Advice to Cryptic: disable disco ball in Dyson Sphere

newromulan1newromulan1 Member Posts: 2,229
The New areas are so different and so confusing if is just too much to take in when you go to the command centre and the ground launching center. It is the most confusing place I have ever been in this game and after several thousand hours I can tell you those balls are going to be even more of a hassle for players trying to find their way around. You don't want that much sensory overload in this new area.

Those things need to be disabled, at least for the first month or so.

I think they should all just be collected and burned. I don't know what dev thought it would be a good idea to make these things, and what dev then decided to let them off of Risa.

But then I see the fire extinguisher, the various party poppers, and the ball, and I've reached my own conclusions.

The disco ball is much much worse than the party poppers as it takes over 50x the total visual area - there were 2 running in the ground combat command center when I first got to that place and I could not find where I needed to go to move on. This was with less than 20 players in there- can you imagine launch day?? These things will create chaos in these new buildings. It could really cause some players to have a bad first experience as they become lost in all the visual static.

So you were unable to achieve a total ban on disco and are now trying to get minor bans enacted? Disco balls are the most fun item in the game and tons of players would be sad if they were rendered unusable.

Thats your opinion, but mine is that tons of players will be glad if they were banned, at least from trible.
I do agree with the OP, they really should ban those. The moment trible went open for silvers the degenerates start to spam those in the ground dyson sphere areas, on purpose to make other players crash due to low FPS known issues that are there.

You must have me confused with someone else - I have never tried to get them banned. That said temporarily blocking them in the Dyson Sphere is the wisest course of action - it will NOT be fun for thousands of confused players when they arrive in these command centers and have no idea where to go but are further confused by the light show. This will not give players New to the are a good first impression. I was lost and overwhelmed in the area without those things-they just made it much worse!

I don't like being forced to dance. I think there should be a setting in the Options that lets a player opt out of the dancing (player-controlled social items) automatically.

It's good for people to be able to have fun and be wacky, but players who want to be serious also should have the ability to be serious. Things like the cannon screen shake and the dancing should be opt out. I don't think they need to be disabled completely or restricted to one location.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

I have to agree. These Disco Balls have become a nuisance in STO and the morons in the game are deliberately casting them everywhere in the game whenever female players and/or characters are present in an area because they want to force "sexy dancing" to legitimize their horny and lustful behavior.

If STO has turned into an online TRIBBLE service to satisfy the lustful teenagers, then they should be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency. These Disco Balls should only be used either in Club 47 or on RISA or anywhere there is a Dance Club, depending on your faction.

I can tell you, from personal experience, that the only morons tossing those disco balls are the guys who want to see the women dance sexy. You don't see guys trying to force other guys to dance, they're always pulling these disco balls when women are in the room.

Really? Because I use them quite a bit and also happen to be TRIBBLE, so where does that fit into your logic? (or lack there of)
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

Being honest, I rarely see them anymore. Maybe once or twice a week. And I tend to play almost every day.

    Oh dear.

Captain,we have a disco ball over reaction! A meltdown is underway, we should evacuate!

    ---

Clearly this is another example of Federation discrimination. Trying to deny or restrict dancing and partying to others is an affront to those who enjoy such things. If you ever left Earth Space Dock, you might come to realize that not all social zones are created equal. I don't recall nominating you as the morality police. In most jurisdictions dancing is not a crime.

    ---

As to the performance issue, I don't have the most amazing desktop, and run win xp still. I play the game on a 40" LCD at 1920x1080 and the disco balls have no real impact on the game's performance that I have experienced.

if you don't like them, then just move away. They have a limited area of effect. Even if you are within the area of effect they DO NOT interfere with you performing any game action or interaction.

I think the disco balls are fine, people just over react to the smallest things.

However, anytime someone pops one of these, they should be loaded into a separate instance, that's been set aside for this stuff.

I have to AGREE. There is a huge difference between 'having fun' and taking over a strangers toon. Forced activity intitiated by another player should not be allowed anywhere in game.

As for the other "fun" junk, and in a game like STO thats all this stuff is but junk, let those who enjoy it use it WITH CONSIDERATION to other players. Now, if those who enjoy using them cannot, or rather will not, show due consideration, then by all means limit their use to specific locations.

    Simple fix:

Shorten the 5 minute cooldown on the /movementreset command to 5 seconds and make it a hotlink in the emote menu.

But seeing that this is Cryptic we're talking about, even the most simple fix will never happen.

I'm sorry, but are you saying disco balls are breaking your immersion when you are killing T rex with lazerz on their heads, that spawn colored balls buffing you when you walk into them ?

    Oh sure....
