to have canon ships from the show or at least ships that were already in the game in the first place (looking at you, elachi).
So I am wondering how you drew the conclusion you have.

There is mention within that regarding Cryptic Polls (that's where we also got the Voth from). If I remember correctly, the Krenim won another, or came second in the single poll. We know the game is headed out to the Delta Quadrant now (stated in a Dev Update).
We already had a Krenim lockbox like, two boxes ago. Unfortunately the first player to win the big prize ship changed the timeline and erased them, and we ended up with Tal Shiar ones instead. Most people don't seem to remember this.

I have no doubt the Krennim will find their way into this game, and we will get a kennim lockbox at some point.
but the next one? i doubt it. Season 9 wont even be here by the time the next one comes if they follow the usual pattern of release and even if season 9 is the delta quadrant in some way its no guarantee that cryptic will use them first, if it does not fit their story.
At least if all the speculation that the Krenim are the next faction is to be believed.
I assume you mean enemy faction? If the Krenim are playable before the Cardassians, there's something gone terribly wrong.
As to the next Lockbox - I think it's likely. The Voth LB will be ending relatively soon, so they'll then either release a new one or try flogging the old ones again and then release a new one. If you consider that for LoR, the Tal Shiar Box and then the Elachi Box corresponded to the enemy factions featured. Since the Voth are the only bad guys featured in S8, it stands to reason they're going to either flog this one out until S9 or they'll have something new up their sleeves between now and then.
At the moment, given the hints about the Delta Quadrant as the setting for more content, either the Krenim or Hirogen seems the most likely - or maybe even Iconians? That's also assuming that we're keeping the Breen constrained to the Winter Event and not putting their stuff into LBs (Sarr Theln Science/Carrier for WW2014!).
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

Also, if there are plans to make the Krenim into a playable faction (which I doubt), it's a sure bet there won't be a Krenim lockbox (the Cardassian - and Dominon, for that matter - lockboxes have been cited, if I recall correctly, by Cryptic themselves as an issue for making a Cardassian or Dominion playable faction, and I know that, before LoR was announced, one reason they mentioned for not making a Romulan lockbox was wanting to keep the ships in reserve in case/when they made a Romulan faction).
I somehow doubt it's the Krenim who fight the Voth currently.
It's someone else, perhaps the Borg. Maybe something will come out of that (hopefully not...).
According to the Cryptic MO, yes, we will have a period where they'll push all the different LB's for a while, before they present a new one. My bet is still the Borg. They will be resuscitated. Just you wait and see, and the fancy lockboxship flooding the exchange will be the sphere. Price will prolly be around 80.000, since nobody will care using it. (Comparable to the mirrorships)
Krenim? The species that was only evil because one crazy scientist changed timelines? The same story that ended with a much nicer species and a not-crazy scientist?

Yes, but at the same time, Red Forman didn't die in the end. His timeline was just reset so that he was still with his wife. Of course, the timeline reset also means that Voyager had no record of Annorax or any inkling that the Krenim had the ability to manipulate time. So the plot of any new content can't hinge on "We need to fix the time line. I know, we'll ask our old friends the Krenim for help!"
I wouldn't mind it. I would stock up on them, so I can open later. That is what I did with the Dominion lock box. Soon as I get done buying ships on my list. I will start opening them up. That way I have a good chance for a JH ship. Either from the box or get enough lobi to buy one.

Did I miss something recently? Why are people suddenly convinced Krenim will be the next thing.
Don't get me wrong, if I could pick the next lockbox, the Krenim would probably be 1 on my list, but I just don't understand why people are thinking this will be next.
EDIT: nevermind, missed something earlier in this thread.
Am I the only one who finds the Krenim designs aside from the weapons ship incredibly ugly? They look like freighters for hauling junk, and the space station module aesthetics of the things don't appeal to me, I like my ship designs fluid which they are definitely not.

Could we get a second console that erases silly choices that Cryptic have made?
...then again, the Krenim would be included in that, so I'd end up in a paradox. Would I be able to use that weapon to erase that weapon?

Makes a worthwhile hypothesis to me.
Yeh. That'd be fun, if the said player was 'erased' into/onto another server instance. Lolz.
