Ok, well, I am still top level (No demotions
) but now I am looking at advanced ships to buy off the exchange, and want to know the best ways to get EC in this game. Not just the best free way, but also the most cost effective paid ones as well
Thank you in advance
Comments
-farm loot in pve events and foundry and sell the valuable stuff on exchange and the junk to a vendor
-win 1st place in the Kerrat Warzone and Starbase 24 fleet actions and sell the loot
-play the exchange, buy and sell for profit, risky but can pay off
-use dilithium to get zen then use zen to get keys or fleet ship modules.
Paid ways
- use zen to get lockbox keys or Fleet ship modules and sell on exchange.
-open the lockboxes yourself and sell the prizes on exchange.
Well, there is an excuse to make a KDF char
Do you lose the extra EC or can you transfer it from character to account does anyone know?
You lose it, though that cap can be lifted with a purchase (My first non lockbox purchase)
The best ways to get unbound purples would be to do the Support assignments in the various exploration clusters, and use the white Refugee doffs you get on the various Asylum on ... assignments and get a crit. You can also try and get purple doffs from the officer exchange program assignments found in the Cardassian sector blocks. All of the above requires completing the required assignment chains, and is well worth the effort even aside from selling doffs.
You can also upgrade 5 blues into a random purple, but as this costs 5K dilithium, I'd advise against that because of the costs. You can also get purples directly from the fleet stores if your fleet has the required tier, but this also requires resources.

If you sub for just one month, you get that Energy Credit increase for life, and 500 Zen to spend. Since the EC bump cost 1000 Zen anyway, it means that you get all that $15 back as if you'd only bought Zen, and are Gold for a month too (I started new toons and got them through leveling up so as to earn Respec credits each promotion).
EDIT: You also unlock the Account Bank, get an additional Character Slot, an additional Boff Slot (for toons leveled during Gold) an increased Inventory, Bank, Foundry creator access, in-game Zone chat at low level, full Mail access, and turn off in-game ads.
Because of all that, Gold gives immediate benefits, that last even when your sub ends. And because of that, this is the only MMO I ever subbed to. Also because they provide ways in-game to buy everything, I remained subbed for a few months. Had to quit last Spring because my free time went away.
Do you keep that for life? I asked in the Winter Wonderland zone a few days back, and got a lot of conflicting answers - Some said you do, others said its one of the few things you don't keep when the subscription runs out.
When you transition from 'Gold' to 'Silver' status, you transition to the 'Silver' account EC cap limits. If you purchase the EC cap increase from the Z-Store, you keep that for life...
The other thing you lose is a 'empty' character slot. If all of your character slots are filled, then this is not a issue, but you still owe Cryptic a 'empty' character slot, and the moment you gain one, (from character deletion, Z-Store purchase or game expansion)...
So anything you have above and beyond 10mill when you return to silver is lost to the void of space? Harsh, but fair enough.
I am plotting to go gold soon for at least a month (I almost picked up a lifetime account when it was on offer, but I'm unsure as to the longevity of my interest in the game (I only just started playing again a few weeks back. Before that, I played shortly after to went free-to-play for only a handful of weeks before I lost interest)), but I want to start (and at least partially level) a Romulan captain first, just for the full set.
I'm going to be holding out on buying well... Anything from the store until the anniversary, as I'm a tight-fisted git who wants to take advantage of any sales.
Well:
That is actually a very complete answer. All of that stuff remains after unsubbing. And those Boff slots you also get for characters already at max level.
I'm not sure what happens with any EC above 10M you have on your chars when the cap is lowered, but I do know that as of the moment your subscription ends, any EC added (eg: exhange sales) that exceeds the cap will be lost to the void.
I had a sub from before the game went F2P. Once the game went F2P I dropped my sub a little while after that. My EC cap went down to 10 mil. I didn't get the 1 bil cap back until I got my LTS.

So take advantage of other peoples generosity/ignorance? ... You play as a Ferengi don't you?
Humans are just Ferengi 300 years ahead of their time. :P
Uh, no. I specifically tested this by letting my sub lapse for a day after that first month, and the EC limit remained. After two more months, I dropped sub again, and have been Silver since. I have been able to earn up to 86 million EC with that character, as well as the second toon I created while Silver--so once you pay for Gold, you get (and keep) the EC limit cap raise. I never purchased it.
I also never purchased the extra slot. And yet, even now while Silver, I have three toons and space to make one more. So that stays too.
On my second toon, who is only Level 33, I have 60 Inventory slots. She was Gold for one rank up, and hence has one Respec token. But she was able to earn and spend more than 10mil EC as well.
My primary toon has bought one Inventory Increase, and has 84 (72 Gold max + 12 purchased).
I also never purchased the Account Bank--and yet, I still have it.
Unless they drastically changed things after last Christmastime, it's clear that several benefits remain even when going back to Silver. Toon slots, Inventory size, Account Bank, EC Cap raise, and (I think) BOFF slots--as, even after lapsing, I still have one left empty.
EDIT: Okay, I've read several other accounts, all of which say the EC cap goes away and you lose all your money. But I really don't remember buying it. Possibly, my memory sucks or I had a glitch. However, I am certain I have never purchases additional Toon slots, Boff slots, or Inventory slots (other than that one on my main) or the Account Bank.
You don't lose all your money. You just don't gain any from subsequent sales until your EC drops below 10M.

Ohhh little jealous are we..... No I was about to use them when the Suliban Ship arrived. And when I checked the market the price was what it was.
And whatever if you use the peoples generosity or not, that is the only way to make money.
They all have a choice, to buy or not to buy. To check if they are willing to pay the price for what someone is offering to sell. And if they are dumb enough to buy without making the effort to check things up. It's their problem
