Hi everyone, I would like to put forth my proposal for how the FED-KDF War should come to a close and in doing so give a chance for two of the least developed, if popular, races in the series to have a day in the limelight.
I know at best this wouldn?t happen until at least 2015 with the next year at least planned out already. But I think it?s a good start for ending this unpopular war.
The first thing would be the introduction of two new sector blocks: One that is primarily Federation and one that is primarily KDF, the Delta Lyran and Beta Lyran Sector blocks. If you?re a fan of the Animated Series, you probably recognize those names and know what races will be taking center stage in this story arc: The Caitians and the Ferasans.
Now before someone groans ?No furries in my STO!? I want to say they?re probably not the only players and this would build on an established story arc started in STO?s Duty Officer System.
- The Sectors the Caitians and Ferasans are from are in 2409 right smack between SEVERAL contested areas of space. To the ?north? of Delta Lyra would be Alpha Trianguli and Cardassian Space, to the ?west? would be Tholia and their assembly. Beta Lyra would be just south of Eta Eridani and the Neutral and thus the center of the FED-KDF War. And to the south of BOTH sector blocks would be Gamma Orionis: Fed/Gorn Space now overrun with Borg.
- These sectors are heavily poltically active with their own shooting wars and political craziness to begin with. Pacifica is near Delta Lyra, Antica and Seley are in this area and thus bitter enemies. In addition the former Klingon world of Krios is here as well. And the political neutral ground of Parliament is here, but I?ll come back to that in a second.
- Both sectors offer a chance for more Omega Force and Nukara Reptuation missions. Omega Force dailies to keep the Borg out of these sectors by preventing them from spilling in from G.O. would offer a new way to earn OMs for players still learning to STF. Additionally, we could have a ?Caitian Invasion? PVE mission where Tholians make a raid on Cait (the two systems are literally within spitting distance on the maps)
- These sectors offer chances for more open PVP maps akin to Kerrat. A Ferasan minefield for instance where FED players have to try to rescue disabled Caitian ships while dodging KDF strike forces. Also a Caitian Research Station Raid zone where KDF players have to steal from a Caitian starbase while avoiding Federation defenders.
- The Ferasans have a chance to distance themselves from their Kzinti source material. Now, I know that?s controversial as the Kzinti are a beloved race. Unfortunately, they are also a race with their own franchise now disconnected from Trek and their backstory has become incompatible with Trek?s (ie. the Slaver Weapon implied Earth fought a pre-warp war with the Kzinti while First contact establishes that Earth?s first contact with Aliens was the same day they invented Warp Drive). This is a good thing, though. The Ferasans have already made some steps towards being different: they have their own starships, their females are intelligent. There is nothing to stop them from developing into a new and improved race.
- The Caitians are among the races with limited development. While Tellarites and Rigelians fall here too, neither were given much screentime either. The Caitians did have a bridge officer on Kirk?s Enterprise in the form of Lt. M?ress and even made a cameo appearance in Star Trek IV. As a result we have a popular yet mysterious race that we know little about despite them being long term Federation Members.
Now let?s actually talk story: while the Fed-KDF war is settling down, there was 2 assignment chains (one for each faction) where the Caitians and the Ferasans after a long cold war finally took their first shots at each other as they were studying their own history. The Caitian Diaspora and The Unforgiven of Ferasa arcs ended with a both sides taking hostages and then attacking each other?s outposts with the consent of Starfleet and KDF Commands. WOOPS. While the Caitians would argue they were merely rescuing their own people, the Ferasans would gladly take the opportunity to attack the Caitians because they are an affront to their own eugenics program and ?traitors of Ferasa.? Essentially both sides have started a shooting war that normally would fall under the Prime Directive but with the circumstances involved and the poltical and strategic sensitivity of the area, the Federation and Klingon Empire would be sucked in to help resolve it. So begins the new Story Arc:
Story Arc: The Lions of Lyra
Description: The Caitians and Ferasans share a history of blood and violence but when two separate research projects go horribly wrong, the Federation and Klingon Empire become sucked into a poltical nightmare. Could the felinoids of the Lyran systems be the first step towards peace or an even bloodier war?
- Mission 1 (FED): Saving the Cat?s Cradle (Lv 50)
- A joint Ferasan-KDF task force have broken the border and have assaulted Cait. Join Battle Group Omega in defending the Caitian homeworld.
- Mission 1 (KDF): Striking the Traitors of Ferasa (lv 50)
- A joint Ferasan-KDF task force have decided to assault the homeworld of the Caitians. Join the fight to defend our honorable allies.
--- NOTE: Both of the prior missions could be potentially PVP-based story missions.
- Mission 2 (both): Standoff at Seley (Lv 50)
- A Caitian transport is attacked by Ferasans over a contested world on the Federation-Klingon Border
- Mission 3 (both): Catastrophe at Krios (Lv 50)
- A Ferasan diplomatic envoy sent to Krios to encourage their return to the Empire falls under attack by a Caitian Defense Force fleet.
- Mission 4 (both): Patronization at Pacifica
- The Government of Pacifica has called for a temporary ceasefire before the battles between Cait and Ferasa spill into their territory, but a dark force seems to be provoking both sides.
- Mission 5 (both): The Enemy of my Enemy
- Peace talks on Parliament come to a halt when an attack from a familiar alien ship throws both sides into disarray. Will both sides put aside their differences against the Demons of Air and Darkness?
- Mission 6 (epilogue): Peaceless Treaty
- The war between Cait and Ferasa and the war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire have come to an end, but the arrival of the Iconians overshadows the new found peace.
Other features:
2 New Social Zones: Cait and Ferasa
-
Cait: A planet in the Delta Lyra system, a long standing Federation member dedicated to research and communications technology.
Special Features: A special ?Caitian Products? vendor who sells Caitian themed equipment, outfits and pets as well as previous versions of the Nanopulse Weaponry.
In addition: Cait would have daily ?communications research? mission that would reward 1480 Dilthium and 50 Fleet Marks upon success (this would be a hard mission requiring high logical reasoning skills and on a time limit).
-
Ferasa: A planet in Delta Lyra System and new member of the Klingon Empire, the Ferasans are fierce warriors who value strength at any cost.
Special Features: Unique ?Ferasan Products? vendor who sells Ferasan themed equipment, outfits and pets as well as previous versions of the Nanopulse Weaponry
In addition: Ferasa would have daily ?melee tournament? mission that would reward 1480 Dilthium and 50 Fleet Marks upon success (this would be a hard mission with difficult opponents).

For a number of reasons, one of which is one he expressed. It is time that OTHER races like Caitians and Ferasans got to be in the spotlight. I mean Humans and the Klingons have had the spotlight for how long? Let the Caitians and Ferasans have a chance, they are the least acknowledged race in the franchise if im not mistaken if not well they still dont have enough screen time or in game importance. So please Cryptic/PWE give these two races a chance in the limelight as Sirboulevard has put it.
Sure, we don't know much about the Vorn or the Iconians, but all that is kinda meh to me. wouldn't worry about it at all if it wasn't for rep. Furrballs would be interesting tho.
dont agree with the half non-bold and bold text on a black background without spacing no less.
but to the point. some of it dont make sense, taskforce omega is built to defend against the borg and other outside threats to the empire and feds and now the rr, there has to be trust there. why would the kdf and feds risk spilling themselves within the taskgroup just to get involved in an internal political matter between the ferasans and caitians? if the caitians have a bad blood history with the ferasans, the federation could very well expel the caitians from the federation as defending them would mean breaking a truce and the prime directive by getting involved in an internal conflict which is foreign to starfleet because of the ferasans.
it would also be a political nightmare for the high council as well because if they stab the feds in the back with such a highly useful secret alliance they would be shown as dishonorable and the klingons are obsessive about protecting the quadrant and being called heroes. their honor demends that they distance themselves from the ferasans, to the klingons what would it matter if the ferasan race was wiped out, they can find other powerful allies.
the romulans would be left holding this dead weight bag and getting dragged into a conflict which is not their concern and being played as a pawn stepping on its own feet between the feds and kdf. it would be likely they would withdraw from the taskforce to maintain their friendly relations without destroying it in the process so they dont get hit.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I WOULD like to see Cait and Ferasa become actual planets and social zones we could visit, my space kitties could finally go home
I'm meh on PvP, there needs to be a major revamp in it, new maps won't do much for me.
New STFs? for Fleet Marks? set during the Fed-KDF War? yes please ^^ Fleet Marks are so essential for my fleet with us being so small, and new ways of earning it would be welcome
New Borg STFs would be nice to have as well, the current ones are kind of stale....just don't make them horribly broken like Hive >.>
Actually the Prime Directive does not apply in this situation. These duty officer chains already have Starfleet and Klingon Defense Force involved. This story would be a follow up.
Second off, Task Force Omega's presence has everything to do with location: Cait and Ferasa are on the border of Gamma Orionis. Check Star Trek Star Charts. The planets are right there. There's no reason to assume there wouldn't be a joint fleet there to keep the Borg out (and the fact the KDF and Starfleet put aside the war for facing down the Borg anyways, says everything). The presence I proposed is for more Borg Task Force Dailies. The task force has no need to make an appearance except in the first mission, which is an Fed Anti-Borg Task Force defending Cait that's merely caught up in the battle. Beyond that, they make no other appearance in the story.

i know of startrek galaxy maps, and they conflict. which one are you going on about?

This one specifcally. In the upper right corner you can see Cait and Pacifica are close to Cestus III and the Mutara nebula as well as Tholia.
TRIBBLE Hydra! Hail Janeway!
"Close" is a relative term.
As far as I see it, you can fit the entire Romulan Star Empire between some of the worlds you mentioned.
Then compare this map to the Sector Blocks in game. Close is relative, indeed. And I was talking about 2 Sector Blocks of content anyways. Cait and Alpha Lyra on the Left and Ferasa and Delta Lyra on the right. Giving us a KDF and Federation sector block each. Condensing and slight relocations are nothing new to this game. Iconia by all rights should be in Tau Dewa, but because that sector block wasnt at launch and the Iconians were important to the story it was moved to Iota Pavonis. Adding these blocks would allow us to have a more complete galaxy and even fix some screwy spatial orientation (i've never liked that Eta Eridani connects to Orellius and yet Orellius is supposed to be to the "north" of Beta Ursae).
TRIBBLE Hydra! Hail Janeway!
So maybe give the Romulan flagship lady some story as the Romulan that ended the war... to add a little drama... we'll sacrifice Tovan Khev.

And it would provide more ideas for Tholian STF's and events for Nukara Marks as well.
Well, I can see that working now.
Invading the Tholian homeworld?
Sounds fun, but I don't like it anyhow.
We would need to fight a massive war to mount an invasion of the very center of the Tholian Assembly.
And there isn't much to win.
Actually, there are no hints whatsoever that I encountered, that the Tholians are a Servitor race of the Iconians. They seem to act on their own. Maybe they are knowing more then the allies know about the Iconian threat, and that's why they are aggressively searching for new technology (mirror universe, Iconian gateways etc.) to wield against the Demons of Air and Darkness when they finally make their return.
Being Tholians, they don't trust the lowly humanoids to do any good and might consider them only standing in their way.
ive given myself a few days to follow up on this point. on ds9 a bajoran group called the circle got control of the government which was an internal matter which by itself the federation could not get involved in, however when an external factor with the support of cardassian interests were exposed the prime directive meant ds9 had to be evacuated and any further federation interests had to be stopped out there. it was only because of some disobedient officers that the circle was broken at all and the cardassians did not get bajor and the station back.
the caitians have bad blood with the ferasans, they make a choice to attack as each government controls itself as long as the federation council is informed. but if the caitians intended on bringing this old conflict to the surface starfleet would never allow itself to get involved because the federation council would not and could not authorize a war as the the conflict is internal to the caitians, but because the ferasans are involved then it becomes an external matter outside federation control and probably bring the klingon might down on them. the federation council wouldnt have a choice but to stay out of it because it would violate the prime directive.

You're missing the part where in the Doff Chain that prequels to this: You a STARFLEET OR KDF OFFICER HAD YOUR OFFICERS LEAD THE ATTACK ON THE FERASAN HOLDING FACILITY OR CAITIAN SCIENCE STATION. It cannot be considered an "internal affair" when Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force have already gotten involved. This story arc is meant to be a sequel arc to that doff chain. Giving our command decisions to the Duty Officer system a real affect on the rest of the game.
Please read the mission descriptors here and here.
