So I was wondering do certain species make better Bridge Officers than others? For example my tactical/security Bridge Officer is a Ferengi Lt. Cmdr. He has the most advanced shields and armor available to me at the level I'm playing. It never fails when we are in a fire fight that he is the first away mission officer to always get knocked out.
So do Ferengi's make bad security/tactical officers?
Different boffs will have different traits that make them suited to different things.
However I would first check that he doesn't have the boff power "draw fire". If he does have it every enemy will attack him once he activates it. It may be the cause.
Well I can't forget a face but I won't remember y'all.

Thanks for the tip! I do believe he has the "draw fire" ability so I'll take that off to see if that helps.
race is huge. Its not too hard to find good ground combat racial traits, but good space traits are rare, and the enhanced versions are harder still. Racial traits are the only big difference, but blue and purple quality guys can have higher tiers of skills or rare skills and their racials can be superior quality.
As for ground combat ---
1) someone is going to be shot up. Usually, it is whoever the enemy (NPC) group sees first. Usually, unless you have stealth, that is *you*.
2) Some things draw aggro. If your sci officer is healing the team, he will become the target of the enemy. If the tac team guy is drawing aggro, he goes down. Shooting an enemy tends to draw it to the attacker. Devices for some reason are HATED by NPC enemy so if your guys can make shield, medical, turrets, and similar devices, it will distract the enemy and draw fire from your team.
3) The tier 4 and higher NPC enemy hit very, very hard --- most can 2 shot you (or your goons), first shot wipes out your shield, second kills.
So my advice is to lose the draw fire, as you said, and to make more ground devices to distract the enemy. What the device does is often less important than it just being there as a distraction, from what I have seen, though the devices do awesome things.
Or you forget the min maxing and play for fun. Yes i have a look at traits of course but especially for ground missions i pick races that look cool in my opinion.
